Very little of the Brexit wall remains it seems to me

So, the great trashing of EU law is now being quietly put to bed.

Meet reality brexiters! Year after year, month after month and day after day, people, businesses and politicians have been treading the path to no 10 to try to make the Tories to see sense. Like children they have shaken their heads and refused to listen until stark reality stares them in the face. They even quietly changed a law to March in step with an EU change.

I also note that the checks are being delayed yet again.

So little of Brexit remains - that even the EU is willing to chat with the U.K. about trade, potential easier movement for people etc.

I wonder how many thousands of billions this has cost?

I should have explained that Badenoch is responsible for withdrawing the bill to reverse EU law. I suspect she tried to sneak announcement of it in The Telegraph rather than in parliament which is her statutory duty. She didn’t want to get it in the neck from the hard line brexiters.

Don’t think Jacob Rees Mogg is pleased so perhaps a very convoluted exercise by Kemi Badenoch /Sunak to keep his faction out ?

I wonder if Brexit and Tory supporters realise that immigration is now at an all time high.

That can’t be an EU law though. Every other person in Europe seems to keep chickens.

And no few small numbers in the U.K.

😁
I don't think that's strictly true now, it might have been when I was in France about 60 years ago, but even then the family I was with didn't have chickens.

We are not allowed to keep chickens here either, it's in the deeds.
Although I've sometimes wondered whether to test the system but we have a wandering fox round here.

Your deeds have nothing to do with EU Law however.

In rural France, many people still keep a few chickens and a rooster. There have been restrictions recentlyall over EU due to avian flu- a totally different matter.

Ok - but I wasn’t calling her “the blob” merely using it as a quote.

But if you interpreted it that way - I apologise - and hope it is now just one wrong😄😄

Sorry Whitewavemark2 I have absolutely no problem with critiquing anyone’s politics or actions, I just feel uncomfortable with personal insults whoever they are.

If that was not your intention I apologise 😘

Wasn’t it Leadsom who eluded to Theresa May being unable to have children?

It was interesting to listen to Skidmore on Peston last night; when the ERG faction were mentioned during a discussion about the new controversial laws regarding 'stopping the boats'....he just rolled his eyes.

I don't think I said it it was, I thought it had moved on to chatting about how many people keep chickens.

Your memory is fantastic - fast becoming an oracle 🙂

I think I only remember things that really really annoy me!

Yes - one of the reasons for her being referred to as Loathsome.

Sorry about the diversion to chickens - what I meant to say was that with so many thousands of EU laws and regulations, how is the average citizen supposed to know what they are? If you can’t work that out, what is the point of having them in the first place?
Yes chickens definitely in our deeds!

The laws that contain EU related content do not constitute the larger part of UK law. You'd be amazed at how much law there is on the Statute Book...

This might give a feel for how much UK 'law' exists

NONE of the four nations (as a whole) voted to leave the EU by the way. 73% did NOT vote for Brexit; only 27% did (or 37% of the electorate). But the way the Referendum was set up by Cameron, it only needed ONE vote over 50% of those that cast a vote to tip us over the edge. In the end it was a highly marginal 1.9%.

And people say it was democratic- especially now we all know how it was achieved.

🐾 🐔 We hugely welcome the UK Government’s U-turn on their plans to scrap the retained EU legislation, which could have wiped out 44 animal welfare laws, including bans on battery hens and using growth promoters on farm animals!🙌

Ah but they didn't need experts, did they???

Business has been lobbying the Tories since Brexit not to ditch all the EU derived laws. The essential point is that efficient export to and import from the EU is greatly helped by having common regulations so that goods and services meet the same requirements. Rees-Mogg's idea of a bonfire of EU regulation was never going to fly and Badenoch has just grounded it. Most of the EU derived laws were approved at the time by UK Ministers at the EU Council, not imposed on us by faceless bureaucrats in Brussels as Brexiteers would have us believe.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 12-May-23 08:17:25

It seems that Badenoch has a reputation for arrogance, being patronising and condescending amongst fellow parliamentarians, just as growstuff described.

I’ve never really taken much notice of her, but I figure her leadership ambitions will not be fulfilled if she doesn’t wind here neck in.
