Looking at TV coverage ...I'm feeling anxious that the more we send/spend on helping Ukraine, we're cooperating am not saying we shouldn't but just thinking how others feel about how far we go..we're already in crisis with NHS and need of financial assistance for cost of living assistance and this is too much for people's mental health sad

I like to think that the powers in China are more aware of the world and the consequences of an all out war than President Putin.

I saw an interview over the weekend (sorry cannot remember the man’s name) he was extremely knowledgeable about Russia and the Putin regime.

He summed up the situation as Putin and his acolytes have been stealing from mother Russias coffers for at least twenty years, hence the proliferation of oligarchs scattered around the globe

. There is little money left and the war was/is intended to get the people behind Putin and his Generals against the evils of the Western World, as it’s the West’s fault Russia is suffering

Let’s hope that the Chinese & American presence in the region is a signal that there is a lot going on behind the scenes, and it’s for the good.

Fortunately Taiwan is the worlds biggest producer of micro chips.

Not only is it the largest produced of microchips, it produces ALL of the latest high end computer chips.

BTW As Biden is in Kiev, China’s top diplomat is in Moscow with Putin, maybe he is telling Putin to back off in Ukraine.

Or maybe he isn’t

Nuclear weapons have always been in the hands of politicians and the last time anyone used one was 1945.

I think that should read "the only time one was used"

Used unnecessarily and mindlessly to unleash agonising death and destruction on innocent men women and children by the "good guys."

Nuclear weapons have always been in the hands of politicians and the last time anyone used one was 1945.

Since then there has been massive proliferation, and smaller 'tactical' weapons are being carried around ships, submarines and air weapons all the time all over the place.

And MAD has become 'obsolete'. Just as predicted by CND even since then Monica.

So long as China doesn’t decide to annex it !

Normandygirl It all depends on what 'understanding' means.

China is dangerous, they are much smarter than Russia, they have the governments of many developing countries by the throat. In addition our western lifestyles is very much indebted to Chinese manufacturing capacity, without their computer chips our industry stops.

China has proved that it can blockade Taiwan any time it chooses, could the U.S. stop that happening?.

I have no idea about what brought about this situation in the first place? Oh please grinI don’t suppose you can help your bigoted anti European/American/NATO point of view as you are so clearly supportive of anything Russia does. Never mind, get on with it. I can’t be bothered any longer.

If you cannot understand that understanding an action or situation does not mean condoning it, then maybe you shouldn't "bother".

We have to support Ukraine. If Putin is allowed to win where will he strike next? He is on a mission. He has to be stopped.

M0nica Mon 20-Feb-23 16:41:42

Whose hands should they be in? The military? I would prefer politicians any day. The military rquirement is to do the job the politicians set them. It is up to the politicians to set the limits on what weapons the military can use.

With nuclear weapons in the hands of politicians there will always be a very real chance of nuclear war. It’s more a case or ‘when’ not ‘if’.

Pravda still remains the official organ of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
Make of that and some posts on this thread what you may.

Russian propaganda infiltrates everywhere, even a forum for Grandparents!

That’s what I’m thinking too wink

Granny Gravy 13 and does he usually do follow up meetings the next day?
Interesting to see what spin Putin puts on it. One year later and many young dead soldiers.

Thousands and thousands of people have died, Russian soldiers and paid militants along with Ukrainian soldiers and civilians fighting to keep their country free of a wannabe President of a new USSR.

I know who I blame …

I don’t understand what the problem is in posting prior warning of Putin’s addresses to the Russians. It should at least alert us to a change of narrative.
We all know everything is propaganda!

The President of Russia addresses the Country each year in a state of the Country speech along with the annual parade of their forces and weaponry (Google is your friend)

I am a bit peeved of the Russia is not the bad guy narrative appearing on GN.

Interesting that there is a tv program on right now about the possibility of a 3rd World War because of China and America. They are concluding that war is very, very close. I wonder how helpful these sort of programs are really. We, the people, don’t have a lot of choice in these big boy games.

“UK media is the most ludicrously biased news I have seen in my lifetime and you are blinded to any facts other than Ukraine being the completely innocent victims of completely inexplicable Russian aggression. The US has quite clearly and deliberately brought about this situation. One only has to look at the military history of the US to see the utter hypocrisy being spouted about Ukraine. “

We are of course getting biased propaganda thats what always happens, if you are incapable of seeing through it more fool you. (Not personal)

Of course Russias actions are “explicable” they wanted an independant Ukraine like Belarus, NATO and the EU are both culpable in encouraging Ukraine to “look west. Since the Cold War the US has been quite content with the status quo in Europe and certainly does not want an escalation in Ukraine if a settlement can be achieved.

The US is not on a war footing currently, it will supply what NATO needs from stocks, and provide a nuclear deterrent, with Taiwan security rumbling in the background it wants Ukraine settled quickly.

Putin is to address the Federal Assembly on Feb 21st and there are unscheduled meetings of the State Duma and Federation Council on February 22nd.
The lower house of the Federal Assembly meets in the morning and the Federal Council at 3 pm.
Reported in Pravda.
