Hamas has attacked Israel

It’s being reported that Hamas has launched 400 plus rockets into Israel along with its men shooting Israeli civilians in the streets.

Israel has retaliated with extreme force, are we heading for yet another all out war in the Middle East?

I was scrolling X (Twitter) and found the most appalling video posted by Hamas showing a dead Israeli women, stripped naked and being driven around whilst her body is being abused.

I do not think I can ever remove those images from my brain, yet again women being abused/defiled by men as an act of war.

An awful lot of ignorant comments here.

Do some research

At least some on here are aware of the situation.

Where are all the Jews that were in Egypt, Libya and other Arab countries? Almost a million had to leave due to hostility and expulsion. About 600 thousand ended up in Israel. This didn't happen that long ago. 1948 until the 70s.

Anyone got any opinion about that?

The Jewish have been persecuted for hundreds of years.

But, you carry on supporting a group of people who wouldn't thank you for your support. Because you're women.

This is hugely complex and I doubt anyone here knows much about it.

How would you feel if you were taken from your home, your car, beaten, killed even.

These acts by Hamas are shocking.

And Israel will fight back and who will win? There will be many deaths and the whole thing is horrific

But of course they're just men aren't they? With an exclamation mark. Which made the earlier comment light hearted.

The difference between the Jews that were expelled from Arab lands, and the expelled Palestinians is that the Jews were deliberately integrated into wider Israeli society, whereas Palestinian refugees were equally deliberately put into permanent refugee camps in other Arab countries and treated as second or third class citizens (although typically they weren't granted citizenship). They were deliberately kept as a festering sore for over 70 years for propaganda purposes.

Jewish people have been persecuted for centuries. They were expelled repeatedly by various other peoples going back I think to the fifth or sixth century. Many fled to Europe over the many years and frequently they were expelled from European countries, including England round about 1290. The final persecution was the abhorrent holocaust, after which Jewish people realised they would never be completely safe anywhere in the world and so they rebuilt the state of Israel. They have been constantly attacked by the surrounding Arab states ever since. Of course they’ll defend themselves. Israel is the Jewish homeland.

It's not "men" that have carried out these atrocities, it is Palestinian men. Whilst not always angels, I have never seen footage of Israelis acting in such a bestial manner towards Palestinian women, and there are millions of smartphones in The Palestinian Territories to capture such footage.

Palestinian women have been subjected to abuse by Israeli soldiers. Of course there is no film footage, but there are many first hand reports. Would you stand and film something whilst soldiers with guns stood guard?

This happened in front of the women's families and children.

Palestinian women have also been raped in Israeli prisons

But they threw the Palestinians out of what, at the time, was their homeland and have treated them abysmally ever since. I don’t understand how persecuted people then go on to persecute other people.

Yes Israel will win, they have the money, the power, the weapons and the support of many countries. Hundreds of civilians, men women and children in Gaza, will now lose their lives simply because of the massive overcrowding in that tiny strip of land.

Finally criticising the Israeli government’s behaviour does not make someone antisemetic.

However it IS anti-Semitic if you decide, unconsciously or otherwise, to judge Israel's actions using a different moral yardstick to that used to measure the actions of other countries in the region.

Thus I presume you won't object if the IDF behave in Gaza with the same 'kindness, humanity and compassion' that Hamas today (yesterday) demonstrated as it slaughtered 250 and counting civilians including women, children and old people in cold blood.

Just as Israelis have been doing this for years but they control the media information that gets out.

Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. Women have rights and they are a civilised nation and there are Arabs living peacefully in Israel. I know because I’ve been there and seen with my own eyes. Hamas are terrorists and they terrorise the people of Palestine too. They are the Isis of the area. Many of the pictures you see of people cheering them etc are just stage managed a la Sadam Hussein. The poor people will now suffer terribly when the Israeli government launch their retaliation.

