Hello 👋
Just that. A straw poll.
It would be interesting to see the lay of the land with this.
See how it goes…

Mollygo Tue 18-Apr-23 13:06:50

It’s evidently not propaganda if republicans post their dislike of the monarchy, but us propaganda if someone posts their liking for the monarchy or their dislike of republicans.
Sorry Grany, V3 etc. I didn’t know that until I read your posts.

Yammy Tue 18-Apr-23 13:20:51

I don't think you have to be a Republican not to want to watch the Coronation. A lot of people see it as a complete waste of money when so many people are struggling.
Having talked to quite a few people who object to being told to be a volunteer on the day. They do it already without having to be told to.
My answer is neh which is what the poster first asked us before the post ended up as a political argument.

PerkyPiggy Tue 18-Apr-23 13:21:28

Nay for me. Not a Royalist so not interested.

And I wouldn't have known that FannyCornforth's heading was pinched from the Daily Mail.

FannyCornforth Tue 18-Apr-23 13:53:55

It wasn’t confused

FannyCornforth Tue 18-Apr-23 13:55:46

Oh, I see, V3 didn’t mean this thread.

I agree. I don’t find it acceptable to quote propaganda as opposed to posting your own view.

Maybe somebody can explain to me how quoting Republic is considered to be propaganda, but quoting Daily Mail headlines verbatim as a thread title is acceptable?

Apologies, FannyCornforth

Apparently it is nothing to do with this thread title.

A red herring.

Sorry, bringing another thread into this one. Grany gets all sort of grief for quoting Republic and told that she should give her opinion, not quite "propaganda".

Another poster quotes a misleading DM headline verbatim with no indication of where it's from and nobody bats an eyelid.

Anniebach Tue 18-Apr-23 18:33:13

You are not sorry

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 18-Apr-23 18:34:04

No.

volver3 Tue 18-Apr-23 18:44:23

Am I not?

How nice that you understand my thinking better than I do myself. 🤔

Callistemon21 Tue 18-Apr-23 23:33:05

Oh dear, the good old DM again!!
It is a mainstream newspaper.
It must be widely read, it's mentioned by someone or other, love it or hate it, on nearly every thread even if it's not relevant 😁

Republic is a political pressure group.

Mollygo Tue 18-Apr-23 23:52:08

Republic is a political pressure group.
Capable of propaganda fed to its willing supporters? 🤣🤣🤣

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 19-Apr-23 08:51:31

One of whom then quotes it to us.

Grany Wed 19-Apr-23 10:58:11

Thank you volver people do use quotes from newspapers as talking points for discussion especially on politic news thread

Is this corruption

"An elegant Edinburgh property that was given to Queen Elizabeth II in her role as sovereign, and for more than 40 years was managed by the UK government, is being privately rented out by the king for a profit."

From the Guardian, quote

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 19-Apr-23 11:02:53

Doesn’t sound like corruption to me - her property as monarch, now passed to new monarch. Why not rent it out?

Oh these second home owners!😱 Letting out their homes to make money! 😱😱
I wonder if it’s registered as a small business to avoid paying council tax, even though the owner/occupiers use the local facilities, roads, parks, refuse collection etc. Seems to be a thing in Scotland if what I heard on the radio was true. But it might have been propaganda from the BBC.

I can see the difference between a quote from the Guardian and propaganda from Republic.

An elegant Edinburgh property that was given to Queen Elizabeth II in her role as sovereign, and for more than 40 years was managed by the UK government, is being privately rented out by the king for a profit.

Is a direct quote from the Guardian, a mainstream newspaper.

Adding Is this corruption as if this was printed in the Guardian is wrong as it is Republic or one of its supporters putting a spin on what was reported in the Guardian.

And a quote from the DM that is intentionally inflammatory and skewed, but has launched a completely disgusting thread blaming children for fleeing war and terror?

Can you see the difference in that?

That's propaganda.

Grany Wed 19-Apr-23 14:40:42

Callistemon

The quote marks was the quote from the Guardian. It begs asking the question or statement Is this corruption.
Plain facts nothing to do with propaganda you can agree that renting a public property for profit is right or wrong your choice but people should know.

Propaganda is what Volver said it is in reply to you.

Grany Sun 23-Apr-23 09:41:57

Over 1000 protesters will be along King Charles coronation route I will be looking out for that. If BBC pan out they will be heard. smile

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 23-Apr-23 09:44:47

It’s not a public property Grany. It’s a property which was given to the monarch. It wasn’t given to the State. Successive monarchs can do whatever they want with it, just as you could if it was given to you.

The palace’s policy on official gifts states that they “are not the private property of the member of the royal family who receives them.”

So not the Queen's property then. Just that her son fancied making some money out of it.

I assume that this is the property in Moray Place?
