Gobsmacked…….

Ilovecheese Tue 18-Apr-23 12:17:52

What is your source?

LadyGracie Tue 18-Apr-23 12:31:50

Google it, it's true!

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 18-Apr-23 12:48:39

Drakeford has evidently gone mad.

Ilovecheese Tue 18-Apr-23 12:56:16

I Googled and saw pieces from The Sun, The Express and the Mail, oh and a twitter account named "Toryboypierce"

Think they might be a tiny bit biased perhaps??

maddyone Tue 18-Apr-23 12:56:46

Is it true?

LadyGracie Tue 18-Apr-23 13:27:18

Nothing DippyDrakeford does is a surprise.
He couldn't even run a bath.

pascal30 Tue 18-Apr-23 13:46:21

But that's double what people get for their state pension... and much more than unemployment benefit for most.. what is he hoping to achieve?

Casdon Tue 18-Apr-23 13:46:59

I have no doubt that he takes a shower, as it’s more environmentally friendly.
I’m proud to live in a country where we have a FM who cares.

It's not Drakeford 's baby.

You might all want to get past the indignant pouting and find out do what the real story is. Not what the Daily Mail tells you it is.

Come on now volver3, you know that doesn’t fit the narrative!

It’s not just the above mentioned.

So it is actually aimed at care leavers. It sounds a very good idea, also a good idea to have a trial period so that results can be assessed.
The right wing headlines are just a silly emphasis to stir people up.
Care leavers need all the help they can get, and if that included some refugee children who have been in care, then yes, Wales can indeed be proud of their Government.

pascal30 Tue 18-Apr-23 14:37:57

Well that makes much more sense...

Thanks for this Meryl - the plot is now thinning and not thickening grin

Cares so much about his own pensioners. Obviously not. The man is a fool.

HousePlantQueen Tue 18-Apr-23 14:43:58

I seem to remember this being discussed a while ago? Once the indignation and fuss had died down, it turned out to be an admirable scheme to help young care leavers.

www.gov.wales/wales-pilots-basic-income-scheme

Sounds as if a few right wing journalists found an old article.

Poppyred Tue 18-Apr-23 15:12:48

Giving young care leavers a helping hand is not what’s being discussed here.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 18-Apr-23 15:12:55

As I understand it, the plan is to put young migrants on the same footing as young care leavers, who have been getting these payments for a while, and for this income to be ignored for legal aid purposes when fighting deportation.

Happy for all who live in Wales being pleased that asylum seekers are going to get all that money! Am guessing there’ll be loads in Wales not at all happy about it tho.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 18-Apr-23 15:48:35

When you compare it with state pension and benefits …

paddyann54 Tue 18-Apr-23 16:03:09

Pensions are not devolved they are in the control of the DWP who we all know is Westminster based .Not a thing Mr Drakeford can do about them !

Oreo Tue 18-Apr-23 16:05:08

Mr Drakeford can do something about not coming forward with nutty ideas tho.

Freya5 Tue 18-Apr-23 16:16:17

Perhaps all you who are happy for throwing money away on potty ideas, wonder where all this went

Far too logical and there's always the risk (god forbid) it's not true. Where's the controversy and pearl clutching potential in that?
