This is on the BBC news. The police have said there were many traffic violations such as photographing while driving , running red lights and using a phone. Luckily nobody was hurt.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 17-May-23 17:02:48

There’s bound to be someone he can sue.

MerylStreep Wed 17-May-23 17:07:41

At least Harry has his own footage. There is film of him using his phone to film while in the back of the taxi.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 17-May-23 17:11:06

He can’t have been too traumatised then.

fancythat Wed 17-May-23 17:11:15

Try as I might, I can no longer muster much emotion for the day to day lives of this pair.
I am out of sympathy or something.
Attention and drama seems to drive their money making. So they will try and make hay from this, and other things, in one way or another.

I can't imagine how I would feel if this were my own son and DIL reading what people think of them

Obviously, apart from Meghan's mum to neither can their actual family members... Or they might have a better relationship

Curlywhirly Wed 17-May-23 17:12:43

After all the shenanigans with these two, I don't have a very high opinion of them - but, like Monica, in this instance I do feel sorry for them. One of the reasons they left England was to get away from the Paparazzi, seems the US also have intrusive Paparazzi too ( of course they do!) and Harry must have been triggered by the car chase. However, if they truly want the media to ignore them, they really need to lower their profile, stop public appearances and live a much more private life.

Smileless2012 Wed 17-May-23 17:18:02

Yes they do Curlywhirly and wasn't living a much more private life what they were seeking.

He can't have been too traumatised then doesn't look like ir if he was able to film the 'chase' on his 'phone GSM.

I always thought the idea was that if paps want pics they will get pics whatever you do avoid it, and the best strategy is always to take control of the situation, allow them the pics and lay down the conditions including a time limit. It's certainly not worth risking your life, by for example driving like a lunatic on the Périphérique (most dangerous road in Europe) or FDR Drive, to avoid having an unflattering photo taken. Especially when you've spent your adult life openly courting the paps and tipping them off where you'd be.

One thing I've never understood – what were Harry's mum and her squeeze of the moment doing careering around Paris at 3am on a Sunday morning with an intoxicated driver? They had the privacy of their suite at the Ritz, courtesy of old man Fayed. Do we know where they were going? Was it to somewhere they were inevitably going to be photographed when they got there?

Patsy70 Wed 17-May-23 17:21:22

Ok, I don’t know the details, but find it hard to understand how this ‘near catastrophic car chase’ over two hours took place in Manhattan, where traffic is so slow all day! Why didn’t their car just stop in a safe place, so avoiding a potential accident?

Smileless2012 Wed 17-May-23 17:22:42

confused this thread is about H & M not Diana.

Smileless2012 Wed 17-May-23 17:25:05

'near catastrophic car chase' is newsworthy. Being slowly followed in slow moving traffic doesn't have the same affect Patsy.

volver3 Wed 17-May-23 17:25:19

Like the rest of you I don't know the details of this and how it happened.

But despite what many of you think, they've never said they want to disappear and to suggest that they bring this on themselves, and should just withdraw from the public eye, is just supporting bullying and possibly even violence.

Do your worst, Grans. Nothing surprises me any more.

I was once threatened by an aggressive man, I made notes of what was said, and organised someone to observe what was happening, people can function whilst scared.

merlotgran Wed 17-May-23 17:29:48

One of the reasons they left England was to get away from the Paparazzi

Were they troubled by paps while in the UK?

I must have missed that bit.

LRavenscroft Wed 17-May-23 17:33:18

It must have been very frightening for them, especially since Megan is experiencing the vile side of gutter photographers. Harry must have had some deja vue while it was happening. You just don't know how it is going to end and you hope it will end with everyone safe.

CanadianGran Wed 17-May-23 17:35:07

Hmmm, my initial thoughts: it could only be British paparazzi, because American public really doesn't care that much about them. And a two-hour chase? Where on earth were they going, and why didn't the driver just ignore the pp?

Also, if you are a celeb and attending a banquet, hire a limo with dark windows, don't call a taxi. This just seems odd to me.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 17-May-23 17:39:20

Paparazzi only want photos. They’re not trying to shoot you other than with a camera. If you’re a ‘celebrity’ it’s going to happen, so you either accept it or stop living in the limelight. The RF have the right idea, give the photographers agreed opportunities and the deal is they then leave you alone. What happens in the US, where H has chosen to live, Lord knows. His choice.

They did get into an SUV with an armed policeman.
Then about 12 paps on motorbikes and scooters surrounded them.
Some how they got into a taxi and were taken to the local precinct.

This is on the BBC news. The police have said there were many traffic violations such as photographing while driving , running red lights and using a phone. Luckily nobody was hurt.

Wasn’t it the original spokesperson who said this? I don’t think the NYPD have issued a statement yet. Unless I’ve missed it?

Anniebach Wed 17-May-23 17:44:10

Statement from NYPD, ‘ no one was hurt, no collisions, no arrests

Maggiemaybe Wed 17-May-23 17:44:49

Ah, and this from the BBC:

In a statement, the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed an incident took place and said that numerous photographers "made their [Harry and Meghan's] transport challenging."

Anniebach Wed 17-May-23 17:47:44

Why was no one charged

Whitewavemark2 Wed 17-May-23 17:48:27

Sounds like a storm in a tea cup. No one was hurt thank goodness.

Nothing to see here🙂 I think, but we will see as the story develops.

Namsnanny Wed 17-May-23 17:50:55

NYPD: No reported collision etc.
New York Mayor: I find it hard to believe there could be a 2 hour car chase through New York.

Call me a sceptic if you like but I find it's a bit of a coincidence that Harry is in the middle of several court cases at the moment. One of which is about security.
