A second thread to share our thoughts and prayers on this moving situation

maddyone Tue 17-Oct-23 18:22:16

I would hazard a guess that these are all conspiracy theories.

maddyone Tue 17-Oct-23 18:22:57

We had conspiracy theories after 9/11 too.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 17-Oct-23 18:25:05

A world catastrophe is nectar to a conspiracy theorist…

Netanyahu’s own brother was killed when rescuing hostages in the Entebbe terrorist hi jacking. To suggest he’d betray his own people and his brother’s sacrifice is sick.

No security clearance necessary, just an open mind not polluted by political bias.

Yes the 9/11 conspiracy theorists have never explained where all the people, many of those children, disappeared to if they weren’t on the passenger jets flown into the twin towers.

I assume you're accusing me of political bias. All I was doing was giving a link to the report. I first read about it in the Times of Israel and then noticed it had been reported in many other media outlets throughout the world.

The reaction of some in the Israeli press was that the attack was a failure of Israeli intelligence. Netanyahu was already under pressure from opponents. He would obviously not admit to any failure. Egypt didn't give any details about what they allegedly knew and didn't make it public until after the attack. For all I know, Egypt might give Israel numerous warnings which turn out to be false alarms. If this warning was ignored because it was thought it wasn't important, of course Netanyahu wouldn't admit it.

I am not biased. I am aware of the propaganda on both sides. Some of it is obvious, but in this case I haven't a clue and I doubt if anybody on GN can say for sure either.

It was reported in a large number of newspapers including the Telegraph, Guardian, Washington Post, Times of India etc etc and also on the BBC and CNN. There's a video on Al'Jezeera showing Hamas training for the assault and suggesting it was pretty common knowledge! I'm not suggesting that Netanyahu deliberately ignored the warning, perhaps the information didn't get through to him personally, who knows?
There's a lot of diplomatic activity going on though with a number of countries talking to Israel about staying within the law and also trying to find a diplomatic solution to this terrible situation, it's all in the public domain btw, I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that they do manage to find a way out of this dreadful situation and quickly!

Yes, I understand you would.

There is huge opposition to Netanyahu's ultright Governement and policies WITHIN Israel.

What is the most puzzling- is why Netanyahu is supported by other ultright parties and leaders from many parts of the world. Those involved in fascism- the very ones who would have been on the vastly wrong side from the 30s onwards. HOW?

Which leaders do you mean?
Do you have a list please?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 17-Oct-23 19:10:25

Fleurpepper Israel’s biggest supporter is USA

Are you now alleging Joe Biden is ultra right?

Callistemon21 Tue 17-Oct-23 19:15:53

🤔

Fleurpepper said those involved in fascism ^the very ones who would have been on the vastly wrong side from the 30s onward ie those, like Hitler, who wanted to exterminate the Jewish people?

Does that include the Democratic Party of the USA?

Is it just me who is confused?

No I am talking about other countries.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 17-Oct-23 19:20:48

Fleurpepper who are these other countries please.

A sweeping statement is not proof of anything

Galaxy Tue 17-Oct-23 19:21:10

Like Macron? I have never been keen on him but fascist seems a bit harsh.
To be fair fascism as a word does a lot of heavy lifting these days.

Usually by folks who have no idea what the word actually means

84 countries, including the USA, UK, Australia, Switzerland, Norway, the EU as an entity, support Israel.

Greenlighting genocide
The path to how we got here was paved by western politicians and the establishment media. They have been giving the green light to Israel to do as it pleases.

Keir Starmer, the Labour opposition leader and Britain’s likely next prime minister, forged the bipartisan political consensus in the UK last week by telling interviewers he supported Israel’s "right to defend itself" by implementing a "complete siege".

At least 500 killed Ireali bombed hospital Gaza.

There are rights and wrong on every side in a war situation.
Hamas shelters in hospitals and uses those who are there as human shields. ☹

However, a massacre and holding children hostage is a criminal act of magnitudinous proportions.

silverlining48 Tue 17-Oct-23 19:46:58

How long will Israel be allowed to excuse their behaviour by saying Hamas may be hiding among the people.
That is not the fault of the innocent civilians. They were told to leave their bombed homes, go to the south, then are bombed again, There is no escape, no water, energy, food, medical supplies. It’s inhumane.
Yes what Hamas did was also inhumane but these people who have now lost everything are not to blame any more than the Israeli victims are.

Callistemon21 Tue 17-Oct-23 19:54:39

And still Hamas won't release the hostages.
