Hello 👋
Just that. A straw poll.
It would be interesting to see the lay of the land with this.
See how it goes…

Grany

Thank you volver people do use quotes from newspapers as talking points for discussion especially on politic news thread

Is this corruption

"An elegant Edinburgh property that was given to Queen Elizabeth II in her role as sovereign, and for more than 40 years was managed by the UK government, is being privately rented out by the king for a profit."

From the Guardian, quote

I can see the difference between a quote from the Guardian and propaganda from Republic.

An elegant Edinburgh property that was given to Queen Elizabeth II in her role as sovereign, and for more than 40 years was managed by the UK government, is being privately rented out by the king for a profit.

Is a direct quote from the Guardian, a mainstream newspaper.

Adding Is this corruption as if this was printed in the Guardian is wrong as it is Republic or one of its supporters putting a spin on what was reported in the Guardian.

Oh these second home owners!😱 Letting out their homes to make money! 😱😱
I wonder if it’s registered as a small business to avoid paying council tax, even though the owner/occupiers use the local facilities, roads, parks, refuse collection etc. Seems to be a thing in Scotland if what I heard on the radio was true. But it might have been propaganda from the BBC.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 19-Apr-23 11:02:53

Doesn’t sound like corruption to me - her property as monarch, now passed to new monarch. Why not rent it out?

One of whom then quotes it to us.

Mollygo Tue 18-Apr-23 23:52:08

Republic is a political pressure group.
Capable of propaganda fed to its willing supporters? 🤣🤣🤣

Callistemon21 Tue 18-Apr-23 23:33:05

Oh dear, the good old DM again!!
It is a mainstream newspaper.
It must be widely read, it's mentioned by someone or other, love it or hate it, on nearly every thread even if it's not relevant 😁

Republic is a political pressure group.

volver3 Tue 18-Apr-23 18:44:23

Am I not?

How nice that you understand my thinking better than I do myself. 🤔

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 18-Apr-23 18:34:04

No.

Anniebach Tue 18-Apr-23 18:33:13

You are not sorry

Sorry, bringing another thread into this one. Grany gets all sort of grief for quoting Republic and told that she should give her opinion, not quite "propaganda".

Another poster quotes a misleading DM headline verbatim with no indication of where it's from and nobody bats an eyelid.

I agree. I don’t find it acceptable to quote propaganda as opposed to posting your own view.

Maybe somebody can explain to me how quoting Republic is considered to be propaganda, but quoting Daily Mail headlines verbatim as a thread title is acceptable?

Apologies, FannyCornforth

Apparently it is nothing to do with this thread title.

A red herring.

Foxygloves Tue 18-Apr-23 14:06:40

^My answer is neh which is what the poster first asked us before the post ended up as a political argument^

And I wouldn't have known that FannyCornforth's heading was pinched from the Daily Mail.

It's not.

FannyCornforth Tue 18-Apr-23 13:55:46

Oh, I see, V3 didn’t mean this thread.

FannyCornforth Tue 18-Apr-23 13:53:55

Nay for me. Not a Royalist so not interested.

Yammy Tue 18-Apr-23 13:20:51

I don't think you have to be a Republican not to want to watch the Coronation. A lot of people see it as a complete waste of money when so many people are struggling.
Having talked to quite a few people who object to being told to be a volunteer on the day. They do it already without having to be told to.
My answer is neh which is what the poster first asked us before the post ended up as a political argument.

Mollygo Tue 18-Apr-23 13:06:50

It’s evidently not propaganda if republicans post their dislike of the monarchy, but us propaganda if someone posts their liking for the monarchy or their dislike of republicans.
Sorry Grany, V3 etc. I didn’t know that until I read your posts.

LadyGracie Tue 18-Apr-23 12:23:22

We'll be watching on Sky News, none of this talking for talkings sake, interrupting to talk to a bunch of celebrities on a couch somewhere, why?
Alistair Bruce, a softly spoken gentleman who commentates for Sky News is a military man, he knows all the facts about all the servicemen taking part and their history.
We first discovered Sky News when they broadcast Trooping of the Colour, we then also watched the Queens funeral.
Try it!

Grany Tue 18-Apr-23 11:38:35

#AbolishTheMonarchy a waste of space and money.Do you royalists not care that Charles did not pay inheritance tax nor pay for his parade. I will be watching the protesters with yellow and black placards unmissable. The met want to stop peaceful demonstrations but Republic has spoken to them. By the way Channel 4 has an Andrew interview played by actors on coronation day and a well known comedian questioning having a monarchy smile

Callistemon21 Tue 18-Apr-23 11:34:03

Grany

Republic do not do propaganda unlike the royals who use the BBC as their mouthpiece used abused as a state broadcaster. Republic deals in facts and I like to use them from the horses mouth as it were they say it so much better. So you don't want to know royals have art jewels ect that doesn't belong to them?

It's political propaganda quoted on Gransnet regularly.
I doubt that other political movements would be allowed to get away with this on what is essentially a social networking chat forum.
