Hamas has attacked Israel

It’s being reported that Hamas has launched 400 plus rockets into Israel along with its men shooting Israeli civilians in the streets.

Israel has retaliated with extreme force, are we heading for yet another all out war in the Middle East?

I was scrolling X (Twitter) and found the most appalling video posted by Hamas showing a dead Israeli women, stripped naked and being driven around whilst her body is being abused.

I do not think I can ever remove those images from my brain, yet again women being abused/defiled by men as an act of war.

They don’t have any other suggestions Callistemon
Sitting and wringing hands seems to be the only thing on offer.

According to the IDF they are targeting the tunnels that Hamas use for running away and smuggling

So unless Hamas have hostages and civilians down there with them, there should be minimum civilian casualties.

Israel is trying to avoid Palestinian citizens casualties, unlike Hamas’s modus operandi

It will make Israel every bit as bad as Hamas if they bomb Gaza indiscriminately punishing innocent men women and children who already have nothing with no where to hide. All it will do is act as a recruiting sergeant for the Palestinian cause. A no win situation for all.
After decades of violence in Northern Ireland discussion eventually took place, compromise was needed which brought peace for the population who had lived in fear for so many years.

So why is the terrorist threat there still substantial?
And who are the proscribed terrorist groups who reject peace?

Try telling that to the families of Lyra McKee and John Cauldwell and to the police and their families living with daily threats to their lives.

They shouldn’t be slaughtering innocent Palestinians.

Do you have any suggestions?

So it’s ok to slaughter innocent people? Because no body knows what else to do? Maybe we should have just bombed Ireland to smithereens because of the IRA?

Callistemon21 Fri 13-Oct-23 12:17:39

PaddyAnn54 So you will be out marching and waving the Palestinian flag today then?

The Palestinian flag or the Hamas flag 🤔
That is the thing - they are different.

We can all feel for the innocent people on both sides of the border caught up in this, pray for those taken hostage but Hamas will use the Palestinian people because they are not fighting for them, their cause is a different one, the annihilation of Israel.

Israel are warning people to vacate Gaza even though they’ve got nowhere to go. This is inhuman. Whatever Hamas have done two wrongs don’t make a right.

I didn't say that.

What suggestions do you have? Or are you on your way with a white flag to try to get Hamas and the Israeli Government to have a nice chat.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 13-Oct-23 12:20:34

This will not end well. The slaughter of so many innocent civilians on both sides, will never be forgotten (or forgiven by some).

It certainly won’t end in peace.

No Paddyann the rest of the world did not come to the rescue of the Jews in WW2. Many countries particularly in Eastern Europe were glad to see the back of them, and betrayed them to the Nazis. The French Vichy government actually sought out Jews and rounded them up for destruction. Men,women and children were destroyed without mercy in appalling circumstances. Individually of course many people risked their own lives to hide and protect Jews including the family of a very dear German pen friend of my mother's, They were eventually betrayed and of course murdered. The only people who will protect Jews/Israelis are themselves, and this is what they are now doing.

You're right, it won't.

I just hope it doesn't have repercussions and spread further. ☹

Why is the United Nations so hopeless? The UN Sevurity Council couldn't even agree on a statement!

Most people will feel conflicted but after what just happened there has to be a response.
Hamas could hand over the Israeli hostages in exchange for water food and power for the people there. They don’t care about the people there tho, not even the ones who support them. They want the Army to go in with hand to hand fighting and don’t care about homes being blown up or anything else.
Killing is all Hamas cares about, so how do you deal with terrorist groups like this? You can’t negotiate as you would do with an enemy leadership, that isn’t their goal.
What other choices are there?

No I am at shocked that people are wanting Israel to do nothing.

To do nothing gives Hamas and other terrorist criminals the green light to carry out any heinous atrocities they wish as there will be no repercussions.

Hamas and other terrorists do not give a flying f*ck (apologies for my language but I am equally heartbroken, angry and distraught over the developing situation) about innocent children, elderly or anyone.

Governments have to play them at their game, or any country could be subjected to the horrendous attacks that Israel experienced on Saturday.

So the dead Palestinians will be just collateral damage?

Callistemon21 Fri 13-Oct-23 12:32:11

WHY are they somehow exempt from responsibility ,when the whole world went to their aid in WW11 !

That is a very naïve statement, just why is explained best by Jaberwok

Is as much use as a chocolate teapot.

They have an Iranian politician as the representative for women’s rights if my memory serves me right.

To Hamas, yes.

So the dead Palestinians will be just collateral damage?

I suggest you ask that question of Hamas, the dead babies, children, women and elderly were their collateral damage.

The Israelis have given notice, the people have more chance of escape than the Jews who were slaughtered last Saturday.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 13-Oct-23 12:39:08

In the end there will be negotiation.

Of course there will be. The problem is how many children and innocent civilians are they prepared to kill before then.

Neither side will come up smelling of roses.

MaizieD Fri 13-Oct-23 12:39:23

The only people who will protect Jews/Israelis are themselves, and this is what they are now doing.

Oh, so the US promise of arms is an illusion? The UK sending in naval support is an illusion?

I am surprised that people citing the appalling attempted historic genocide of Jews as a terrible evil are comfortable with the threatened genocide of Palestinians.
