That Douglas Ross does my head in and the conservatives they’ll never get back in not in a million years

ronib Sat 29-Apr-23 08:12:51

Well Volver 3 seems then from pro independence position, only SNP will fight that corner?

volver3 Sat 29-Apr-23 08:14:55

The Greens, who haven't exactly set the heather on fire recently.

Alba, if we're in the mood for a laugh.

That's about it.

Aveline Sat 29-Apr-23 08:28:42

Apt summary Volver.

Douglas Ross, Conservative, suggested tactical voting to oust the SNP at the next general election. Rishi Sunak suggested not to do that and that Conservatives should always vote for their own party.

Seems pretty obvious that telling voters to increase the Labour vote if that removes the SNP will result in a Labour victory in Westminster. So a doh moment in politics. Another one.

Labour in my English county are doing the very same, even made a you tube channel to put it out there, tactical voting to get rid of local Conservative councillors, even though they have done much good. Tactical voting and putting it forward is not illegal, unfortunately. Done all over the UK and NI.

ronib Sat 29-Apr-23 08:49:57

The legality of tactical voting wasn’t questioned more the incredible stupidity of yet another politician. Douglas Ross doesn’t seem at all capable in his current leadership position.

What is wrong with Alba?

paddyann54 do you mean The Prince of Wales ship built in Rosyth? That’s Scotland? Don’t think you have given a full picture.
The Prince of Wales is being mended at a cost of £25 million and will still become operational. It’s not unusual, according to one news article for parts to be transferred.
Now back to the ferries - just wondering how the Scottish islanders are coping?

Well said.

What is wrong with Alba?

Alba are led by Alex Salmond but many of their members are just extremists.

I believe Tommy Sheridan is a member? And lots of people with grudges?

Also Alex was of the opinion that we shouldn't allow the Stone of Scone back to England for the coronation. Ash Regan agreed with him. 🤦🏼‍♀️

They give Independence supporters a bad name. IMO.

No conservative mp in Scotland since 1955 ?

Agreed ronib. Ross isn't a councillor, he is head of the Tory Party in Scotland. He suggested that people who might think of voting Tory in the GE should vote Labour if it meant "getting the SNP out".

Can you imagine Rishi telling people to vote for Labour?

The reason you (general, not you particularly) think that the SNP keep banging on about independence is that Ross keeps telling you so; he's obsessed, and has nothing to offer the Scottish people except "we're not the SNP". In his recent speech at conference he mentioned the "SNP" more than 100 times, the "Tories" once or twice, and "poverty", not at all. He's a bit of a laughing stock.

There's six at the moment.

We were down to one a few years ago. That was good. They had to make him Secretary of State for Scotland. 🤣

ronib Sat 29-Apr-23 09:18:52

I always thought Alex Cole Hamilton had good intentions? Bit sad really that with all the problems facing ordinary folk, the politicians are not really up to the task.

Anniebach Sat 29-Apr-23 09:20:29

🤣, we have 14 of em in Wales 😡

volver3 Sat 29-Apr-23 09:22:07

I'm reserving judgement about ACH. He seems OK.

ronib Sat 29-Apr-23 09:45:25

Just read that Douglas Ross is stepping down as mp at the next election.

Parsley3 Sat 29-Apr-23 11:25:32

Ross should have stood down as an MP when he was elected to Holyrood. He must find it taxing to juggle his three jobs, MP, MSP and football referee. Four if I add being the high heid yin of the Scottish Conservatives. Unfortunately for them he is no Ruth Davidson.

another one getting out before he is thrown out. It is disappointing, because Ross is one on my list of current MPs who I would like to see defeated, nay humiliated, in the coming GE.

Ross's facial gestures remind me of the late Donald Dewar, all pursed mouth and sneers. It was said of Dewar that he had the expression of one whose fingers had just gone through the toilet paper.

Apologies to those of a sensitive disposition.

Spluttering coffee everywhere, HousePlantQueen!
😂😂😂

Yet at one time the Secretary of State for Wales was a Consrrvative MP for an English constituency.

Aveline Sat 29-Apr-23 12:24:52

I wish Donald Dewar was still around. God knows what he'd think of the current shower in Scottish 'government'.

Callistemon21 Sat 29-Apr-23 12:33:21

Aveline

I always thought he seemed a good politician, an intelligent and thoughtful man, unlike some of today's politicians.

I shouldn't have laughed about his expression, it was unkind.
Perhaps there was much going on to make him look like that.

Anniebach Sat 29-Apr-23 13:02:42

Callistemon. John Redwood !

paddyann54 Sat 29-Apr-23 14:22:10

DonaldDewar backed devolution ...along with John Smith ,as a way of getting rid of the call for Independence .His insistence on the new building at Holyrood and its massive overspend by the then Labour administration was against what the SNP advised .We wanted to refurbish the old High School building ,Dewar thought the new building and it Spanish architect might put folk off even devolution! He was wrong .
Now WM is conniving to roll devolution back ,what they should remember is that everyone born since devolution knows what good can happen even with the very limited powers we have ....and the vast majority of 16 -35 year olds ...over 70% say they want Independence ,Being of a generation thats used to getting what they want ...they aren't prepared to wait the 56 years I and many like me have waited .

Annie I didn't say NO tory mp's ,but no majority in almost 70 years when we've had them foisted on us for over half that time by English voters . Scotland has not returned a tory government since 1955 ,the year my OH was born .
IS this democracy?

Cathymac Sat 29-Apr-23 18:42:04

Yes it is democracy. Orkney and Shetland never get the Lib Dem government they vote for

volver3 Sat 29-Apr-23 18:43:32

Orkney and Shetland aren't countries.
