As, I understand, had always been intended. Well deserved though.

How ridiculous.

Good to hear that Prince Edward has been granted the title his grandfather wanted him to receive.
Apparently the delay was due to the fact that Edward has slid down the line of succession to fourteenth place and the Duke of Edinburgh is a prestigious title, with only three previous recipients, and it reverts to the Crown. Hence the suggestion that it may have been passed to Princess Charlotte.
It seems as though Charles has decided to honour his father's wishes, which is the right thing to do.

Jaberwok I think Louise is still just Lady.

Oh to be ‘just a Lady’… 😔

(that is the closest that I could get to a wistful emoji)

Officers and their Ladies
😁

Officers and their ladies other ranks and their wives.

Yes she is nadateturbe, but now she's passed her 18th birthday, a year ago I think, she has, if wanted, been able to use the title of Princess and HRH. It would appear that she doesn't want to, and is happy to remain Lady Louise.

Does the new Duke of Edinburgh have any connections/ special interest in/involvement with the City of Edinburgh?

Quite irrelevant to the awful issues facing ordinary people under the Tories. Another dead cat.

But more interesting to me at least than your predilection for deceased felines.
Still, repetition of phrases saves thought.

I’m going to get (even more) confused. To me, the King is George VI, the Queen is Elizabeth II, and the Duke of Edinburgh is Prince Philip. I’d better catch up.

I’m delighted that Edward and Sophie are now Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh - they are two of the hardest working royals. My DGD has met them twice and they remembered her the second time! She was only one of several school children who had won awards so not especially memorable!!

Not sure about the city, but he's been very involved in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme, which is a world-wide organisation, for many years.

FannyC I thought that as I typed it..."just a lady".

Very pleased to read this.
Edward and Sophie embody the best in “working Royals” he may not be overly intellectual but he is genuine, sincere and as a Royal should, brightens their day for the people he meets.
His involvement with and commitment to the D of E Award scheme goes back a few years and this is well deserved.
Took a while? Maybe, I don’t know how long Court Mourning affects things like this, but if it’s his birthday, it saved Camilla going out to buy him more socks.

😆
I agree and think Edward and Sophie do a good job, a real team just like William and Kate.

Edward and Sophie seem to get on with their roles quietly and without fuss, so I’m pleased they have have been made Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

They get on quietly with their roles, without fuss, so I’m pleased that Charles has carried out his parents wishes and given them this title.

Oops, sorry for the repeat there - I thought my first post hadn’t gone through 😁.

Grany Mon 13-Mar-23 15:41:01

Prince Edward being made Duke of Edinburgh same as Boris Johnson awarding titles and honours to his brother and father.

"If we're going to have such daft titles they should be decided by parliament or government - and it should not be possible for the head of state to award his own family."

"We cannot complain one day about a prime minister awarding his brother and father with titles and status, then ignore the head of state the following day awarding his brother with titles and status."

"It might also be reasonable, if the title is to persist, to seek the views of the people of Edinburgh, who might not be so keen to be associated with Edward."

"If this is accepted as a normal part of the way monarchy works, then there's another reason to scrap the monarchy and have a modern, principled constitution."

Mollygo Mon 13-Mar-23 16:28:37

Go Grany! I’ve missed your repetition!

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 13-Mar-23 16:34:52

A bit late to the party but better late than never. Sadly predictable though.

Glorianny Mon 13-Mar-23 18:29:28

Predictable it may be. True it certainly is.

henetha Mon 13-Mar-23 18:34:35

It's a poor comparison Grany. Doesn't make sense.

Kim19 Mon 13-Mar-23 18:41:59

Sounds good to me. 👍

Mollygo Mon 13-Mar-23 19:10:56
