Michael Fabricant ( he of the blonde wig) is to be knighted and so is Jacob Rees Mogg. I’m shocked and does anyone know why Nadine Dorries has resigned as an MP with immediate effect?

FannyCornforth Fri 09-Jun-23 17:25:57

You beat me to it T-bird!
And Dame Pritti Patel 🙄

I should imagine she wants to force a by election in revenge for being removed from Johnson’s resignation honours list.

tickingbird Fri 09-Jun-23 17:29:23

Oh I see. Was she on the list then? Any reason she was removed. She was always a fan girl of Boris.

Blossoming Fri 09-Jun-23 17:31:37

She was.

So Nadine has gone off in a huff! I thought Mr Sunak had approved the entire list - but has he, and did the Daily Mail guy get a peerage? Interesting.

I don't care who is on the list - it's a disgrace that Johnson gets to have an 'Honours' list, considering he didn't serve a full term and resigned in disgrace.

As for the a future Truss list... !

Blossoming Fri 09-Jun-23 17:39:25

Stanley Johnson won’t be getting his knighthood either.

Riverwalk Fri 09-Jun-23 17:40:23

Dorries has a majority of 24,000, that will take some overturning!

If she had a smaller majority I'd have said she was resigning to embarrass Sunak with a likely by election loss, but with such a big majority?

Blossoming Fri 09-Jun-23 17:43:19

Win or lose it will still cause unwanted hassle for Sunak.

I keep wondering why these awards and decorations are referred to as "honours". Has there ever been such a disreputable and dissolute government since the fall of the Western Roman Empire? These gongs are a reward for dishonour. If any one of that contemptible bunch ever brushed against me in a crowd, I'd need to shower in disinfectant.

Poor Nadine - she could not have been a mote devoted Boris fan.

The full list is on BBC’s twitter feed so it should be on the website. Dacre doesn’t seem to be on it.

NanaDana Fri 09-Jun-23 18:23:28

Any sentence which contains the words "Honour" and "Boris Johnson" is an oxymoron..

FannyCornforth Fri 09-Jun-23 18:33:21

I do genuinely feel very sorry for Nadine Dorries.
It’s clear that she really believed in Johnson.
Until now.
He is a complete bastard

tickingbird Fri 09-Jun-23 18:36:53

I’ve just read that it wasn’t Boris that took her name off but Rishi!

kittylester Fri 09-Jun-23 18:56:22

I just read that Rishi didn't change anything.

JRM must be disappointed. Surely nothing less than a Dukedom would suffice for a man of his stature - or possibly Pope? grin

sodapop Fri 09-Jun-23 19:19:47

Bit of an oxymoron isn't it it Johnson's honours ?

He should have been made a nabob, then he’d be Nabob Jacob.

I want to know why Jacinda Ardern, the Lock down Queen of NZ gets a Damehod. . Authoritarianism at its worst. To boot she's a Republican .

absent Fri 09-Jun-23 20:19:13

Freya5 I think that New Zealand's approach to Covid 19 was, by and large, successful. Yes, it was disruptive but then so is a pandemic. As for being a republican, remember this is the twenty-first century and New Zealand is no longer a colony.

Daisymae Fri 09-Jun-23 20:31:04

Well the by election will be interesting. As for the so called honours list, seriously they should be ashamed

Whitewavemark2 Fri 09-Jun-23 20:38:06

So can a former disgraced PM still give out gongs?

Doesn’t seem right to me.

Casdon Fri 09-Jun-23 20:43:30

Just saw that Boris’ dog walker, and hairdresser have received honours.
