I’m definitely not burning mine Callistemon. I’m more like to be buying more bras than burning them.

What I don’t understand is why she wins awards. Awards for what? Being a Woman of Vision? In what way has she been visionary? Would that be for slagging off the royal family? Or not seeing the value in family relationships, especially for young children? Or for becoming a multi millionaire for slagging off the royal family making a Netflix series about something, I’m not sure what as I didn’t watch it, was it for making a series about herself? I just wish I actually understood what she really got the award for. Maybe I’m lacking in brain power but I just don’t understand it! I do know she got another award for standing up tho racism. That’s a worthy award, except she didn’t. Stand up to racism I mean. She just accused the royal family of racism which is totally unproven. Wouldn’t stand up in a court of law, that’s for sure. I think it’s called hearsay. In other words unproven.

I suggest you do a bit of research into her charity and activism both before and since she married Harry. She has been an ambassador for World Vision, leading discussions about menstruation and other hidden topics in India. She was an advocate for women at the UN. In the UK she was involved in One World Vision for young people and SmartWorks a charity for unemployed women, helping them into work. Archewell still donates to many women's charities. She's taken part in and supported numerous women's events and charities as D of S. Just because it doesn't make the UK press you know nothing about it

maddyone Tue 23-May-23 11:15:40

Oh I knew she’d suggest that Glorrianny.
They give some, not that much, to their chosen charities.

Anniebach Tue 23-May-23 11:18:03

She needs to put care into the hurt she has inflicted on those closer to home.

Glorianny Tue 23-May-23 11:18:24

It isn't just about giving money. It's about advocacy and speaking out. Which have always been features of women's activism and which she has always done.
I think the RF probably wanted to keep her quiet. Speaking out isn't something they do.

Yes, we do know and yes, I've mentioned it before.
I'm not disputing that at all.

However, sometimes Plain English is a better way to bring the message to people than speaking gobbledegook.

I think there is a difference between speaking and speaking out. Does the latter not imply publicising your allegations against those who have wronged you? Meghan's list during her time with the RF is quite long, do the RF probably does want her to keep quiet, not necessarily keep her quiet.

Vanillasky Tue 23-May-23 11:41:51

I’m afraid I think this is true.

The drivel speech reminds me of the 'mission statements' we had to compose on weekend courses when I was teaching. I recall one Sunday afternoon when we had really had enough, so when asked to produce one the group simply strung all the current buzz phrases into an unwieldy paragraph. We were commended by the course leader for being extremely relevant.
I think he had had enough too.

Actually Glorianny her work with the UN etc isn’t nearly as great as she and you would have us believe. It’s been looked into and it was more to do with raising her profile than any advocacy for human rights.

I wonder who looked into it tickingbird not someone who wanted to make sure she was just castigated in the UK surely??

DH taught our youngest to say Rimski Korsakov whenever anybody asked her her name. She was under two! 😂

Small children love to pick up random words and phrases from adults even if they don’t know what they mean and even better if it grabs attention.

I LOVE this Merlot Gran!

Happy days!

I have heard this too. Most of the claims made about her have been looked into and debunked. Try reading Tom Bower’s book about Meghan. He is known for his accuracy as he insists on gathering evidence from at least two witnesses. My son’s got his book about Boris Johnson. I intend to read that too.

Seems to happen to me a bit too when what I say isn't what I meant to say....... 🤪

But actually thinking about this what is wrong with her advancing her career and perhaps choosing to enter politics? She wouldn't be the first actor to do so. She might be the first woman actor. Which actually is good news surely. Speaking out for women, supporting them and promoting opinions which highlight women's issues and equality has to be a good thing doesn't it. Or are some people still not really as feminist as they like to think and is an ambitious, beautiful young woman speaking out a bit much for them?

As for Tom Bowers book. There were reports that it was taken off the shelves in the US and Canada One of the reasons being this letter contradicting his claims about an interview

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 23-May-23 15:40:30

I don't normally get involved in H&M threads ( although I do shop there occasionally !) but I do agree that the speech quoted is very odd and seems to be a lot of words strung together meaning nothing. I would describe it as Balderdash.
I don't know how much good each of these people do, so do not want to comment on that, merely that if a student had written this ( when I was teaching undergraduates)I would have underlined this and asked him/her/ them to explain and rewrite.

The couple have no wish to live their life in peace, they want
Lights, camera, action.

The couple want to live their life their way.

Without press intrusion. They don't want the lights, camera, action, unless it's in a controlled way - such as the Netflix series.

Not while being driven home.
Not while staying at friends.
Not while being at home with family.

Anniebach Tue 23-May-23 16:45:21

The couple nearing 40 are in for a shock, no one gets to live their lives completely their own way.
