It lives on in so many languages today, including English and we use Latin phrases as a matter of course too.

A dead language is not a language that is no longer used it is a language which never changes.
English is a living language which changes the use of words- like "Awful" which originally meant something which filled you with awe but has been changed to something you don't like, or "sick" which means different things to different generations,

You beat me to it.
Latin lives on in the law, medicine, naming of flora & fauna etc…

Oh you display an alarming lack of self awareness, you really do.
When you’ve dug yourself into a hole, stop digging as you certainly aren’t covering yourself in glory on this thread despite your chosen name.

I've no desire to cover myself in glory simply to look at a complicated and difficult problem which has cost so many lives since 1948, and will, I'm sad to say, go on costing lives because of entrenched attitudes, and an inability to see the other's point of view. There's nothing glorious about war or in my posts about this conflict.

a language which is no longer in everyday spoken use, such as Latin.
a language which is no longer in everyday spoken use, such as Latin.
But is the basis for much of the language we use today.

dead language
noun
a language which is no longer in everyday spoken use, such as Latin.
It is spoken every day, in medicine, in courts of law in lectures at universities.
It might not be spoken on the streets, but it is not dead.
It’s all deflection anyway
Glroianny getting back to the OP.
Do you not think that if Hamas would stop shelling Israel and return the hostages it would be a good basis to start negotiations?
I continue to wonder how come Hamas could smuggle in so much weaponry, munitions along with the raw materials to make rockets etc., but were unable to smuggle in food, medicine and the basics for the civilian population that elected them albeit many years ago…

^A dead language is not a language that is no longer used it is a language which never changes.^
Language changes because it is spoken everyday. A dead language is not spoken everyday (a few Latin phrases in the Law and medicine is not every day speech) and therefore never changes. The two are dependant not different.
A Roman dropped into the 21st century would understand the Latin used in law.
Much of the language used in Shakespeare has to be explained to 21st century readers

But Hamas firing rockets into Israel is not having the same devastating effect as the Israeli bombing which has now extended from Gaza into Syria and the West bank. Over 4000 are dead. There are said to be 130 premature babies at risk in Gaza hospitals because Israel will not permit fuel to enter.
A cease fire requires a commitment from both sides and there is no evidence that either intends to stop.
Why should Hamas if Israel won't?
Glorianny when you have finished with your attempt to deflect from the OP, perhaps you will answer the question I asked in my post of 12.32.14 today?

Ok crossed posts.
Hamas started this sequence of events on 7/10.
Do you seriously expect Israel to put his hands up and let Hamas and now Hezbollah continue to fire rockets into Israel without any response?
I was told upthread that it is impossible to differentiate between what is true and what is propaganda.
This applies to both sides of this conflict, Israel is being attacked by two different proscribed terrorist organisations, it has a right to defend itself.
I hope Israel does not commit any war crimes, unfortunately the same cannot be said for Hamas which has committed some of the most heinous acts on Jews not seen since the holocaust.

No, I think I've posted before I don't expect this conflict to cease and if it does it will be a temporary peace. I think Israel will continue to expand and to restrict and confine Palestinians in the area. I think they will do so in the belief that they can somehow contain and eliminate the problem. I think it will get worse as exiled Palestinians and other Arab states continue to fund Hamas and other groups. I think the death toll will continue to rise. I do hope I'm wrong, but I fear I'm actually right.

Sorry GG13 Amnesty International has already published evidence of Israeli war crimes www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2023/10/damning-evidence-of-war-crimes-as-israeli-attacks-wipe-out-entire-families-in-gaza/
I have seen that report Glorianny
I would like to see Hamas take some responsibility for using the civilians who elected them to power as human shields thereby condemning hundred of innocents to death.
In my opinion they are as guilty if not more so than the soldier that launched the missile.

By your reasoning that’s just retribution so entirely understandable.

Of couse it's understandable but let's not try to say there is some drastic difference between Israel and Hamas in war, because there isn't.
Except perhaps that Israel has more firepower.

Well I'd like to see Israel take more responsibility for treating Palestinians as second class citizens and blockading Gaza GG13 but I suspect we are both doomed to disappointment.

And that Hamas terrorise their own people as well as Israelis. That’s a crucial difference.

Oh come on Glorianny there is a huge difference between Hamas and Israel
Hamas uses its citizens along with hostages as human shields, it has done absolutely nothing to prepare any shelters for the civilian population whilst stockpiling weaponry.
Israel has got shelters and is not using its population as human shields.

No Israel protects Israelis. However it kills Palestinians quite indiscriminately, and not just by bombing, or in war. So is it OK to protect your own people but slaughter others?
Like the 130 premature babies who will die because there is no fuel.