Aveline Sun 08-Oct-23 06:13:11

Did you experience life in Palestine under the severe restrictions imposed by Israel?

tickingbird Sun 08-Oct-23 06:15:22

No did you?

Have experienced life as a Jew?

I do think that there are questions to answer though.

Who is supplying Hamas with the weapons?

Which country has the most to gain from this?

Why did Israeli security/intelligence fail so spectacularly and at this time?

I do think those questions give one pause for thought.

Iran is allied to Russia
Russia is allied to China
All 3 are hostile to the west.
Hamas don’t realise they’re being played by the above.

karmalady Sun 08-Oct-23 08:22:27

Oh I think that they do. Bizarrely it is being reported that the weapons they are using are American, left behind in Afghanistan.

300 dead Israelis
290 dead Palestinians

What a dreadful needless waste of lives

TerriBull Sun 08-Oct-23 09:24:15

Yes I echo your sentiments GG, how awful, dreadful loss of life on both sides.

Urmstongran Sun 08-Oct-23 09:40:26

There won’t be any negotiating that’s for sure.

nanna8 Sun 08-Oct-23 09:47:25

Looking at the Palestinian ‘army ‘ on tv they are using things like bicycles and tractors and little drones. Very foolish against the Americans and Israelis. They will be annihilated . Americans don’t hold back. What sort of mentality would do that? They look like a bunch of adolescent boys, playing with fire. They have been badly treated and had their lands taken but this is not the answer for them.

maddyone Sun 08-Oct-23 09:48:43

The actions of Hamas were bestial. Driving dead, naked or semi naked women around on trucks displaying their bodies. The killings of approximately 500 civilians, hostages gone to God knows where, 500 missiles rained down on Israel. They send missiles into Israel all the time but it’s rarely reported. One of the girls murdered and stripped was actually a German woman. Her parents in Germany are reportedly distraught. Hardly surprising. I can’t imagine what the people of Israel are going through. This is nothing but terrorism and bestiality. There is no justification for this. I can’t imagine how any normal person can even try to justify it.

silverlining48 Sun 08-Oct-23 10:17:46

Would just say that the rockets which had been sent to sterot (sp) the nearest Israeli town rarely do any damage as they are not powerful enough. Thus perhaps not news worthy.
I believe the Palestinians feel they have nothing to lose, a quick death or a Slow one in what is an open air prison the size of Birmingham but with 2.5 million inhabitants squeezed into it.
They have been told to leave their homes but there is nowhere they can go, and without the safe rooms that most Israeli homes have they have nowhere to hide themselves and their Families.
It’s a tragic situation.

Read the link I gave to what happens to Palestinian women when Israeli soldiers decide to search their houses. Then work out what is behind these acts which are acts of retribution. Horrific yes, but how much more horrific is it to know that the soldiers of an occupying army behave in such a manner and the incidents are not reported, that it never even makes the news because it is simply an everyday occurrence.

maddyone Sun 08-Oct-23 10:27:42

There is no justification for yesterday’s events, but I know people will continue to try to justify them.

maddyone Sun 08-Oct-23 10:31:25

If you are silent when terrorists murder innocent Israeli civilians, stay silent when she defends herself.

I will always support Israel. I have Jewish friends. Hamas have launched a terrorist attack. The people of Israel must defend themselves. How Qatar can support blatant terrorism and such appalling behaviour is beyond me.

Being jewish or having Jewish Friends and supporting the extreme right wing government of Israel currently, are two quite different things. Many Jews, both in and out of Israel completely oppose the current govrnment and their virtually fascist , apartheid system. And, it is they and that system that is the real culprets for this current attack.

I am quite horrified as to how Biden, Starmer etc can rush in to support such a right wing government. And we need always to remember that ones sides 'terrorists' and the other sides 'freedom fighters'.

That sums it up for me.

Both sides are at fault, there will not be a winning side only devastated families, broken lives and destruction of properties and infrastructure.
