A second thread to share our thoughts and prayers on this moving situation

Whitewavemark2 Sun 22-Oct-23 06:52:17

Just watching the King of Jordan’s speech at the Cairo peace summit.

He utterly condemns Israel, saying it guilty of heinous war crimes and demands an immediate end to the collective punishment of blanket bombing.

Jordan - Israel’s immediate neighbour - has long been critical of Israel’s expansionism into the left bank.
Jordan’s population is almost entirely Palestinian.

Retribution is an act undertaken in response to a violent act. It is undoubtedly behind most conflicts.

When you don’t know what you’re talking about it’s best to keep quiet. Retribution is not a response to a violent act. Retribution comes from Latin for giving back what’s due either reward or punishment. Therefore, you cannot argue that you have stated several times that the savagery visited on over 1400 innocent people on 7/10, was justified.

As for the rest of your post, it’s word salad and an indication your argument’s run out of steam.

I know. I’ve observed same many times.

I’ve never argued that Israel are innocent of wrongdoing but as we’ve all seen anti semitism is alive and well and it takes very little for it to come out from the shadows.

You say this as if it’s some sort of big surprise, of course he would say that wouldn’t he?

It’s alive and kicking everywhere, sometimes dressed up and sometimes masked and sometimes naked, but it’s there alright!

As tickingbird and Rosie state, anti semitism is alive and well. It’s so entrenched that it’s normalised.

Totally agree

I also agree with other posters that antisemitism is alive and well and is barely disguised in some posts on this thread.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 22-Oct-23 09:47:28

Please to see that the first 20 trucks have entered Gaza, but saddened to hear that it is unlikely to be repeated today.

Why not ?

I assume that you are not conflating criticism of the Israeli state action with criticism of Jews?

However you MUST call out anti-semitism on such a thread as this. And it needs both showing up and reporting.

Listening to an ex Israeli PM, very interested

Has that been reported?

Galaxy Sun 22-Oct-23 09:54:58

Sorry posted too soon.
Another poster pointed out that high up in the democratic party there were lots of Jews (paraphrasing here)
I pointed out the antisemitism and was told it was ridiculous thse posts had been deleted.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 22-Oct-23 09:55:22

If not I will do so.

Galaxy Sun 22-Oct-23 09:55:46

I reported them and was told by FP that there was nothing wrong with those posts. They were both deleted.

Galaxy Sun 22-Oct-23 09:58:13

Also there were antisemitism chants/signs on the March, I dont hold anyone on this thread responsible for that obviously. People are frightened.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 22-Oct-23 09:58:31

Ok now I’m completely muddled😄😄😄.

I think that anti-semitism or racism (in the Palestinian context) E.g. “they are all the same” in the event of a discussion about Hamas is wrong. And should be called out and where possible deleted.

Agree

Thousands are protesting in many countries for rights and freedom of Palestinians Israel must Stop the bombardment of innocent Palestinians Israel must let all lorries with water food in, end the occupation and Apartheid.
Protesters were saying governments should look towards peace talks find a solution. They said the government leaders must Stop spouting the same rhetoric about Israel arming them standing with them politically economicaly we want peace for Israel and Palistine. Leaders must listen and work towards peace.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-Oct-23 10:06:32

Whitewavemark2 it was Natahlie Bennet, he was adamant that Hamas will be destroyed, despite using civilians as human shields.

One of the panelist’s (missed their first name ** Sebag Montefiore ) referred to an interview on an Arab Station with a Saudi interviewer with a Hamas representative who when asked about the coming bloodshed referred to Russia losing 30 million to defeat Germany, and that Hamas/Islam will defeat the Jews regardless.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-Oct-23 10:10:44

Grany I assume you know that Hamas is continuing to shell Israel?

Wouldn’t it be a good idea for them to stop also?

Wouldn’t it be preferable to release the hostages (youngest of who is a five month old baby)?

Wouldn’t it occur to them that if they did any of the above it would lead to a more stable situation?

No of course not as they want to destroy Israel and then move on to removing every Jew from the planet…

maddyone Sun 22-Oct-23 10:56:23

Very sadly, I agree with your post GrannyGravy.
I say sadly because until the shelling stops and the hostages are released, I’m sure we will not move forward.

For myself, I have noted, but not reported, some posts which seemed to me to be antisemitic. Others have reported it appears.

Honestly you do try don't you tickingbird fortunately language has moved on and we no longer rely on Latin (which is a dead language)
Dictionary definition
retribution
/ˌrɛtrɪˈbjuːʃn/
noun
punishment inflicted on someone as vengeance for a wrong or criminal act.
I don't think I have said any violence was justified I have said it was understandable. Perhaps you should look up both those words as you obviously can't distinguish between them

Glorianny Sun 22-Oct-23 11:36:26

If the references to anti-semitism refer to my posts about Israel on this thread I would point out that not all Jews believe in the way the state of Israel is acting, and that some very orthodox Jews do not believe the state of Israel is necessary or desirable. I suppose though thinking all Jewish people believe exactly the same things is a form of anti-semitism.
