‘Grandad’s Pride’. Really?

More like ‘smut under the radar’ hoping to make this acceptable (inclusive?) behaviour. Yuk.

A PRIDE children’s book featuring men in bondage gear was shown to four-year-olds in pre-school, it has emerged.

Parents had raised concerns with staff at Genesis Pre School, in Hull, East Yorkshire, after it was brought to their attention that children were being exposed to the images.

A staff member had checked with parents of the nursery pupils if they were happy with the contents of the book Grandad’s Pride by Harry Woodgate to be shown to their children, but one flagged images of “partially naked” men in “leather bondage gear” as concerning.

A member of staff then defended the images, arguing that children wouldn’t understand the erotic and sexualised depictions.

What are your thoughts on this book?

Anyway, ready to go on our picnic, not often all 7 of us have a day out, will sit on our rainbow blanket and have a chat about how it is good to be inclusive in a diverse family

Pathetic.

Sex, in any form, was not on the dinner table I suppose that’s because you’d have had to clear the cutlery and plates first to make a space for it DiamondLily!
🤣

My daughter's got a rainbow picnic blanket, but she got it, during Covid, as people were knitting them and making things like that for NHS staff.😗. I think their flag was rainbow?

It's not a political statement - if we go for a picnic, all that's discussed is "have we bought enough wine" and who's hid the corkscrew lol

I must lead a sheltered life....😳

Oh, really, DiamondLily, did you not get the memo?! When one goes on a picnic, on a rainbow blanket, with one’s family, then it is important to discuss amongst you how diverse and inclusive a group you are. grin

I'm more puzzled by the stupid school's response, something along the lines that children don't know what eroticism is anyway.
So why waste valuable teaching time exploring a story with those very connotations?

Oh Joseann couldn't agree with you more, the school's response utterly perplexing confused erotica and four year old's shock what were they thinking, who makes these judgements ? only to back track when such material is put under scrutiny, they obviously thought it was alright initially. Why would parents entrust their very young children to be inculcated by fools people who espouse the very inappropriate. I seem to remember when my children were at school back in the nineties and noughties, parents were occasionally invited to meetings when certain controversial subject matter would be introduced into the lessons covering sex, drugs and the like, ostensibly to raise any questions they might have. I don't think I am misremembering in saying that there didn't seem to be this evasiveness that the current crop of parents feel surrounding some of what is being taught now, but that was long before unelected third parties were brought in to shape the curriculum on such matters.

Corkscrew?

I howl in despair if I find myself staring at a bottle of wine with a cork these days!

😂😂

When we last had a picnic we played Duck Duck Goose - and no, that's not a euphemism

Not in my world. If I'm sitting, having a picnic, in the sun, with my loved ones, I just want a happy day - not serious discussion.

And none of us wear bondage gear - I don't think the worlds ready for me in a rubber suit lol 😬😳

I hate picnics now, if I sat down on a rainbow blanket I would have to roll over to get up again and still need a hand.
Also wasps attack my jam donut and any wine or cider gets knocked over.We are inclusive of my DD’s dog tho and very grateful he is eating the leftovers.

I have to have a chair now Oreo, and preferably a table too!
No more blanket on the ground for me these days 😃

Doodledog Fri 25-Aug-23 15:20:54

Self-referential discussions about one's own inclusivity sound comical enough, but having them on a rainbow blanket (the better to signal the family virtue to the world at large) sounds like something out of a bad sitcom grin.
