I do read the politics threads, watch Prime Minister's and First Priminister's question time, I prefer not to post on those threads
Very wise Marydoll 🙂
What do politics have to do with me????

Another good ploy is to post, but not read!😃
If that is your opinion then maybe you should stick to Chat etc.
Is this why so many avoid the N&P threads perhaps? Not quite 'get back to your knitting' but not exactly encouraging either

The way you have all continued this thread me included and the things that have been said proves why a lot don't post on it. The answers are all there in the posts and they are not going to encourage the non-joiners to join in.
Not for the faint-hearted the N&P threads, you have got to have a first in P.P.E or P.P.P. Oxbridge. Durham or Edinborough might just get your ideas listened to.
I think we need Volver back to put us all in our spots.
Nonsense. I haven’t got a first n anything and still feel perfectly entitled to post on N and P. I’ve learnt a lot from the threads too.
Obviously not nonsense as shown by most of the posts on this thread.
Everyone feels entitled to comment but are put off by a few know it alls.
But I am put off by 'some people' conversations, that's kind of the nature of an open forum there will be things you dont like.

I’d love to name names but there’s no point as we all know who we’re talking about.
Plus, they’d go running to miss proclaiming they’d been bullied.
😁
That’s why the ‘some posters’ has to be used.

I get that - I have long felt that the rules of GN should be more explicit, as I never know whether naming names is permissible or not, or if it's ok in some circumstances and not others. If it's not then it might be risky to do it, particularly if the poster is touchy or 'trigger happy' on the report button.
But the fact remains that there will be people reading this and worrying if you are all talking about them, and others reading it who will assume you mean someone else when in fact they were the targets. It's quite unpleasant, really.

It really is a form of bullying isn’t it. But bullying with a hidden face.
Ok then, as the discussion has moved to the some posters issue, I will improve on my earlier comment here about a couple of posters who, during a discussion, would explain in simple terms. I hope it is OK to mention them in a good way by name as an illustration. In my experience they were Dickens, Iam64, Dinahmo, and also MaizieD who took time to explain to me how money was "found" from the coffers, (though I still find that concept weird!) I have no idea about the political leanings of these posters, just that they were helpful and were neither rude nor condescending at the time.
That is very kind of you, Joseanne Thank you.
But I must hold my hands up and admit that I can be more abrasive than I should be at times. 🙁
But when I first started posting, about 8 years ago, I was 😱 by some of the posters I encountered... it doesn't change much..

I'm still laughing about the Premium bond thread 😁

I reply to rude challenges if the poster's message denotes something of interest or if it's funny haha. If it's empty rudeness like ad hominem I scroll on to a more interesting post.

That video, though funny, says as clearly as daylight why people don't go on N&P threads on GN: the scathing condescension they expect – having witnessed it from afar – to be met with should they dare to disagree with the usual N&P enthusiasts.
I suggest that many people's avoidance of GN N&P threads is for that reason and in no way an indication of their lack of interest in political matters.
Some will also stay away out of despair at the quality of many of our current politicians (of all stripes).
This!
Thanks Baggs
Years ago when I started engaging in internet discussions I used to be upset by rude replies to my posts . I quite like some rude replies if the poster has a general axe to grind and I can refute his claims. I did that today ( not on Gransnet )and am really pleased I was forced to look up stuff on Google, which I was too vague about.

Bullying
The very worst kind, as said, gutless and cowardly.
