Well their aims originally stated in 1988, were apparently to re-gain possession of their holy land, and the only way they could see this happening was to eradicate the Israelis from Palestine.

There is nothing in these stated aims to suggest that they would not stop there, although I’m sure it is open to debate,

Joe Biden is flying into Israel tomorrow, makes me think that Israel will not start their ground offensive before then.

There is no way that POTUS would be flying in if there was a risk to his life.

Whitewavemark2 unfortunately the ordinary people have no sway apart from at elections. Gaza hasn’t had elections since 2007 I think, at least Israel has regular elections.

Does that mean that as long as a far right government, which will and does introduce and pass legislation, which will damage and discriminate against certain people, based on their ethnic origins and their religious beliefs, is an elected government that is OK? Isn't that approving of fascism?

Hamas have been launching missiles into Israel for years, is it any wonder that Israel tried to clear parts of Gaza of its inhabitants who as we know harbour the terrorists, some willingly.

Of course it is up to the individual but many Jews will tell you that the far right extremist parties which represent sections of Judaism which are extreme and not representative of most Jewish people are favoured and beginning to dominate in Israel. They do not want Arabs in the country, they do not approve of Christians, they operate "Family friendly" policies which basically means they are against gay freedoms. They are a scary bunch and they have gained ground this year. Perhaps that s why Hamas acted.

The eradication of Palestinians is the Israeli GOVERNMENT aim ,is that to be excused .They've been working towards it for decades with NO interference from the western world.
I have already said that I march for Palestine as do many Scottish jews ,my cousin who married a jewish woman and converted amongst them .Its not antisemitic to support Palestine we are against only the government of Israel not the people .
I have seen no posts supporting Hamas on here ,no antisemitism just people offering some support to Palestinians who have been treated appallingly for decades .There is no excuse for the Hamas attack but the Israeli reaction IS a war crime and must be condemned

I think I know what Hamas want in the immediate future, but when we had terrorist attacks in London, in particular on 7th July 2005 with over 50 left dead, followed by other attacks in London which killed others, the Manchester Arena bombing killing 22 people, the twin towers attack with 3000 plus dead, the attack on a beach in Tunisia, the awful Parisian shootings leaving 130 dead, plus the Charlie Hebdo shooting leaving 12 dead, along with a multitude of so called ‘lone wolf’ attacks all over Europe, after all this I genuinely wonder what exactly the radicalised terrorists want, and how well they are supported by their friends and colleagues. Hamas, ISIS, the Taliban, the fanatics in Iran and Saudi. They all apparently want a Jew free world, and also preferably a Christian free world, because we are all infidels. The Coptic Christians were slaughtered unmercifully in Egypt by ISIS.
I don’t know what the answer is. Some on here seem to think they know the answer to the Palestinian situation, but what about everything else? I think it’s simplistic to think that if this, or that, or the other happened, it would all be well. Israel is unfortunately, only the tip of the iceberg.

I’ve been wondering where certain posters were over the last 9-10 days. Some are usually very vocal on the N&P threads. I did wonder if the massacre by Hamas and the outrage of most on here had put them off posting their normal hard left anti Israel vitriol. I knew the apologists would arrive at some point.

Perhaps that s why Hamas acted.

Fleurpepper I have just found an article in The Guardian referring to Egypt warning Israel of an imminent attack.

This has been refuted by the Israel Government and USA as fake news.

I would think Israel is used to rumours of attacks on them, it’s a way of life.

There were rumours of an increase in Hamas activity but no conclusive evidence of the extent of the attack or when it would happen.
