Hamas has attacked Israel

It’s being reported that Hamas has launched 400 plus rockets into Israel along with its men shooting Israeli civilians in the streets.

Israel has retaliated with extreme force, are we heading for yet another all out war in the Middle East?

I was scrolling X (Twitter) and found the most appalling video posted by Hamas showing a dead Israeli women, stripped naked and being driven around whilst her body is being abused.

I do not think I can ever remove those images from my brain, yet again women being abused/defiled by men as an act of war.

I did say many on the left, not all on the left Glorianny
The rest of what you say is true, but after what Hamas have just done it sets it’s cause back for the next 50 years or more I should think.

Southern England to the Saxons and Angles?
They're still here 🙂

And we’ve been ruled by the Normans ever since - we got used to it and there was no religious issue.

No religious issue? Wow, you are jesting I hope.

As far as I know the English and the Normans were both Catholic, although there might have been a few Druids still
Rather a contrast to the hatred between the Jews and Muslims, in Israel

What religious differences do you think there were between the Normans and the Saxons Fleurpepper?
They were all very religious, following the Catholic Christian faith.
One of my Saxon ancestors left a note for posterity saying he was never going to call pigmeat ‘porc’ for any Norman bastard, 😂 but that’s as far as it went.

😄😄 you need to re-read our history.

We slaughtered a complete diaspora of Jews in York.

We have burned, hung drawn and quartered our way through the various Christian denominations over hundreds of years. Catholics still cannot gain the throne. And were locked out if our political system for hundreds of years.
And don’t get me started on the atrocities we inflicted on Muslims, Hindus, and traditional societies. Even going so far as to wipe out a complete tribe.
That’s just a bit if what we as “good Christian’s” are capable of

It happened in many European countries Whitewavemark2
Enmity and hatred for Jews and pogroms from time to time happened everywhere, but has nothing to do with the Normans.

I think you will find it had everything to do with the Normans!

Speaking as a Jew ,I am appalled at your lack of knowledge as to what it feels like to be persecuted and driven to fleeing back to our homeland which we feel is our only hope of survival . Israel is our home ... G-d gave it to us and everyone is determined to take it from us . Hamas is a terrorist group , that is a fact . The Palestinians who live in the West bank work and live along side us at peace , I hope that that doesn't have to change now.

MadeInYorkshire Mon 09-Oct-23 13:02:01

The whole thing is awful, but Israel has MOSSAD, one of the best secret services in the world, a very technological fighting force etc so are they telling us they didn't know this was coming? It doesn't add up, like a lot of things nowadays .... for instance the fact that the Navy & Coastguard aren't able to spot a small boat with radar or even the naked eye on the 18 mile stretch of the English Channel; and the Holly Willoughby kidnap plot. Some ex employee of Pizza Hut can afford to buy the services of some American hitman? Surely, they could have protected Holly and waited for said hitman to come off the plane and the 2 involved arrested at the same time? It doesn't add up!

Jeremy Corbyn who Starmer supported to be our next Prime Minister counts Hamas as his friends, so I'm assuming Starmer did as well, imagine if Corbyn was our PM now.

And he would have done a fantastic job.

This is what Jeremy said.

The unfolding events in Israel and Palistine ate deeply alarming.

We need an immediate ceasefire and urgent de-escalation.

And we need a route out of this tragic cycle of violence: ending the occupation is the only means of achieving a just and lasting peace.

Frightening that Corbyn is the only MP in the UK calling for de escalation of the bloodshed and killing in the Middle East. And worse, many MPs are pillorying and abusing him for advocating peace. What kind of Country has the UK become?
@kennardmatt
It must be emphasised that armed struggle by the Palistine resistance against the occupier is legal under international law.

Jeremy Corbyn has called for a ceasefire.

He has said there is need for urgent de escalation

He wants a world of peace and an end to the violence.

But somehow he is the evil bastard when it come to the Israeli Palistine conflict.

