Johnson goes to Israel!

After his visit to Ukraine at the start of the war proved beneficial, Boris Johnson's current trip to Israel smells of desperation. Having been slammed by the recent Covid witnesses as chaotic, fickle, weak and incompetent, first he tried putting out a written defence. Now he’s gone off to Israel claiming to show support for the Netanyahu government. Why? It’s not his role. He can add nothing. Who is paying - flight, security etc? Of course, its us the tax payers. As Netanyahu's future looks less secure, this can’t be seen as anything other than a weak man seeking any route to divert attention from his own current humiliation.

Really ?? Perhaps he should stay here and do a his lovely new jobs and look after his many children. He’s no longer a politician and should keep his blundering beak out, we all saw how much help he was to that poor woman arrested and imprisoned in Iraq (or was it Iran?) Can only assume the person who on here who stated he helped bring “peace” in Ireland and Yugoslavia was joshing ?? There is still no real peace in either of these regions !

He hasn't been any use in the UK so what is he going to contribute to help there ! Self serving politicians just make me so cross !

Incidentally, whilst no supporter of Hamas nor war, nor am I anti Israel, we would do well to remember that we, the UK, partially caused this situation in the first place by our meddling then backing off and handing it to the UN. Every nation has the right to defend itself, I’d suggest Israel are going far far further than simply defending themselves and that Palenstinians also have the right to live peacefully somewhere.

Blinko

Ah, feted for his diplomacy skills, now. Of course he covered himself with glory as Foreign Secretary, didn’t he? Tell that to Nazanin Zachariah Ratcliffe.

President Zelensky seems to have dumped Boris, so he needs somewhere else to play ‘World Statesman’.

Bella23 Mon 06-Nov-23 12:41:35

Maybe he has gone to block a Hamas tunnel, he likes to be in the limelight he won't be able to resist if they show him one.
Just picture him stuck half out with his fluffy duckling hair spouting something Churchilian. Maybe Carrie has suggested it as a good holiday spot for him and a bit of peace for her. He certainly won't be helping bring about peace.

What good do these foreign politicians hope to do by visiting war zones. It smacks of 'rubber necking' by people in cars passing a road traffic accident.
They must waste time and money for the countries having to accommodate them.

Lovetopaint037 Mon 06-Nov-23 13:55:02

Anything to burnish his image. Churchill to the rescue. Heaven help the poor Middle East. Perhaps The Telegraph is paying for it.

I find this gossipy speculative and very subjective discussion inappropriate and offensive,

GrauntyHelen Mon 06-Nov-23 14:12:56

Just when I thought things couldn't get worse!!

polly123 Mon 06-Nov-23 14:42:43

At least he is consistent. Meddling and self important despite everything. Yes, take his passport away to avoid more of the same.

You say Johnsons visit to Isreal will accomplish nothing and that it isn't his role, do you mean like it is not Blairs role to talk to Starmer?

How have you drawn that parallel Eejit? Ex PM goes to a foreign country with no official remit to offer his advice, versus ex PM is asked to advise new leader of his party on becoming PM. Spot the difference?

Well said fancythat. 👍

* The issue the majority is struggling with is when does defence stop and genocide begin.*

That is what I am beginning to think.

When you’ve cut off the head of the snake.

MerylStreep Mon 06-Nov-23 16:09:12

If Israel wanted to commit genocide it would have done so the week after 7th October.

I assume that is a joke.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 06-Nov-23 17:56:25

Mr.Johnson has made a statement aired on i24 should be available on Utube.

I despair

Haven't they got enough problems already without the blonde buffoon making things worse!

montymops Mon 06-Nov-23 18:12:06

The Covid inquiry is descending into finger pointing gossip. The real practical issues which may help in any future pandemic are not being addressed. Daniel Hannan writes a very interesting article in last Sundays Telegraph which is quite supportive of Boris.

Marilla Mon 06-Nov-23 18:41:13

Valchoc, you cannot serious in asking if someone on Gransnet could do a better job than Boris.
A little churlish.
I might suggest you listen carefully to the evidence from the Covid Enquiry and see if you still admire and defend Johnson.

I quite agree.

Anniel Mon 06-Nov-23 19:31:18

For goodness sake ofcourse we are not paying for his trip! Sunsk is not exactly his mate! He may be going ro write about yhe conflict and accordng to my latest tory neesletter most of us support Israel so it does not surprise me. Shame there is not a thread about the pro Palestinians clogging up London on a daily basis. Do any of these people have jobs? To me Armistice day is a special occasion and the majority of the population will not mind if the march is banned on that day. It is sn outrage that they could spoil this solemn and moving occasion. This city is London not Islamabad! Boris is a busted flush and does not need any publicity!

MayBee70 Mon 06-Nov-23 20:01:15

But we’re paying for his security. And, of course, he has the ex PM’s pension that Thatcher arranged for ex PM’s to have.
