He left when the high rate tax was 90% it came down to 75% in 1971.

He has been back in the U.K. (Epping) for over 25 years, I expect he has paid more tax than the average man in the street along with providing employment to many and pleasure through his music to thousands.

That was then and this is now. He wasn’t the only one. All part of the rock n roll lifestyle and I was just as scathing as millions of others at the time.

I have huge respect for the super wealthy who quietly donate to help others without any fanfare or praise but the celebrity world is different these days. Everything has to be ‘out there.’

Rod got his knighthood for services to music and charity. He does an awful lot for charity. Recently he hired three trucks and filled them with supplies for Ukraine. He also found a house in Bracknell for a Ukrainian family. He is paying the bills until they can pay their own way.
He said he usually keeps his charity work private but publicised this hoping others will follow.
I'm not a particular fan but my sisters have always loved him and have been to all his shows here in Birmingham except for his last one which was too expensive.

He seems like a decent, kind hearted, good natured man who doesn't take himself too seriously. His wife too is doing her bit by volunteering. How good of him to pay for scans, but I would have to ask why he wants the Labour Party to run the NHS. An article about the mess the NHS shambles in Wales, run by Labour, said that people are crossing the border to England for healthcare.

He is also friends with the mothers of his children.
Here they all are at his daughter’s 40th birthday in 2019.

Have just posted on another thread, if Yvette Cooper was leader I would seriously consider lending the Labour Party my vote. I have been impressed with her recently.

FannyCornforth I have never wholly trusted the press, and I can't be alone in that feeling, but this unhappy situation has been mentioned many times. Quite why Labour run the NHS in Wales I am not sure - could 'look it up' I suppose, but whatever the reason it doesn't bode well for England.

I remember he moved back to the UK at that time because he said he wanted a quality British education for his son/s. I taught at the prep school group they went to.

I believe he sold the house in Epping and has lived in a house near Sheering for six years. I've been going to the same hairdresser for that time and I remember she told me when he became a neighbour. She got to know Penny and their youngest son because she has a son of the same age and they belong to same football club and have other interests/clubs in common. Rod even paid for them all to go on a holiday together (I've seen the photos).

I'm not surprised that Rod voted Tory. He's the epitome of a person from an ordinary family who made good through his own efforts - isn't that what Tory aspiration is supposed to be all about? It says something about the current bunch, if somebody like him has had enough.
