Just now

Have just been listening to New York report, on the "Duke & Duchess of Hazzard" claims, wondering if its been staged so " King Pa" will pay for his security. Its all very fishy, and to use his mother in the way he has is disgusting. Scenes from taxi show them and driver relaxed, and no seat belts. Will await official NY PD investigation .

Gagajo
Knowing his mother died while not wearing a seatbelt, wouldn’t you think he’d make his nearest and dearest buckle up.

Anniebach Thu 18-May-23 09:15:06

I am so sorry for William hearing his mother’s death being used by his brother to gain publicity.

Smileless2012 Thu 18-May-23 09:15:20

And that he'd wear a seat belt too Meryl.

Smileless2012 Thu 18-May-23 09:16:13

It's not for the first time is it Annie and unfortunately for William, I don't suppose it will be the last.

It looks pretty scary

They were stationary in that shot!

Glad the US is so safe

So there I am, a celebrity whose mother died in a car crash.

Taking a car home from an event with my wife and MIL Every time we stop at a traffic light or traffic jam, several people appear with video cameras to take our picture, unbidden. So we drive to a police station, get a taxi, but the same thing happens. We're scared to go to where we are meant to be staying in case the photographers follow us there through the slow moving traffic.

But its my brother, thousands of miles away, that you feel sorry for.

Ilovecheese Thu 18-May-23 09:27:15

But Prince William is one of the "good" royals, so he gets the sympathy

maddyone Thu 18-May-23 09:30:09

My theory is that they’ve exaggerated this situation because of Harry’s five, or is it six, well anyway his multiple court cases.
To be honest anyone with a brain can see see that the ends don’t join up. Just read/listen to the various eye witness/mayor of New York/ police statements and put them together and two and two make four.

aggie Thu 18-May-23 09:32:37

I wonder if they had leant back , put on the seat belts and ignored the two cars and man on a bike, would this “hordes of paps “ got bored and gone away ?
A sober driver and seat belts would have changed the scenario, and why did their security team not spring into action ?

volver3 Thu 18-May-23 09:33:10

Just read what actually happened instead of making stuff up and 2 and 2 most certainly make 4.

Not 76, which is what this thread does.

How would you feel if a bloke in casual clothes turned up outside your car in the streets of NY and started filming you?

maddyone Thu 18-May-23 09:35:23

I’d think you must be mad. Why would you want to start filming an old granny?
Because I’m not even a quarter as pretty as Meghan.

aggie Thu 18-May-23 09:36:09

I just waved dismissively and the reporter backed off , admittedly it wasn’t New York , and I’m not as news hungry

Glorianny Thu 18-May-23 09:36:37

Amazing how many inaccuracies are being posted on this thread. So let's get things clear. The chase took place before the taxi driver was involved. High speed was not mentioned until the Mayor of New York brought it in. M&H had to transfer from their limo to a taxi in order to shake off the paps. One of the agencies who buy photos from the paps claims the paps were not dangerous In those famous words "Well they would wouldn't they".
They were certainly pursued and they had to use a taxi to escape. But of course they deserve all they get don't they.
Of course the increased activity of the paps might be related to the fact that H&M have been doing exactly what GN demanded, staying out of the news, which only makes photos of them more valuable. Can't win can they?

maddyone Thu 18-May-23 09:37:05

However I did listen to the eye witnesses, the Mayor of NYC, and to what the NYC police said. It’s best available evidence.

Omid Scobie was on the news this morning.

How you have changed maddyone. 😥

maddyone Thu 18-May-23 09:39:44

The police chief of NYC said these ‘circumstances were challenging, but there’s a great difference between challenging and a catastrophic chase.’ Not my words, the chief of police in NYC.

Anniebach Thu 18-May-23 09:40:04

Harry and Megan have been staying out of the news !

GrannyGravy13 Thu 18-May-23 09:40:07

There are 100’s of famous/infamous people living in NYC they come and go about their daily life without the paparazzi following them. It’s easy not to be seen

It must have been horrible for the three of them, whatever the version of the story. Prince Harry has a deep seated problem with the press, why doesn’t he go out of his way to avoid them?

These venues have multiple entrances I wonder why they chose to leave by the main entrance in full view of the assembled press packs?

maddyone Thu 18-May-23 09:40:35

I I haven’t volver. I was never very pretty 😂

I know it must have been dreadful.
And only one back up SUV with their protection team and escorted at all times by an NYPD police car. - so risky.
Great photo op though.

henetha Thu 18-May-23 09:42:11

If it's true that they were not wearing seat belts then I find that really hard to understand. Where is their common sense?
Apart from that, I have some sympathy for them. It must have been a scary incident.
