Remember the celebration and congratulations that Johnson glorified in?

Oh I do hope she does resign!!

MawtheMerrier Tue 21-Feb-23 10:20:27

An empty threat? I hope Sunak tells those who got us into this mess in NI in the first place ie Johnson, that he (Truss, Braverman ^et al^) are not the best placed to give him advice!

Whitewavemark2 Tue 21-Feb-23 10:23:08

Yes, Sunak the schoolboy needs to grow up and get tough pdq.

Blossoming Tue 21-Feb-23 10:24:43

Bye Suella, don’t let the door hit you on your way out.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 21-Feb-23 10:27:44

Bye bye.

growstuff Tue 21-Feb-23 12:14:18

Bring it on, Rishi!

Fleurpepper Tue 21-Feb-23 12:16:20

she won't be missed!!! Go Suella, and the whole of the ERG with you!

HousePlantQueen Tue 21-Feb-23 13:27:37

It gets more like something through the looking glass every day. She can go, and take her nasty racist policies with her as far as I am concerned, and a few of her pals too. It was quite obvious when Sunak got the job that she was the price he had to pay to keep the ERG off his case.

Agree with this. His appointments were what he thought were necessary to create a balanced cabinet and pay back where necessary.

the ERG will be the death of Great Britain sad
with the DUP sad

They are doing quite well already.

Oh I can’t wait for her to go, abysmal racist woman

Yup.

DaisyAnne Tue 21-Feb-23 14:45:33

Hopefully not, Fleurpepper.

From a purely political point of view, Sunak needs to be strong enough to tell his party that he will take this to a vote in Parliament. He needs to say that if it wins because of Tory votes, then everyone wins. If this happened he would gain power over the ERG.

He also needs to tell them (all Conservative MPs at a meeting of the 1922 Committee, perhaps) that if it wins, but needs the Labour votes to get it through, he will go to the country.

Unless Sunak stands up to the thugs in his party, this will fail once again.

Fleurpepper Tue 21-Feb-23 14:50:04

The ERG has caused untold damage on the UK. And we still don't know who they are (some we do, but we have no idea for sure on so many), and it is still partly funded by the public purse.

It is time their power wings were very seriously clipped, and hope Sunak will have the guts to do that. And the DUP too.

Cor, she is a nasty piece of you know what!

HousePlantQueen Tue 21-Feb-23 15:12:33

I really hope Sunak stands up to these people, call their bluff and threaten an election would be a good tactic. The ghastly racist ERG are a minority part of a minority government and must not be allowed to dictate policy. Be prepared for lots of press reports of 'illegal immigrants' in the next few weeks as they try to whip up their guillible supporters.

MaizieD Tue 21-Feb-23 15:30:04

To actually call an election would be even better, HPQ grin

Labour and the other opposition parties are so far ahead in the polls. That surely must indicate that the greater part of UK voters are thoroughly sick of this government.

Siope Tue 21-Feb-23 15:33:54

I see the ERG are now threatening to force a Parliamentary vote on any amendments that are negotiated. I hope they do. Sunak has been quite clever in putting two ERG stalwarts in charge of the issue (Heaton-Harris and Baker), who won’t therefore vote changes down, and will potentially still have allies on the right-wing of the Tories. Given support from Labour and other parties in the Commons, and a reasonable number of sensible and/or seeking future advancement Tories, I think the measures would pass and would leave the ERG considerably weakened. And if the measures were voted down, I suspect Sunak will know he’s on shaky ground and will call an election to stop Boris coming back. Either way, the ERG lose credibility and influence.

Fleurpepper Tue 21-Feb-23 15:35:00

Bleating and whining, because they have won!!!

He needs to sort this out, make it a 3 line whip then remove the whip from them like Johnson did to many of the more experienced, reasonable Tories, including the grandson of the man he purports to base his political career on. Sunak is learning what so many others including wives, mistresses, employers, political colleagues have found to their cost; the man is a completely unprincipled liar and cares for nobody other than himself.

Me too HPQ. I am hoping he has been backed into a corner where he has to.

Fleurpepper Wed 22-Feb-23 12:22:00

The ERG ensured Brexit became very hard line, and not at all what was promised. It got rid of Mrs May to get their own man in, lying all the way, and now want to do this again.

They must be stopped, or they will destroy Great Britain as we know it. The vast majority of the Tory Party knows this.

Fleurpepper Wed 22-Feb-23 12:24:39

Finally Rees-Mogg has let it out, by mistake or as a strong warning to Sunak and Conservatives ' anything the PM wants to achieve has to be approved by ERG first' !!!

MayBee70 Wed 22-Feb-23 12:29:07

I can’t quite believe that I’m looking on Sunak as quite a moderate centrist at this moment in time even though I know he was to the right of many of the decent Conservative MP’s that either left or were thrown out of the party.

Same here, we live in strange times.
