When will it stop?
A boy has been arrested by police investigating reports of serious sexual assaults in a gender neutral toilet at a school.
We don’t know if he sexually assaulted a boy or a girl (some schools have banned the use of those terms). Probably assault on a girl, because he could have assaulted boys in single sex toilets.

I used to have heavy periods when I was at school and hence could be in there ages. It's an awful thought that girls now have no safe space at school.

Salti Fri 30-Jun-23 14:53:09

I also had heavy periods and some "accidents" at school. I don't think I'd have gone to school at times if there hadn't been a private girls only space to sort things out.

Why would a school need gender neutral loos?

Shelflife Fri 30-Jun-23 15:03:12

Bizzare!! Our leisure centre now has gender neutral toilets, when I have used them some bloke has usually left the toilet seat up 😡😡! I could accept some gender neutral toilets as long as there were also a ladies and a gents - although not ' allowed ' to use those terms now!! I am fully aware of the trans situation and have full acceptance of the dilemma some people are in . However ..... this is all going too far now!!!!

Well they don’t really do they? We seem to be getting a lots of things we don’t need nowadays and losing things that we do need.
Having said that I did use a gender neutral loo attached to the restaurant at the theatre. Not a problem. The doors and walls between the cubicles were solid and up to the ceiling. Most importantly the loos are close to the restaurant and are only used when the restaurant is open.

Where is the duty of care in a school when a decision is made to have gender neutral toilets? I do wonder if parents were consulted about this, and why the privacy needs of girls have been ignored. Last week a child was evidently told that she was 'despicable' by a teacher for not understanding why a classmate was identifying as a cat. Our vulnerable young people must be in a state of total confusion with the bizarre and increasing demands of the few.

Why would a school need gender neutral loos?

My dil asked that question when her son started senior school and was told "it's because we don't just have boys and girls at this school"

I like toilets linked to gender but for some reason it does not bother me if there is a disabled toilet which is not gender specific.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 30-Jun-23 15:25:55

Blimey eddie. Perhaps they have cats too.

Hmmmm! Probably

A sex offender will find the opportunity elsewhere if a unisex toilet is not available, it is not the toilet that causes the offence.

The school in question also has gender specific toilets, there has to be unisex available for those that need them.

Been on holiday in Europe and most of the restaurants have gender neutral toilets and they seem to be accepted and work well. Why is it we have such a problem with them in this country and don't consider others when using them.

Smileless2012 Fri 30-Jun-23 16:11:50

Why is it we have such a problem with them in this country and don't consider others when using them perhaps the incident in the OP may explain why there's a problem in this country Jackiest.

The second part of your sentence explains the first.
The OP popped up in my newsfeed. What has apparently happened explains why we have a problem with them. I’ll wait for confirmation, but seems probable that a female was a victim of a male. AGAIN!

Smileless2012 Fri 30-Jun-23 16:16:06

The only gender neutral toilets I've ever used were for single occupancy. Am I wrong in thinking that they all are?

I found the bloke in the loo before me had totally wet the seat, so be thankful when it’s left up I’d say! Maybe he thought it clever or had poor eyesight. I thought he was like a dog marking his territory- a loo!
I first came across unisex toilets in York many many years ago and think if we have to have them it’s vital to think about where they are located. The ones in York were immediately off the main area so you could see when they were being used. But then you have the problem of smells so good extraction fans are a must. Plus then if you do need to spend longer you could feel self conscious like people are aware how long you’ve been in it.
When will it stop - never because it’s not being addressed properly, other matters are given much more effort instead.

Do you mean single cubicles? The adult toilets at my school are single rooms with full walls and doors. Our staff are all DBS checked , but more importantly are aware that they’d lose their job/career if they were found guilty (or even accused) of sexual misbehaviour.
If they labelled the children’s toilets gender neutral some-currently boys, would have urinals and one cubicle (gap top and bottom) and some-currently girls, would have cubicles (gap top and bottom). The LEA wouldn’t even fund extra toilets when our numbers went up, so I’m not sure if they’d fund changing the toilets.

Lathyrus Fri 30-Jun-23 16:41:02

Gender neutral toilets in schools are generally some of what used to be the girls toilets relabelled because of the urinal problem.

This means that solely female toilets are in short supply, often quite a distance from some classrooms so that girls have no choice but to use the gender neutral which males can also use -and linger in without challenge.

Why would a school need gender neutral loos?

Because the transgender lobby, unfortunately, have a hold on our schools. Remember those vile teachers villifying the two students. This needs to be stopped .Now.

Shelflife Fri 30-Jun-23 16:45:28

Lollin , you have a point there! Perhaps I should be grateful..... I'm not though!!

Grammaretto Fri 30-Jun-23 16:52:43

I wish we had public toilets in my town and I wish they weren't vandalised when there are some in other places
.

Smileless2012 Fri 30-Jun-23 17:18:37

No not single cubicles Mollygo single rooms. IMO if schools are going to provide gender neutral facilities they should be single rooms, not several separate cubicles in one room.

I don't know the details of the subject of the OP but surely this could only have happened because there were several cubicles in one room.

It does need to be stopped Freya unless all gender neutral toilets in all schools are single rooms, other wise it's asking for trouble isn't it angry.

Not rocket science surely.

Smileless2012 Fri 30-Jun-23 17:20:09

If any LEA wont provide funding for safe gender neutral toilets Molly ie single rooms, then they shouldn't provide any at all.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 30-Jun-23 17:33:13

Yes Freya, it does need to stop now.
