Will You Pledge Allegiance?

I like having a monarchy. I enjoy a bit of pageantry. And it does give a continuity which is missing from most democracies. But, I'm not that bothered. And, if, if it's raining and I were to find myself watching the coronation I would be on my own in the sitting room. Alone. (DH would be off, either napping or doing something useful). So who will know? Don't there need to be witnesses to pledges? So no, I shan't stand alone in my room, hand on heart and pledge anything.

As far as pledging allegiance - I pledged allegiance to this country when I became a U.S. citizen - but not to any particular person, leader, president. I love my country and I vote every election, I support what I support, sing the anthem and say the pledge at certain events, and am a respectful citizen to all and everything.

If that doesn’t smack of allegiance, I don’t know what does. If at home I would never feel that I have to stand in front of the TV every time our national anthem comes on or when the Pres. appears.

I will - did it when I joined the military but will do again and be proud to do so. I can however understand why others don't want to. Different strokes, different folks

I still stand for the National Anthem. I participate if watching a church servce on TV. I like the thought of a national/intercommonwealth acknowledgement of Charles being crowned …but would rather celebrate it with, say, communal clapping/cheering - like New Year..or when we used to clap the NHS

I really think the ones that do will be doing it for the selfies. They'll be all over the internet next week. I won't be watching either but I might see if there are stills or short videos on YT. There'll definitely be 'overkill' on the msm this week and next weekend. Not that I would ever pledge allegiance, the think that worries me is the bit about "according to the Law". I'm not sure whether or not the British Forces get any punishment for breaking their oath to King and Country but what happens if you've pledged whilst enjoying a barbie and copious amounts of booze and then do something considered against the 'Oath'. Will you be dragged off to the local jail? Sounds dodgy to me. I think I'll pass.

How are they going to know if it has been, in the Archbishop's words, "a great cry" or just a whimper? I presume we'll be seeing carefully selected footage, on the news, where various loyal subjects are mouthing the pledge. The implication will be that millions of us did it.

No I won’t. I have great allegiance to my heritage and to this country of ours, struggling as it is at present, but my view of the monarchy is that it is a constitutionally useful tool. I cannot swear allegiance to that, I am afraid!

I think Princess Anne is right: the monarchy does bring continuity and therefore stability. However the Windsor family does shoot itself in the foot for being so rich in landed resources.

The Windsors need good salaries from the public purse but they should be stripped of the enormity of their inherited wealth as should other super-rich individuals. Land should be held by the citizens, for the citizens, and not for the benefit of any rich elite.

No we are not supposed to we were invited to do it should we like so to make us feel part of the service guess he is trying to make us feel like we are united. But guess if you in a place with loads of ppl should a few stand up no doubt we will all do it as we like sheep if one or two do it we do it without thinking lol

As people...most of the royal family are okay ...but I think they should be self sufficient....I also think that the amount of money being spent on this Coronation is obscene ,especially now.....

I curtseyed with hands together to another woman in a foreign country where it's the custom for a younger woman when introduced to curtsey to the older woman.
