I have just seen this on twitter and it is quite the strangest thing I've seen for a long while.

As one commenter said, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry..

It did irresistibly remind me of a Beyond the Fringe sketch from the 60s which discussed Britain's latest missile which 'depended on a team of highly trained cyclists to carry it into battle'...

(Not sure if it really belongs on N & P but some people might enjoy appreciate it...)

What @the voice” says is pretty frightening. Ignorance, when embraced by crowds is frightening

BlueBelle

I don’t think they have standards at all now Norah
They used to have to be no less than a certain height I think it was 5’8. They had to be fit and be able to run a mile in a certain time they had to have good eyesight There’s no way they would be let in te force with bushy beards and tattoos
It was similar to the military, they were looked up to
Now anyone can’t get in they seem to be so desperate they seem to have no pride in their uniform some are over weight, short, and when I saw a policeman with tattoos I believe they have lost feeling of authority

Well, what fun you’ve all had tittering away. No doubt you’d all have been able to do so much better, even in your heyday, running with the standard 30 or so pounds of police kit slung around you. Hint - it does tend to make many officers look “over weight” (sic).

And short? Oh dear, yes, of course, BlueBelle, no man or woman under 5 foot 8 should ever be deemed fit to serve.

How stupid am I to be incredibly proud of my 5 foot 2 family member who’s faced down knife wielding criminals and disarmed thugs with shotguns to keep people like you safe.

Oh, and her eyesight’s not 100% either. Though her husband’s was until a career thug threw acid in his face.

Carry on mocking. It says everything about you, nothing about the brave police officers you despise so much.

If I was being helped by a police person I wouldn’t care if his beard or tattoos were showing … the height restriction had to go because of sexism …women rarely reach 5’8”

Maggiemaybe, well said! I am also very proud of our family members who are serving police officers too - even though one of them (shock horror!) has a beard and tattoos!

I'm sorry that you can't see how utterly bizarre this convoy looked, Maggiemaybe. Or question why it should have been thought to be necessary in the first place.
