Why doesn’t the NHS do more to retain the medical staff they already have instead of thinking up new schemes for training? Where are the people to train these apprentices to come from?
The NHS haemorrhages so many people because of poor conditions. If they sorted that, the staffing issues would diminish.
I threw the towel in 5 yrs ago after 40 yrs nursing and midwifing, we were expected to do more with less resources year on year. At the same time patients were expecting a higher level of service ( home births, pool etc).
Since then it has got much worse, the answer is more staff to spread the workload, competitive pay to make the industry more attractive and better working conditions. Particularly hours, at the end of a busy 12 hour shift, you are often not making the best decisions, truck drivers are not allowed do work 12 hours, why are midwives.
More cash has to be found from somewhere
