Identifying as a different gender

On numerous chat programme lately it has been mentioned that a school teacher in an All Girl private school who greeted her pupils with an "Good morning girls", was made to apologise by the head as some of the pupils complained as some of them were identifying as a different gender.
My question is should a pupil who is identifying as different gender be asked to move from a single sex school?
Parents have obviously chosen that school because they wanted their child to be in that environment whether it be for a religious beliefs or better education.

Hello again

Bullying was nowhere on the agenda until it was mentioned how GC feminists use bully tactics on these thrrafs

Now you have decided that anyone who is trans or non binary or cares about them... is a bully..

That's not how the real world works where employers employ people and have policies the employees sign up to, which have consequences

That's not how the real world works where decent people apologise for wrong doing and don't look for excuses to villanise children children

This is all so put of touch with reality and you guys won't let us hypothesise about the situation but you have all decided trand people, theor allies, school staff and children are bullies

I just cannot understand it, people who care about trans people are not bullies

Yes, it was all going swimmingly until Glorianny (can't remember which) accused those who disagreed with you of being bullies. We've been over this ground to the point of tedium, but questioning people and picking up on their answers is not bullying, it is debate. You could ask me something about my answer (clarification, or how it fits with things I've said earlier, for example) and it wouldn't be bullying - it would be helping the discussion.

Now you have decided that anyone who is trans or non binary or cares about them... is a bully.
Now that is twisting. Nobody has said that. Can you please quote from someone who said or implied anything that makes you think they would think that, never mind say it?

If I follow what you are saying, yes - of course that is true, but we don't know what the teacher signed, or what the school's policies are. Glorianny made that up grin. It may be that she is right, but equally, it may not, so at this stage, we can't work on that assumption. What is difficult about that?

That's not how the real world works where decent people apologise for wrong doing and don't look for excuses to villanise children children
People will apologise if they feel they have done something wrong, but how would you feel if you were made to stand in front of a class, with a Head teacher next to you, and made to apologise for doing something you thought was acceptable? In any case, what you, I, or anyone else would have felt is neither here nor there, really - the teacher has said that she felt humiliated and embarrassed. It's in the article linked to on P1. Also, if someone apologised to me because they were told to, I would feel insulted. Maybe the children did, maybe they felt that they had scored points, maybe they felt guilty, maybe they felt sorry for the teacher, maybe they'd been pressured into writing their names on the board. Maybe maybe maybe. We don't know.

This is all so put of touch with reality and you guys won't let us hypothesise about the situation but you have all decided trand people, theor allies, school staff and children are bullies
Hypothesise away - ask what if x, y or z; but please don't make up a situation and present it as the reality, as we don't know the whole story. I don't think that anyone has decided that all those people are bullies. Personally, I think that Glorianny's behaviour on this thread has been bullying, yours is getting perilously close, and the Head would be very lucky to get away with her behaviour if it happened the way it was described in the article in most unionised environments. Others may feel differently though - that's the beauty of a discussion forum.

I just cannot understand it, people who care about trans people are not bullies
Some are, some aren't. I, for one, care about trans people, but you have accused me of bullying. How does that work?

I can't actually cope with this for now.

I'm trying but cognitive dissonance is just such a mind..... and I can't read it played out over and over any more

You aren’t the only one struggling on this thread violet. I’m increasingly finding your posts hard to make sense of
That’s particularly the case in your latest comment ????

VioletSky Thu 27-Apr-23 20:43:23

I'm sorry but I've given up trying to have any kind of respectful discussion here

Smileless2012 Thu 27-Apr-23 20:56:40

I think you're right about there being a possibility for an official complaint against the head if this was played out as the article states, in a unionised environment Doodledog.

But you brought it up! Why post a long rant about others and then complain when they reply?

I've just had an email about an online petition I signed. The government has scheduled a debate on the topic that they should update the equality act to make clear the characteristic 'sex' is biological sex. Will be interesting to see how that goes.

25Avalon Fri 28-Apr-23 09:46:29

I’ve had that too Adeline. Hopefully it will be clarified after the debate.

Iam64 Fri 28-Apr-23 09:50:44

I had the email today as well

Smileless2012 Fri 28-Apr-23 10:05:59

I signed but no email. This is good news and fingers crossed that common sense prevails and this is made abundantly clear in the Equality Act.

Doodledog Fri 28-Apr-23 10:12:55

I have the email too. the debate will be on 12 June, and they will send out a video and transcript.

This has never happened after any other petition I've signed - I wonder what's different about this one? A massive number of signatures, maybe?

Mollygo Fri 28-Apr-23 10:26:05

I signed, but no email so far.
Just as you put it Smileless2012

Smileless2012 Fri 28-Apr-23 10:37:34

I think that must be the reason Doodledog which illustrates how many are concerned about this issue.

Rosie51 Fri 28-Apr-23 10:50:44

Usually when the petition reaches the number to trigger consideration of a debate, the government decides there is no need for a debate, and there's no absolute obligation on them to have one. I think this has become a subject they can no longer ignore, perhaps helped along by the recent rape and sex offender convicts housed in female prisons.
Incidentally there have been petitions with more signatures that haven't been granted a debate.

Doodledog Fri 28-Apr-23 11:38:58

Yes, I have signed many petitions over the years, but this is the first time I have been told there will be a transcript and video of the debate sent out. Maybe that's just because technology allows it now, though.

Glorianny Fri 28-Apr-23 12:42:20

These are the petitions just debated by Parliament. If you click on the name of the petition you will be offered the chance to watch or have a transcript of the debate. It's nothing new or unusual petition.parliament.uk/petitions?state=debated

Smileless2012 Fri 28-Apr-23 12:50:12

We know Glorianny but we're still very pleased that at least it's being debated, especially as Rosie said petitions with more signatures haven't been granted one.

Doodledog Fri 28-Apr-23 12:50:28

Is it a new thing to send them out to signees?

I don't know, and it's not relevant to the thread. I commented only because I've never been sent them before.

Glorianny Fri 28-Apr-23 13:59:36

I've had notices about videos and transcripts for quite a few including Do not reduce ratios of staff to children in early years.

Doodledog Fri 28-Apr-23 15:04:40

I did stop ticking the 'keep me informed' box some time ago though. That may have something to do with it - maybe I overlooked it this time. 😂

Smileless2012 Fri 28-Apr-23 15:52:37

Oh I think that's why I haven't had an email, I wont have ticked the 'keep me informed' box.
