The latest “horror” from Braverman

A scheme to waive visas in order that the HO could employ “foreign workers” on the notorious barge if in the event of an outbreak of an infectious disease, has been considered.

It is expected that because of the overcrowded conditions there is almost certainly to be an infectious outbreak such as scabies, diphtheria, covid and other horrors.

It is understood that the local authority would be totally unable to handle the inevitable outbreak.

However, the HO has decided to at present not go ahead with the scheme.

In my view it is our mess and we should deal with it, not drag in immigrant workers, to be infected and no doubt then sent home.

Time Braverman was moved from post, but she is a political appointment for the right wing. Shame Sunak doesn't stand up to them.

Overcrowded conditions? That’s a laugh 😂 there’s nobody on it.
Some foreign workers from countries the migrants come from could be a good idea as they know the language.
I doubt the barge will ever be fully used.

An SNP MP thinks asylum seekers shouldn't be made to share a room 😂another one in cuckoo land.

Great idea for the ones who don't speak English if its true 🤔 why spoil a good story with the facts. I personally like Suella Braverman she gets a thumbs up from me 👍

The dreaded ERG still holds many strings, even if they seem to have gone underground and morphed into another Group.

What have they got that makes them so powerful and secretive. We know of some MPs and Ministers who are ERG, like Braverman- but we don't know about many others. How can a secret group be funded by us- and we have no right to know who they are???

Fleurpepper Wed 23-Aug-23 15:55:14

Excruciating, and so so wrong

Conspiracy theories 😊

westendgirl Wed 23-Aug-23 16:10:48

Just wondering why you like her, Nicenanny?
I think she was appointed for one reason only (see above )and feel she is well out of depth. I could never see how she managed to get the post of Attorney General.

westendgirl Wed 23-Aug-23 16:19:38

Looking at the ERG does anyone know why they act like a secret society when they are funded by the taxpayer.

Well, Johnson wouldn’t have wanted an Attorney General with the integrity of Dominic Grieve, would he!

The Tories are certainly the Nasty Party again.

HousePlantQueen Wed 23-Aug-23 18:53:46

Braverman is a truly nasty piece of work and although I appreciate we all have differing political views, I just cannot accept that she is doing a good job. To my mind, she is morally bankrupt, and for whatever reason is determined to demonise anyone seeking asylum, but, even if you are of a mind to think she is right (shudder), you have to admit that she has made an absolute hash of everything. Thankfully. Another great idea of hers is to 'welcome' the wives and children of the shamefully small handful of Afghanistan refugees which have been given sanctuary, but in order to qualify for the spouse visa, they have to have a good standard of English, and of course we all know how easy it is for women to attend classes with the Taliban in charge. She disgusts me.

Grantanow Thu 24-Aug-23 11:42:06

She's appalling and incompetent. Sunak should sack her.

nanna8 Thu 24-Aug-23 11:48:35

European Research Group or Efficiency and Reform Group? I don’t know about either but was just wondering which is the one being discussed here.

Dinahmo Thu 24-Aug-23 12:40:04

This is the latest horror from Braverman as described in an article from the Guardian. It concerns the takeover of hotels throughout the country and the small number of companies involved who are making profits along the line. More dosh for cronies.

Many asylum seekers are suffering from PTSD following the horrors in their home countries and while they were on the road. Sharing a room means they can never totally relax - would you be comfortable trying to sleep with a complete stranger in the bunk above you? Where has compassion gone? Stolen by the far right who want you to think it's poor immigrants taking things from you. It's not the poor immigrants - it's 13 years of Tory mismanagement/ austerity/ desire to eviscerate the “State”. And the rich Tory cronies who are now even richer following raking in (our) money in Covid-related rip-offs. But no, crack on with kicking the poor and the destitute.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 24-Aug-23 15:24:42

Good post nahsma

HousePlantQueen Thu 24-Aug-23 18:35:14

Regrettably, the mass gaslighting of the UK by the Tories seems to be working very well, if the ignorance, bigotry and repetition of lies and misinformation seen on this thread is any indicator.

choughdancer Thu 24-Aug-23 18:57:44

Well said nahsma. It is utterly SICKENING to see people demonised in an attempt to cover up complete incompetence by this government.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 24-Aug-23 19:27:29

Goodness knows how Labour are going to begin to tackle the dreadful situation that is building up due to Braverman’s utter hopelessness.

Just watching Ch. 4 it is like a nightmare.

Grantanow Fri 25-Aug-23 11:24:48

Braverman isn't in place to solve the immigration 'crisis'. She's in place to keep the 'crisis' in the public eye so as to whip up anti-refugee feelings and pander to the bigots and racists (of which we have far too many) in the hope of securing a Tory General Election victory. She keeps the foghorn media focussed on the small boats but ignores the enormous increase in immigrants with work visas because the Tories know we need them to run social care and the NHS, at least in the short term: a consequence of the loss of freedom of movement post-Brexit.
