People were quick to support Ukraine and it’s citizens when Russia invaded, why is it so hard to support Israel, they have had their border breeched, they have been shelled?

There is no appetite for a negotiated settlement from Hamas.

How will forcing a million people to relocate to an already crowded and partially destroyed area flush out Hamas?

It will make Israel every bit as bad as Hamas if they bomb Gaza indiscriminately punishing innocent men women and children who already have nothing with no where to hide. All it will do is act as a recruiting sergeant for the Palestinian cause. A no win situation for all.
After decades of violence in Northern Ireland discussion eventually took place, compromise was needed which brought peace for the population who had lived in fear for so many years.

Unlike the Provisional IRA Hamas are unlikely to recognise that armed struggle will not lead to success. Their objectives are different. PIRA did not seek the end of the British state or the deaths of all its citizens nor were they driven by religious fervour.

Hamas has controlled Gaza for years but failed to develop its economy - a deliberate strategy to ensure there is a ready supply of unemployed young men available for terrorism.

Hamas aren’t fighting for Israeli land. They want the annihilation of all Jews.

As for the IRA and their kneecapping, that was against other Irish Catholics. Mostly teenagers and young men who’d transgressed in some way ie a spot of drug dealing or maybe anti social behaviour. Likewise with the tarring and feathering of young women who had dalliances with British troops in the early days. As time went on they wouldn’t dare for fear of the consequences.

There’s a similar pattern with Hamas. Use your own people to further your aims, subjugate women. Best and torture anyone who would wish to get along with the ‘enemy’. Force your warped views on civilians, make them do your bidding.

The difference with Hamas is they can’t be reasoned with as what they and others want isn’t achievable.

I'd be very surprised if the majority of Hamas is still in Gaza..or if the hostages are still alive.. I imagine Hamas are regrouping elsewhere and leaving the Palestinians to certain death

Just thinking about what those people actually did stunned me. How do you make yourself do those things in cold blood. Have they been desensitised by playing violent computer games? Were they hyped up and on some sort of stimulant drug? I don't know. I simply don't understand how one human being could do those things to another human being.

I was in London when two of the bombs went off, extremely close, I consider myself lucky.

IRA did not behead babies, bind their limbs and then burn children alive or commit anything like the atrocities of Hamas.

No, they just knee-capped people, tarred and feathered them and blew up the odd bus or took people down back streets and shot them.

I don't see any posts applauding what may be Israel's vengeful response, certainly most people on this thread know only too well there are two sides to this. The nature of the atrocity meted out by Hamas on innocent people was utterly barbaric. Quite honestly why should "we" be ashamed, we all know innocent lives will be caught up in the crossfire, does anyone applaud that, I think not! However, what I do see round the world, and shamefully in western countries is the glorification and absolute gloating going on amongst the pro Hamas supporters under the guise of waving Palestinian flags. As I've said up thread I've seen this intimidation of Jewish communities going on at close quarters when I was down in Bournemouth a couple of years ago, yes and where are the bloody police at such times ? they can turn up mob handed to march people off for all the nonsense surrounding gender spats Personally I think the French were damn right to ban the pro Palestinian demonstrations because it's less about the support of Palestine and far more about the disgusting glorification of the murder of innocents. I think it's a tragedy the way Jewish communities feel under siege here in our country and in mainland Europe it would be an awful scenario if the Jewish community feel so unsafe they leave again for the umpteenth time.

Inevitably comparisons are drawn between Ireland and Israel, it's easy to agree with a desire for a united Ireland without supporting the terrorist organisation that was the IRA, maybe not as extreme as Hamas, nevertheless another disgusting lot who inflicted all manner of atrocities on us here in England, as well as their native Ireland. I too worked in London very close to where a bomb went off. I can remember those times we all moved about in total fear of our lives. something Scottish citizens never had to worry about. I could never never support the acts of random terrorism even if I loosely agree with the overall objectives.

According to The Independent three Jewish schools have definitely closed today, a fourth has allegedly closed.

The reason being is Palestinian supporters have called for mass demonstrations/protests by Muslims across the world today.

Sadly the bottom line for some IS the hatred of Jews and where- ever they live,nowhere is completely safe for them. It is simple, one group hates the other so much and believes they should be wiped off the face of the earth. There is no all inclusive multi cultural love going on there.

I have just seen an interview with a father if an 8 year old girl who has just been told she is dead.

His response was that of tearful relief, I would rather she be dead than held hostage in Gaza, I know what they do to hostages

Yup, water cannons are the answer, good for the French for using them.

Of course Hamas are hoping the Israeli Army will go into Gaza, they’re hoping for more bodies to parade about and spit on.
A lot of Israeli soldiers will be killed in doing this, but if they can clear Gaza of Hamas it will be deemed worth it.
They have given warnings to leave the North to the people, and as for where can they go, the answer is the South.
We all feel sorry for children caught up in a war, but remember a lot of Palestinian adults there support Hamas and were I bet celebrating at what went on in Israeli villages, as they were around the world.You can’t call all ‘innocents’ .

The only thing Israel can do now is to finally rid Gaza of any trace of Hamas. For their own future protection and for the Palestinian people.

They won't get rid of Hamas, we didn't get rid of the Taliban or Isis. They might be weakened but they will pop up again. I am inclined to think that the more people are oppressed, the more likely they will be recruited into terrorist organisations because they don't have a future. Happy people with enough food in their belly and hope for their children don't become terrorists.
