BREAKING: Campaigners and asylum seekers have won a Court of Appeal challenge over the Government’s planned Rwanda deportation scheme.

Well at least that will save £169000 per person transported for the time.

Off to Supreme Court now I guess.

Why are people not up in arms about the fact that these people are not being processed fast enough so they can do what they want to do which is get a job and support our economy? That’s the main problem which is constantly being pointed out by Yvette Cooper. The money being spent on Rwanda could help alleviate this problem. But that doesn’t make for good juicy tabloid headlines, does it.

Gloryianny
Hundreds have landed on beaches around the Dungeness area.
Non are documented they are picked up by vans waiting for them.
Told to me by a retired harbour master at Dover.

Well, I and others on here do keep saying that but no-one in the Government seems to be reading Gransnet.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 01-Jul-23 13:26:19

They already do that Glorianny. Plenty of boats land on deserted beaches and the people are frequently found wandering around by the police.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 01-Jul-23 13:32:19

MayBee, how easy is it to process people who don’t speak English and have destroyed their papers? Do you have evidence that they all want to get jobs and support our economy? Some, yes, as Iam has found. I very much doubt all do. The bunch of people who had landed on a beach not far from me and found their way to the local police station where they were chanting‘Benefits, benefits’ - I have my doubts.

Do you have evidence that they don’t? How about giving them a chance?

What stupid government thought it was a good idea to not process asylum seekers applications for over five years, forcing the only solution of housing a backlog over 70,000 of them in hotels in seaside towns I wonder?

CvD66 Sat 01-Jul-23 16:31:56

Nicenanny3 - while any rape is a disaster, how about getting recognising that the existing population committed 193,555 sexual offences in 2022! Not to mention the Met police’s offences of course!

westendgirl Sat 01-Jul-23 16:42:51

There are interpreters .
I think that sometimes people forget that some of these asylum seekers are well educated ,were in white collar posts and do speak English as well as other languages.

Quite right gsm. Nigh on impossible to process I’d say. By destroying all their paperwork and passports they could quite literally be anybody and that is very worrying. Some of them claim to be doctors etc but we have no proof of that.

😄😄😄 walking past the police station were you?

Honestly there is some rubbish posted.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 01-Jul-23 17:02:01

When you lose your mobile you tend to go to the police station to report it/see if it’s been handed in don’t you? Well I do. Not rubbish at all. You may not like it, but it happened. And oddly enough my decorator had previously told me he had had exactly the same experience. I have no reason to doubt him, nor do you have reason to me.

Quite right. So we don't want any more do we?

Unfortunately some men arriving on boats are from cultures which consider white women are whores and have no respect for us. Note I said some, not all. And of course such people don’t always arrive on boats and some were born here to parents from such cultures.

So what do you want to happen. Get rid of everyone that isn’t part of the right culture? This almost smacks of rivers of blood rhetoric sad

I agree.

Why agree with something that has already been explained to you! How would YOU process a person with no ID, no papers, no passport, who you know absolutely nothing about. You don’t know their age, their nationality, whether they have a criminal background, whether they have any diseases, etc etc. Where would YOU start?

Leaving the EU has caused a much greater problem with identification than the UK had previously, as the Home Office staff no longer have access to the Eurodac database. That captures the fingerprints, identity and originating country of any asylum seeker in all EU countries plus three other European countries, but not the UK. Cutting our noses off to spite our faces.

I’d start, as Assessing staff do, and have done for many years, by acting in accordance with the almost 100 page guidance (now two Guidances, one for pre-2022 applications, one for 2022 and years ff) for processing asylum claims, which explains in detail the stringent tests and benchmarks for plausibility and credibility for undocumented (and indeed for documented) asylum seekers.

I have no idea why some people don’t seem to understand that this is not a new issue, or that there are processes and systems, as well as is considerable experience and expertise in the government both within the UK relevant overseas departments, in dealing with it.

Did you report the asylum seekers chanting “benefits, benefits” to the police when you were asking about a list mobile phone?

Yes and bordering on racist rhetoric.

Which cultures would they be then?
