As if Lebanon didn't have enough troubles of its own already now Hezbollah have decided to join in too. Rockets are going over the border into Northern Israel.

Hamas have betrayed the Palestinians in Gaza. they must have known that the attack on Israel would result in drastic repercussions but seem to have made no provision at all to have water and food for the population. The Hamas leaders aren't even in Gaza - last seen somewhere in Qatar I believe.

It's very bleak.

Yes, they would have known how Israel would react. Which is why, imo Israel shouldn’t have retaliated in the way they have. The west is now honour bound to support a government that is now also slaughtering innocent people and I don’t feel comfortable about that. Condemning what Israel is now doing is not saying that what Hamas have done isn’t vile and unforgivable. But what happened to the Israeli defences on Saturday? How did this happen? Who’s behind it all? And where is it all going to end?

Well said Franbern I do not support the actions of Hamas in any way ,I also do not support the treatment of the Palestinian people since the inception of the Israeli state .Its has been decades of abuse ,largely ignored by the world .I march with Jews in a Solidarity for Palestinian group .I am not anti semitic I am ANTI the Israeli STATE goverment with appears to get more fascist year on year .There are Palestinian schools ,hospitals bombed often there are Palestinian youths shot dead on the streets atrocities committed against old people and young mothers .It gets NO COVERAGE form the media .These people are expected to sit down and shut up and accept the vile treatment with no recourse to justice .

What did Hamas expect from a foolhardy action killing civilians at a festival and in a kibbutz. Gaza will now be destroyed for the Palestinans; Isreal will wipe it out and eventually move in. Cause and Effect, all the time.

This is really a fight between Eastern and Western Values. The young people at the music festival were targeted because they are seen to represent the "loose" moral behaviour of the West; also for the kibbutz families with their modern ways. Isreal is really a Western style Country fighting for survival in a mainly hostile Middle East.

There was a woman on the lunchtime news today whose parents, aged 85 and 83, have been taken hostage by Hamas.
She said her father was a volunteer, helping Palestinian people by meeting them and driving them to medical appointments etc.

It's ordinary people, good people, people on both sides, who are the ones who are suffering.

Israel is now about to seek revenge on the residents of Gaza probably killing more than Hamas have. Hamas will then seek revenge on Israel. This will continue until someone realises that war and killings do not bring peace they just lay the foundations for further wars and killings.

You're absolutely right, Hamas to not care one iota for the Palestinians under their authority. They have obviously spent weeks, probably months preparing for this onslaught, but not one minute preparing for the obvious reaction of Israel, no additional food, generators,fuel,medicine water,never mind providing bomb shelters or places of safety for the population. Those tunnels come to mind, like using the underground in WW2. Nothing it would appear has been prepared for for this obvious event for these poor Palestinians by their leaders who apparently are in Qatar!! Well that's fine for them, but for their citizens? Like Ww I too wish that these poor children could be taken out of Gaza to safety. The only people responsible for all this misery is Hamas both in Israel and in Gaza.

Isn't it part of Hamas's plan, to try to turn the West against Israel if they retaliate against the horrors they are carrying out? And some people are falling for it.
Hamas don't care if the people of Gaza suffer. They can't even agree with other Palestinian groups.

History is massively important in undertanding where we have got to this tragically abominable situation.

Fleurpepper that post was from pages ago, and my next posts explained why, I felt the thread was becoming just post after post about the history when this thread was presumably started to discuss how shocked we all were and the atrocities carried out by Hamas.
Candelle then posted a similar comment to mine which quite a few posters responded positively to.

What has just happened is more than the usual missile exchange, it’s the stuff of nightmares. Hamas care nothing for the population in Gaza their mission is just to wage war with Jews, to try to get others on board with them and kill as many as they can.Raping, burning and beheading as they go.
If only the Palestinians hadn’t voted them into power in the first place, not that there have been any elections allowed for a long time.

Paddyann54 plenty of people care about Palestine as witnessed by the mass demonstrations all over the world spouting disgusting racist rants which makes other hate crimes we see prosecuted in the West tame by comparison.
I used to have sympathy with Palestinians and did not support the building of more Israeli settlements.
However Ive since realised that millions of people across the world wish to eradicate Jews from the Middle East.
Thinking that any extremist (of which there are multitudes) in the Arab world would be happy to live in peace with the state of Israel however much we all would wish it is frankly naive.
I resent the statement that Israelis are driven by greed. No, they’re driven by fear and judging by the actions of those barbaric monsters on Saturday they are justified.
