Youngest life peer sworn in yesterday.
This still amazes me.
And why don't we know anything about her?

Also, does this mean she lives in Alderly Edge or was born there, or her family is from there?
I love Alderly Edge!

Also, know Peers are often (always?) "of" somewhere but how is this decided?

Have looked her up but not much joy. Her parents married in 1975 in the Macclesfield district. Her mother, Kathryn L, was born in 1952 so must have been around 40 when her daughter was born.

I can't see BoJo bonking a 40-year old woman (daughter born 1993). She must have got him out of some scrape with the truth (G-d knows he had enough of them) so he repaid her help that way.

According to Wiki her 'career' seemed to consist of a month here, two months there, all intern-type roles - whatever qualifies her to be described as a Special Adviser?

On what did she advise and what qualities and experience does she bring to the House of Lords?

A wilful act on Johnson's part, a sort of two fingers up to the political system that got rid of him.

The 25 year-old new Labour MP will be subject to future elections and if he's no good his constituents can vote him out in the coming years.

This inexperienced young woman could be sitting in an arm of our Legislature, with all the privileges that brings, for the next 60 years without answering to anybody.

Ludicrous!

Yes , but the H of L is not elected. Any how they choose to obstruct, can be, and is, ignored.

They can't completely block a bill, but if it concerns something that wasn't in the manifesto the Lords can hold it up for up to 12 months.

So she’s supposed to be Johnson’s daughter ? Is this one of the eight we ve heard about or an additional one ?

It's just one of many rumours brought about by the surname and facial resemblance. Another is that he's slept with her.

Of course, if there weren't a super injunction probably in place we might know a bit more about her.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Jul-23 16:15:05

Does no one know why there is a super-injunction?

I mean, she is just an ordinary young woman who worked in No 10 just like thousands before her, and got a seat in HoL, unlike thousands before her. And yet all information about her has been stopped. Why? Is it so scandalous that we can’t possibly know? Surely we are entitled to know the background of our Lords. Nothing can be as bad as someone like Lebedev surely!!

The title doesn’t necessarily reflect their birthplace. Michelle Mone, renowned for her successful lingerie business and allegedly making a £65 million profit from dud covid PPE , was born in the east end of Glasgow. She is now Baroness Mone of Mayfair. You couldn’t make it up.

Baroness Mone of The Gorbals doesn’t have quite the same ring hmm

Callistemon21 Tue 25-Jul-23 14:14:51

We had a friend who, throughout his career, carried out many acts of bravery and, as a consequence, saved many lives.
He was proud to have been awarded the BEM.

Goodness knows what he would have thought of the recent honours.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Jul-23 13:29:37

So why the super-injunction?

Should be easy to find her birth certificate and see if that "father" is the same as posted above .Surely if its true he cant just hand out honours to his kids?

I don't think it is true. The surname being that of his ex-wife and her resemblance to Johnson are just mere coincidence...

OTOH, he gave a peerage to his brother, so why not to a child?

Ilovecheese Tue 25-Jul-23 12:26:13

Seen on twitter:
"my thoughts are with Nadine at this difficult time"

FannyCornforth Tue 25-Jul-23 12:23:31

God, it’s sickening isn’t it.

I dread to think how Nadine Dorries is feeling.

It would not surprise me at all if Johnson is doing it on purpose to show off.

I see that she also worked for Osbourne.
He is a right one with the ladies too…

FannyCornforth Tue 25-Jul-23 12:19:07

Does she live in Mayfair?

I think that is like The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire living in Derbyshire for centuries.
I don’t think that the title has any bearing on anything much

- MayBee70 and Myth and Legend too.

MayBee70 Tue 25-Jul-23 11:54:05

When I lived in Manchester I was told that Alderley Edge was famous for it’s links to witchcraft…hmm

MaizieD Tue 25-Jul-23 11:48:10

P.S Though I strongly disapprove of Owen's ennoblement, and of the young man who was also ennobled by Johnson, we have to recognise that at present the heir to a hereditary peerage might well be entitled to sit in the Lords at an equally young age.

MaizieD Tue 25-Jul-23 11:44:11

I think we should have a mixed system, with some elected members and some nominated, as at present.

Looking at the quality of our elected MPs I think it would be foolish to depend on the electorate to always make wise and informed choices. I think that some very worthwhile people might be passed over because they don't have electoral appeal.

I would place conditions on political nominees, though. Restrict the number of peerages which can be nominated at any one time, put a lower age limit on nominees and require that they have a credible history of distinguished service to the UK.

I'd do away with the hereditaries altogether unless they were prepared to permanently renounce their peerages (i.e make them non inheritable) and also had a record of distinguished service.

I think we know why she is there.

Yes.

The House of Lords and all the ‘honours’ system should be abolished in my opinion
I agree maddyone

I am not against having a constitutional monarchy as the monarch does not hold power as they did centuries ago.
However, we should have an elected Upper House not an overloaded skewed system where each outgoing PM tries to ensure that their cronies still control our legislature.

Maybe?
Who knows. It may be true but not official?

foxie48 Tue 25-Jul-23 09:50:18

Nothing would surprise me! However, there is absolutely no good reason why this young and inexperienced woman should be given a peerage and both BJ's and LT's nominations are an abomination. It's well past the time when we should abolish this ridiculous system of political patronage.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 25-Jul-23 09:17:12

I assume that this is a fake
