You can't blame it all on Rishie Sunak.

toscalily Wed 28-Jun-23 15:44:56

Did you mean our current PM or the previous one or the one before that?

sassysaysso Wed 28-Jun-23 15:48:15

toscalily

You can't blame it all on Rishie Sunak.

Exactly. Cameron, May, Johnson, the reckless Truss, all are culpable.

toscalily Wed 28-Jun-23 15:53:15

I did not know how far back to go sassysaysso grin

The huge expense of covid and the support packages put in place.

The knock on effects of covid, people leaving the workforce and more benefits being paid.

The war in Ukraine, its effects on prices of fuel, foodstuffs and raw materials and the UK’s contributions to support Ukraine.

The cost of processing, housing and feeding migrants and giving them medical care and ‘spending money’.

The cost of living support which has been given in cash and fuel assistance.

All these things and more, but it’s enough to be going on with.

Foxygloves Wed 28-Jun-23 16:40:21

What a pity we weren’t out when he delivered and he didn’t leave it with a neighbour instead
France? Belgium? 😏

The man’s a dynamo- all this since October 2022 - got to be a world record.

Grantanow Thu 29-Jun-23 11:29:10

I suppose he has delivered us from Truss!

WonderBra Thu 29-Jun-23 11:55:03

Definitely 'world beating'
And clearly doesn't care.

Oh, and GSM - you forgot Brexit

ronib Thu 29-Jun-23 11:58:35

WonderBra it doesn’t pay to care. The best results come from not caring. Why not wait and see? Not that we have any choice ….

HousePlantQueen Thu 29-Jun-23 12:04:24

Sigh. The facts are there for those who wish to find them, those who choose to believe what their masters tell them will continue to do so. Anyone who truly thinks that the state of the NHS is down to a few thousand desperate people on boats, and not down to the deliberate austerity imposed by Cameron and his pal Osborne really needs to do a bit more research.

The economy is in a dreadful state, further worsened by covid and the Ukraine crisis that is true, but we were so badly prepared when covid hit due to the Cameron years, and their decision to ignore Operation Cygnus.

Dynawritecat Thu 29-Jun-23 12:05:03

Yes and now look at Thames Water. Privatisation of essential facilities should never have happened.

Applegran Thu 29-Jun-23 12:11:31

I wonder what would happen if they could privatise air? (only joking.......)

MibsXX Thu 29-Jun-23 12:20:09

@Germanshepherdsmum

Let's not forget the dodgy PPI deals to the MP's mates that never materialised, the huge legal bills we paid for as Boris was so poor he could only afford a 2.5M house, poor thing, and I too have lost count, how many PM's in this ages ago elected gov now have a yearly cash payout just for being PM's once?

HousePlantQueen Thu 29-Jun-23 12:22:09

Anyone seen Michelle Mone lately? Now that is a person on a boat that people should be angry about, not a few desperate Libyans.

MibsXX Thu 29-Jun-23 12:22:29

@applegran

They have privatised air haven't they? All these green taxes................................

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 29-Jun-23 12:28:08

Mibs, Boris’s legal bills were paid because the client was actually the Cabinet Office, not Boris. And no, I’m not a Boris apologist.

There was a desperate need for PPI in the early part of the pandemic and it was obtained from many sources. I think there’s a touch of the broad brush when talking of dodgy deals with mates, little detail offered.

I have just posted on another thread but cant resist stating the same on here, I seem to be in a minority of one in thinking that Boris is truly inspirational, a great leader, got Brexit done. I personally dread Starmer getting into power.

orly Thu 29-Jun-23 12:43:23

Are there any Grans who aren't happy to see interest rates rising on their savings? I'm delighted and don't feign false altruism for those who have overstretched themselves on their mortgages - it was much worse 30 or so years ago

Same here BevSec

I think Boris had the power to motivate and inspire. However he was too much of a libertarian, didn’t care for rules and didn’t do detail. I wasn’t happy to see him made leader. As I voted to remain I wasn’t happy he got Brexit done either, nor how he achieved it.