Honestly, it really beggars belief.

Men? What on earth do you mean?

Do you actually know what's going on there, right now?

I can't believe men is the response on here.

Disgraceful

I agree. This isn't a "men" thing. I'm sure that the bodies of slain males will be equally defiled and paraded as gory trophies. It's sickening but to reduce it to a "men" thing is ignoring the true horror of what's going on.

It must feel like that gillianne but I’m sure 99.9% of GN posters would like to see a peaceful solution, where both Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace, just as they did at the beginning of the last century, before it all went totally pear shaped.

Whatever you think, and I agree about the terrorists, Israel will have to talk to the Palestinians and their representatives in order to bring about a peaceful conclusion. If this means talking to Hamas, then so be it. We talked to the IRA and got peace. South Africa recognised the terrorist Nelson Mandela and got peace. It has to be done.m
How this happens I don’t know and it will take a mighty leader to succeed in this. There is no one at present.

EEJit Mon 09-Oct-23 13:18:38

Ladies ladies, don't class all men with the barbarians of Hamas and the like, we're not all the same.

If you want us all together, we could think of Hindley, Allit, and Letby, and lump all of you together.

missdeke Mon 09-Oct-23 13:18:54

I can't see how this complex situation will ever be sorted out. The interference help from the British Government over many years has not helped. The Palestinian mandate from the early part of the 20th Century, then the partition of the country to provide Israel with a home in 1948, which I believe was not ratified, then of course there was the war in the 60s resulting in further border changes, when and how will it ever end. The Palestinians and Israelis believe that they are in the right, how will they ever agree?

Actually God didn't give Palestine to the Jews. It was taken by a terrorist group
The main terrorist groups were Irgun Zvai Leumi (National Military Organisation) - ultimately led by future Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin - and an even more militant organisation, Lohamey Heruth Israel (Fighters for the Freedom of Israel) or LHI.

The British called LHI the Stern Gang after its leader, Abraham Stern, who was killed in a clash with the Palestine Police in 1942. In November 1944, LHI assassinated the British Minister for the Middle East, Lord Moyne

There is nothing new about terrorism in the area and it hasn't always been Palestinians involved

You are angry,

Normans and the English were both Christian in 1066, there was no religious conflict until Henry V111. After that it became dangerous to be the wrong religion of the time.

Jews have been persecuted in most countries and still are in many, greater injustices were carried out against the Scot, Welsh, and Irish.

Eileen Mon 09-Oct-23 13:38:35

Palestinians must have expected a fierce reaction it makes you wonder who is driving this? Gaza couldn’t hope to win.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 09-Oct-23 13:43:11

katie59 I’m honestly not remotely angry. I’m enjoying a good debate, but not taking it a tiny bit personally.

Yes the Normans were Christian, and yes they slaughtered Jews.

And yes the Catholic Church was the only Christian denomination in England until the Tudors when we then burned, hung drawn and quartered our way through both Protestant and Catholic faiths.

Mind you I’d be a bit peeved if I thought my child was going to be slaughtered by an English/Norman resident of York.

DianaLouise Mon 09-Oct-23 13:59:50

I believe Starmer's wife is Jewish so may disagree with Corbyn.

Callistemon21 Mon 09-Oct-23 14:04:46

Hamas wants to form a Muslim State.

What would happen to the Palestinian Christians? Would they be persecuted too?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 09-Oct-23 14:06:08

Laying siege to Gaza I think would be classed as a war crime. Israel should think again imo

You don't think what Hamas has done is a terrorist attack?
Do you think Israel would sit back and wrong its hands?

I am worried that this is part of a bigger plan.

Imprisoning them for 49 years should be a war crime

Yes of course it is a terrorist attacking, although Hamas would argue that they are at war with Israel.

But I think that you would find that the rules covering the engagement of war does not allow siege as a weapon. The Nazis used it during wW2 in Russia.
