Hamas has attacked Israel

It’s being reported that Hamas has launched 400 plus rockets into Israel along with its men shooting Israeli civilians in the streets.

Israel has retaliated with extreme force, are we heading for yet another all out war in the Middle East?

I was scrolling X (Twitter) and found the most appalling video posted by Hamas showing a dead Israeli women, stripped naked and being driven around whilst her body is being abused.

I do not think I can ever remove those images from my brain, yet again women being abused/defiled by men as an act of war.

Testosterone has a lot to answer for.

My friends mother was an active member of the Stern Group.
The irony is: she married a British soldier.

Do you mean the Stern gang?

I utterly condemn the ongoing attacks on Israel and her citizens.
There is no justification for this act of terror which is being perpetrated by those who seek to undermine any chance for future peace in the region.
Israel has a right to defend herself.
No mention of Israel's brutal apartheid of Palestine
no mention of ending Israeli occupation

I shall continue to denigrate your comment. It was disgusting.

Have you seen the video of the female Israeli soldier? Did you actually read the OP?

This deceased woman was naked in an open truck. Her body being pawed and abused by multiple men. Young boys spitting on her body.

And you think that a light hearted men comment is acceptable . Unbelievable.

Right now there are men going round houses and dragging innocent Israelis out. They are killing them.

But in your world its all down to them being testosterone driven men I guess.

Yes. I'm completely behind the Palestinians who have been abominably treated by the Israelis but this sort of thing won't win them support. Men!!

I agree. Israel have long been over aggressive to Palestine, in my opinion, and the current extreme administration run by Netanyahu has made a bad situation worse. However, if this video is true ( and not Israeli propaganda to discredit Palestine), then it will turn decent people against their cause.

Yet again, women suffering while men fight, the use of rape as a weapon of war is common place.

MaizieD Sat 07-Oct-23 17:16:31

And you think that a light hearted men comment is acceptable . Unbelievable.

It wasn't a lighthearted comment, it was a comment born of deep despair at a male dominated world in which killing, raping and torturing is deemed acceptable by the men who perpetrate it.

Citing a female leader of a male dominated government is pointless. The words 'male dominated' are the relevant ones.

Other than rhetoric (and not much of that, I suspect) and the Iranian regime the Arab states won't actively support Hamas because they don't want to destabilise the region. And they are unlikely to accept refugees from Gaza as they see the Palastinians there as trouble. The action might undermine the PLA and encourage other groups like Hezbollah. There will clearly be more bloodshed as Hamas are pushed back and the Israelis will need to think about the hostages taken by Hamas - armed rescue or slow negotiation are the options. Both carry risks.

Pooter Sat 07-Oct-23 17:51:22

The US has said it will support Israel. I assume that Arab states will support Palestine.

Well given that I have read that over 99% of the Muslims that have been killed in armed conflict since 1945 have been killed by other Muslims, I wouldn't be so sure.

Pooter Sat 07-Oct-23 18:01:31

It's not "men" that have carried out these atrocities, it is Palestinian men. Whilst not always angels, I have never seen footage of Israelis acting in such a bestial manner towards Palestinian women, and there are millions of smartphones in The Palestinian Territories to capture such footage.

maddyone Sat 07-Oct-23 18:14:28

I will always support Israel. I have Jewish friends. Hamas have launched a terrorist attack. The people of Israel must defend themselves. How Qatar can support blatant terrorism and such appalling behaviour is beyond me.

maddyone Sat 07-Oct-23 18:16:05

I agree with Pooter. The Israelis never behave in such a bestial manner towards Israeli women.

MaizieD Sat 07-Oct-23 18:23:18

Of course, the Israelis have never razed villages to the ground, destroyed crops or killed family parties having a day out on a beach. Or treated Palestinians in Israel as second class citizens.

There have been awful things done by both sides. I condemn both. But I feel desperately sorry for the citizens of both nations who didn't want this to happen.

MaizieD Sat 07-Oct-23 18:25:44

P.S We have christians killing fellow christians in Ukraine... And torturing and raping.
Don't try loading it all on Muslims...

Aveline Sat 07-Oct-23 19:31:03

By and large it's not women who bomb, rape and destroy homes.
The long term bullying and intimidation of Palestinians by Israelis was bound to boil over sooner or later. One country's terrorist is another country's freedom fighter.

Katie59 Sat 07-Oct-23 20:24:46

Israel was caught unprepared for sure, obviously Hamas has been stockpiling weapons for some time, it was a holiday weekend is Israel and the army was on holiday too.

Because a lot of hostages have been taken, reported at 50 plus Israel will have to negotiate, and probably heads will roll in politics.

Grany Sat 07-Oct-23 20:33:10

Israel's occupation also extends to Palestinian water supply. The Israeli government and private companies control and severely restrict Palestinian access to water, leaving the majority of the West Bank without running water, unlike Israeli settlers. As well as encroaching on more and more of their land building a high wall Palestinians are prisoners in their own land. When will Israel stop the occupation of Palestine

Aveline Sat 07-Oct-23 20:40:14

Yes. Time to stop the occupation of Palestine.

tickingbird Sat 07-Oct-23 20:43:30

It’s not Palestinian land. The Jews were there long before the Palestinians.

Pooter Sat 07-Oct-23 20:49:36

Aveline

Yes. Time to stop the occupation of Palestine.

Jews lived in Israel 1,800 years before Mohamed founded Islam. They are the aboriginal people who were expelled from their homeland. Now they have returned.

"About half the world's Jews are colonialist settlers, the other half live in Israel".

Whitewavemark2 Sat 07-Oct-23 21:03:27

What Hamas has done today is wrong, but how can you suppress 2.5million people with a blockade, keep them in effect in a large concentration camp, and continually colonise their land as well as threaten them with a powerful military, -without expecting any retaliation, - for year after year after year?

It ain’t going to happen.

silverlining48 Sat 07-Oct-23 21:12:24

There have been hundreds of of palestinian killed over past months by the Israeli army, as far as I know none of this has been reported, it rarely is.

However today is different because Israel have been attacked, resulting in end to end tv footage.

The people of Palestine, or what is left of it have suffered fir 75 years. I can’t see the two state solution ever coming to pass because most of what was supposed to be Palestine is already lost because of land grabs and settlers intent on building houses on palestinian land.

It’s a tragedy for the whole region, in part caused by us, the uk.

Louella12 Sat 07-Oct-23 21:46:09

An awful lot of ignorant comments here.

Do some research

At least some on here are aware of the situation.

Where are all the Jews that were in Egypt, Libya and other Arab countries? Almost a million had to leave due to hostility and expulsion. About 600 thousand ended up in Israel. This didn't happen that long ago. 1948 until the 70s.

Anyone got any opinion about that?

The Jewish have been persecuted for hundreds of years.

But, you carry on supporting a group of people who wouldn't thank you for your support. Because you're women.

This is hugely complex and I doubt anyone here knows much about it.

How would you feel if you were taken from your home, your car, beaten, killed even.

These acts by Hamas are shocking.

And Israel will fight back and who will win? There will be many deaths and the whole thing is horrific

But of course they're just men aren't they? With an exclamation mark. Which made the earlier comment light hearted.

merlotgran Sat 07-Oct-23 21:46:29

My thoughts are with the hostages.

Iam64 Sat 07-Oct-23 22:04:29

Louella12, it takes courage to challenge the narrative. I know a little of the history and you’re right to call it hugely complex
Anti semitism is never far from any discussion about Israeli Palestinian issues.

Callistemon21 Sat 07-Oct-23 22:12:59

It is complex, the problems have gone way back even before the 1940s, and no-one has any answers.
