‘Grandad’s Pride’. Really?

More like ‘smut under the radar’ hoping to make this acceptable (inclusive?) behaviour. Yuk.

A PRIDE children’s book featuring men in bondage gear was shown to four-year-olds in pre-school, it has emerged.

Parents had raised concerns with staff at Genesis Pre School, in Hull, East Yorkshire, after it was brought to their attention that children were being exposed to the images.

A staff member had checked with parents of the nursery pupils if they were happy with the contents of the book Grandad’s Pride by Harry Woodgate to be shown to their children, but one flagged images of “partially naked” men in “leather bondage gear” as concerning.

A member of staff then defended the images, arguing that children wouldn’t understand the erotic and sexualised depictions.

What are your thoughts on this book?

My daughter's got a rainbow picnic blanket, but she got it, during Covid, as people were knitting them and making things like that for NHS staff.😗. I think their flag was rainbow?

It's not a political statement - if we go for a picnic, all that's discussed is "have we bought enough wine" and who's hid the corkscrew lol

I must lead a sheltered life....😳

Oh, really, DiamondLily, did you not get the memo?! When one goes on a picnic, on a rainbow blanket, with one’s family, then it is important to discuss amongst you how diverse and inclusive a group you are. grin

Not in my world. If I'm sitting, having a picnic, in the sun, with my loved ones, I just want a happy day - not serious discussion.

And none of us wear bondage gear - I don't think the worlds ready for me in a rubber suit lol 😬😳

I trust you realise I was being sarcastic…..

Yes, I did. 😉

Apparently it is alright for everyone else to chat and not me

So I am just talking to myself

Had a lovely day, walked 4 miles around a lake, pretty sure the rest of the family did twice that

DiamondLily Fri 25-Aug-23 15:58:22

I do not like closed toilets and being forced to go for a wild wee

Don't go wild camping then lol Not sure what that's got to do with diversity and rainbow blankets, but, as the mum of a former scout leader, just don't go wild camping.

That not only involves wild wees, it also involves digging holes for the serious stuff..😳

Well, I have just chatted about wild camping. The thread has turned pretty light hearted, which is nice. Glad you enjoyed your walk. 🙂

I hate picnics now, if I sat down on a rainbow blanket I would have to roll over to get up again and still need a hand.
Also wasps attack my jam donut and any wine or cider gets knocked over.We are inclusive of my DD’s dog tho and very grateful he is eating the leftovers.

I have to have a chair now Oreo, and preferably a table too!
No more blanket on the ground for me these days 😃

No more Billy Jo Spears song inspiration for you then....😉

Ooh, you are awful but then I should have known that 😁
I got taken to Diamond Lil's once years ago!

When my family goes on a picnic we like to sit on a dull grey serge blanket, we eat only vegan foods and lentils and we like to discuss much loftier and worthier subjects than just our diversity! We discuss European politics, how the £ compares to the € and whether any other passing families have noticed our ridiculous virtue signalling. Obviously we try to engage in other picnicking families into our socially responsible and ethically diverse idea of having fun but they seem to think that we're tragic bores. Only then do we don our stout walking boots and go for a 15 mile hike! We know how to have fun!

You would always be welcome, but please note I don't wear bondage gear now....not only would I frighten the horses, I'd bloody terrify the neighbours.,lol 😉

Oh, you spoil your family! We always sit on the grass, even if it’s raining. We bring dry bread and water, to show to passers by that we are not concerned with our dietary needs, but rather that we are there to discuss the meaning of life and all those diverse persons within it. Obviously we always go for a walk - about 10 miles, barefoot of course.

VioletSky Fri 25-Aug-23 16:29:39

I'm afraid the main thing that came up in conversation today was "Watch out for the dog poo!"

VioletSky Fri 25-Aug-23 16:30:16

We did see many diverse dogs which were cute

IClaudius Fri 25-Aug-23 16:40:46

Hmmm Staceyann I can see that you're an ethically, socially and morally responsible family and you sound like heaps of fun. Maybe our families could meet up for jamboree? We would have a whale of a time discussing societal inequalities, world politics and which one of us was the biggest woke bore, whilst eating your stale bread and knitting lentils. Do say you'll come! It'll be a blast!

Hmmm...I'm afraid I only do wine, hopefully joined by French cheese and breadsticks, (which probably is diverse), but, unfortunately, I don't do serious, and I only do nice days.

But, perhaps we could have a jamboree of those that drink wine, eat normal stuff, can't do blankets on the ground, and just want to have a laugh lol 😉

Don't do boring and too intense. ,,🙄

Smileless2012 Fri 25-Aug-23 17:06:45

That sounds just like my cup of tea brew DL. Well if the cheese is French and the wine isn't I'd say that's pretty diverse and inclusive of you.

IClaudius Fri 25-Aug-23 17:19:56

Well, I'm far more diverse, inclusive and ethically responsible than any of you! And it's for that reason that I don't drink wine. I don't want it on my conscience that my grapes could possibly have been trodden on by some poor lederhosen wearing soul, who doesn't know whether they're a he or she and, when they're asked if they take Pride in their work, bursts into tears! No! Only ethically sourced ditch water for me!

Smileless2012 Fri 25-Aug-23 17:27:36

Well that's me out of your jamboree IClaudius. I have to draw the line at no wine and drinking ditch water I'm afraid.

Ailidh Fri 25-Aug-23 17:30:08

I had a picnic on Sunday evening as part of an outdoor theatre event.
I have not been able to wear trousers since.
Mosquito bites.

IClaudius Fri 25-Aug-23 17:40:16

Not to worry Ailidh. If you can't wear trousers, I know of a few grandads who won't be using these any more. You can have them!

VioletSky Fri 25-Aug-23 17:40:37

I had a couple of horse fly bites this year that took over my whole leg

So much bitey stuff around this year

Galaxy Fri 25-Aug-23 17:42:13

Do dogs get insect bites like we do?

VioletSky Fri 25-Aug-23 17:43:44

Yes they do

Haha! Love it!

Unfortunately, I'd look more like Molly Sugden than Wendy Richards in Lederhosen.....
😁

Galaxy Fri 25-Aug-23 17:47:58

I have only had my dog for a year but I have never seen any bites. I am covered with them this summer.

Smileless2012 Fri 25-Aug-23 17:58:47

Our dogs haven't been bitten either Galaxy despite us having all been out together.

You drink German wine??`!😳

God I thought that Liebfraumilch and hock died a thankful death in the 70's..🥴🥴

No, no....a decent Pinot Grigio (or a decent red), or maybe a Prosecco is all that's acceptable lol

I'm very diverse. But it doesn't go as far as drinking German wine...🤮

Of course, for any blanket on the ground occasions, (but only if accompanied by the Billy Jo Spears record), and preferably after dark, chilled Champagne fits the bill admirably,🍾🥂🥂
