Hamas has attacked Israel

Hamas is and always has been one of the worst terrorist groups in the world. Their control of Gaza has over 2 million people living under suppression.

The atrocities that came from video shown over the wknd are so evil, yes, you will never erase that from your mind.

I stand with Israel - they are now under siege. Israel has a very hard road ahead trying to recapture the hostages taken.

It does not bode well to know that Hezbollah (another violent Iranian terrorist group) stationed in southern Lebanon on Israel’s northern border has ‼️130,000‼️missiles aimed at Israel.

What religious differences do you think there were between the Normans and the Saxons Fleurpepper?
They were all very religious, following the Catholic Christian faith.
One of my Saxon ancestors left a note for posterity saying he was never going to call pigmeat ‘porc’ for any Norman bastard, 😂 but that’s as far as it went.

Speaking as a Jew ,I am appalled at your lack of knowledge as to what it feels like to be persecuted and driven to fleeing back to our homeland which we feel is our only hope of survival . Israel is our home ... G-d gave it to us and everyone is determined to take it from us . Hamas is a terrorist group , that is a fact . The Palestinians who live in the West bank work and live along side us at peace , I hope that that doesn't have to change now.

This was never what was supposed to happen in 48. The brutal and hugely inhumane expansion of Israel's territory has been appalling. The Holocaust, however brutal and beyond cruel- has been used to excuse the theft of long held Palestianian lands, in the worst possible of ways. Just because some Palestinians do live and work there, does not mean that they have been treated in a way which means they are now so desperate that they no longer have anything to lose.

NO GOD gave it to you. A small part was taken from Palestine after the holocaust- and the rest has been slowly, cruelly, disgustingly, been taken from the Palestinians. Slash and burn, sewerage from new settlements poured onto ancient lands and villages, and worse.

Yes of course it is a terrorist attacking, although Hamas would argue that they are at war with Israel.

But I think that you would find that the rules covering the engagement of war does not allow siege as a weapon. The Nazis used it during wW2 in Russia.

I really do not think that Mr.Netanyahu or the leader of Hamas are thinking of anything other than revenge.

Neither side are worried about committing war crimes, just annihilating each other and Israel seems intent on reducing Palestinian infrastructure (what there is of it) to rubble.

Most of the fighters in Gaza are outsiders who have taken over the place spoiling for a fight. Hamas joined by Isis now. Civilians there are bullied human shields.Hezbollah are similar in Lebanon.
My sister lives in Israel.,her sister in law has a son in law whose sisters are missing since the Peace Music Festival. My niece’s friends have had family killed in this invasion.
Numerous peace conferences with Palestinians over the years. They don’t seem to want peace. Having billions of dollars thrown at them over the years. Their terrorists in prison are given a huge wage to support their families from this money. Go and mow down people at a bus stop and be paid more than you could earn?

How can you have Peace when your land and everything else has been taken from you- piece by piece, and in the most cruel and dehumanising of ways? Is Israel intending to give those lands back- replace olive groves that were 100s of years old, rebuild the villages they have destroyed, etc, etc?

Oh yes the Celts were there was a distinctly different set of dates for the Celtic christian church. It caused such bother that a special Synod was held in Whitby in 645 where it was greed the dates of the RC church would be adopted.
The Celts also allowed women more say in church matters than RCs

There's a fascinating series of podcasts on The Rest is History about the rise of fascism in the UK and it also covers anti semitism. I listened to all three last night but there's so much to take in I need to listen to it again. It covers things like the battle of cable street [which, if I've got this right showed that the fascists and the anti fascist weren't actually fighting each other; they were both fighting the police].

Yes, that is the question? Something to do with usary,money lending? Shylock, Fagin, Judas all depicting and demonising Jews as greedy and avaricious. This ingrained attitude could have something to do with present day anti semitism.

So two wrongs make it right, ever been to Gaza, where Hamas, not Israel are making it a nightmare for ordinary Palestinians, now using them ,again, as human shields. Two hundred innocents murdered at a music festival,f cowards this Hamas.
Now Palestinians, who love Hamas,we unfortunately have given refuge to,now attacking Jewish business in London, cannot remember Jewish people doing this, thanks to Mayor Khan, who has given them free rein in our Capital city, wonder why. Disgusted. Tribal wars imported to ours homes. So 😡

Hadley Freeman's personal family history in which she catalogues the experiences of her family during the late 19th century and part of the 20th century "House of Glass" gives an insight into what it's like to be Jewish and experiencing on -going prejudice, whilst her ancestors were moving through several countries, first from the overt anti semitism they experienced in a very Catholic Poland and then a more subtle form in France, until they, the family, felt the full force of it when WW11 broke out. There are a myriad of reasons for anti semitism it would seem. Everything from "your people killed Jesus" to the stereotypical "Jews are all rich" Hadley Freeman's great grandparents lived an impoverished hand to mouth existence in Poland. More commonly there's this "Jews are a cabal of bankers and moneyed influential people who control the world" or the more extreme "Jews have killed our children" Umpteen pogroms before the final solution of the Holocaust. I think anyone would have to live it to understand it and how it would affect the attitude of those who are continually having to justify their existence and I think unfortunately having had a period of relative peace it's all coming to the fore again. I remember seeing some Palestinian flag waving going on in Bournemouth a couple of years ago, used as an intimidation tactic when Jewish people were going to and from synagogue on a Saturday.

All that of course doesn't mitigate the terrible injustices inflicted against the Palestinian people, I'm not trying to be an apologist for what Israel has done to those people and I the injustices that have been meted out to them. However, it does seem sadly some seem to hold the Jewish population per se responsible for whatever the Israeli government is inflicting on the people of Gaza. . Inevitably it's hard wired into the Jewish psyche that subliminal fear of "will we ever be safe anywhere".

What's really sad is the fact that Jews and Arabs lived side by side in relative harmony in parts of the world, medieval Cordoba pre Spanish Inquisition, where their respective cultures enriched the places they settled in. Many parts of the Arab world too such as Iraq had Jews and Arabs live side by side, friends and neighbours. In fact imo they have much in common if only they could reach some mutual compromise.

Heartbreaking to see the fear and sheer misery, this latest atrocity has caused, particularly etched on the faces of the children both Jewish and Palestinian.

I loathe Netanyahu and his alliance with the far right was never going to lead to a better understanding with Palestinians, This does not make me anti semetic just rather hostile to a right wing Israeli government and what that means. I also loathe Hamas, it is a cruel terrorist organisation which seems to care little for the welfare of Gazans, if it did, it would not have committed these atrocities. I do, however, have huge sympathy for the nearly 2.5m people trapped in an area the size of the Isle of Wight with an appalling life and little in the way of a future. The sad thing is that whilst they are treated like this Gaza will continue to supply Hamas with a constant flow of young men willing to fight. Israel will, no doubt, destroy what little there is left of Gaza, continuing to stoke the flames of retaliation and tbh I can't see an end to it, just more misery and killing. Reading some of the posts here has been very depressing. Rights and wrongs of the past can never be changed and the Palestinians and Israelis living now are the only people who can institute change and make things better for everyone, but they won't, will they?

Just a thought..probably simplistically puerile, but how do WE square all our individual efforts to counteract climate change with all these maniacs polluting the atmosphere by launching rockets and bombing entire communities into oblivion?

I think what we mean., Louella is that it is men who initiate and carry out aggressive acts which end up as wars.
