THB it didn't seem that surprising that Johnson put his dad up for a knighthood. Just wondering if he has enough clout to pull it off. What do you think?

Allsorts Tue 07-Mar-23 16:27:22

No he shouldn’t get it, disgraceful, the way knighthoods given out to flaky individuals, especial this one, he’s done nothing to be proud of, gets on my nerves. . I would not call anyone I didn’t respect Sir. About time the system was abolished it’s become meaningless.

The thing is, he has no real connections with France apart from his mother being born there. Can you imagine if everyone who has a parent born in the UK, but does not visit often, does not speak the language, doesn't have close connections to the country- could just walk in to British nationality.

I think we should wait and see. What's the use of speculating?

I think we have far too many people in the HOL already, but that's a separate issue.

The news came out at the weekend

What a dreadful idea.
Anyone else see him on the Hunted programme a few years ago? He kept saying how he had been in the intelligence service but had absolutely no idea of how to go anywhere 'under the radar'.

Grantanow Tue 07-Mar-23 18:26:58

It would bring the honours system into disrepute.

Fleurpepper Tue 07-Mar-23 21:51:56

If you think this is so so wrong, please sign the petition and make it to 150.000 by midnight- well on the way

143.000 and clicking up rapidly, I think it's pretty certain by midnight.

Grannmarie Tue 07-Mar-23 23:01:24

On the way to 200,000.

Wyllow3 Tue 07-Mar-23 23:13:53

I've signed a few Change.org and never seen it grow so quickly. I note its backed by the Independent newspapers acting editor: this is not a "leftie" move its serious middle ground.

It's putting Rishi Sunak in a very difficult position. Boris Johnson must have known this would happen. Is he on a bitter wrecking mission out of spite?

Casdon Tue 07-Mar-23 23:19:03

I do wonder if the Johnsons are having a laugh if I’m honest. For all their numerous flaws surely they aren’t so out of touch that they didn’t predict what the public reaction would be - I’m wondering who else has been nominated and is slipping in under the radar while the media waste energy on Stanley. Is he a red herring?

SachaMac Tue 07-Mar-23 23:26:41

They are both so bloody arrogant & entitled, let’s hope it doesn’t get through!!

Possibly, although I did predict that Boris Johnson would never become Prime Minister so my opinion on this is probably worthless!

I dislike the man, and a knighthood would be wrong, but he does speak the French language as can be seen in several interviews.

Wyllow3 Wed 08-Mar-23 15:18:20

Nearly 200.000.

Fleurpepper Wed 08-Mar-23 15:23:37

Well done Fleur..

Signed. This is all part of Boris's plan to undermine Richi. He thinks he can get back to no. 10. I hope he is wrong.

MaizieD Wed 08-Mar-23 20:36:40

Petition is at over 200,000 now. On the way to 300,000...

Will it impress where it matters, though hmm

Cold Wed 08-Mar-23 23:13:17

Well Boris managed to sneak his brother into the House of Lords, when the country was distracted by Covid in 2020, so he probably thinks he can do it again .....
