Following the defacing of a Cenotaph in Rotherham yesterday, would it be advisable for the police to rule that marches in or around the area of the Cenotaph should not be allowed, this weekend only?
A poppy seller was attacked by people in a huge crowd this week, people who have been marching on previous weekends have committed hate crimes by calling for Jews to be eliminated. Should the sanctity of the Cenotaph and the Remembrance Service be at the mercy of the marchers to choose to do the right thing? Why was a Cenotaph thought to be a legitimate target in Rotherham?
Surely those who live in our liberal democracy should understand why this weekend is particularly special to so many people. Those of us who live in this country, a liberal democracy, should understand that compared to so many people in the world, we are very lucky to live in a country that affords us great freedoms, including the right to protest peacefully. Peaceful protest however, does not include the right to call for the deaths of other people, to attack poppy sellers or others, or to deface public buildings.
Why are the London police refusing to use the laws that are already available to ban any marching around this area for for this one weekend?

It wasn't Braverman who suggested that veterans should not wear their medals or uniforms in London this weekend.
It was an Army Colonel, I believe.
If the march is peaceful or a vigil, then that should be fine, however, the organisers may find that it could be disrupted by some with different motives.

Those that we are remembering this weekend died for freedom and peace.
I am sure that they would be totally in favour of anyone exercising their freedom of speech peacefully this weekend - particularly the peace March that goes nowhere near, nor ever intended to go near the cenotaph. These peace marches have been entirely peaceful for the past month, there is no reason why they shouldn’t be so tomorrow.
I would certainly have no hesitation in going to London.
I would have agreed with you till I read that Tommy Robinson is going to be there. I’m still fuming over the Daily Mail headline which said ‘if you come for Suella you come for all of us’. How dare they assume that everyone in this country country agrees with her? Mind you, Carol Malone echoed that on Sky News last night which got me even madder. But then, she would, wouldn’t she
. Tomorrow is a day for remembering everyone that has lost their lives through war and that includes the Israelis that died and the Palestinians that are dying now.
Its a very sad time in my life to see people believe that marching to "commemorate" the dead takes precedence over marching to save lives ...innocent lives. The dead are long gone their families will always mourn them t doesn't have to be a huge commemoration EVERY year .
I come from a family who never wore poppies or visited a cenotaph ,there were 6 uncles and my dad went to war the ones who came back all came home with mental or physical disabilities ,two never returned.
They were all loved but LIFE ,women and babies, innocents ,doctors in hosptals lives are far more important than people who are dead ...or have we learned nothing from war that we still glorify it with this yearly spectacle .
I stand for LIFE not death .I stand WITH Palestine.
Its that old dont bring me flowers when I'm dead thing my mother used to say,do what you can for me while I',m alive
She hasnt though has she. That's the point I was making, if the polls I have seen are correct, that just shows the telegraph is out of touch with the general public. Lets face it, it wouldnt be the first time.
Headline in the Telegraph "Pound shop Enoch Powell’ Suella Braverman has offended ‘just about everyone’"
That's hardly the left speaking.
Are you joking. Three people on the marches have been arrested for terrorism offences.
GrannyGravy13
Suella Braverman’s husband is Jewish.
Maybe that’s why her sentiments lay with Israel.
(He has described himself in the past as a proud Jew and Zionist)
She is the Home Secretary. If she can't manage her "sentiments" she should resign.

First they came for those who would speak out for peace.
Braverman knows she will loose her chance to become the next leader of the Far-right and the Tories if the court find against her on Wednesday.
This wicked women is acting purely for her own selfish aims. She wants to be proved right so has stirred this up. She h3asn't a diplomatic bone in her body, only those of a selfish, would-be Oligarchs who wants to rule, not serve.

No other events are expected !
Police guarding the Cenotaph, why ?
Because it's their job to be cautious and there is a very good chance Braverman will have stirred up the far right - just as she hopes to.

Dear God the left in particular never shut up about the inherent bias of the police. It's one of their most familiar chants.
They are rather biased - against anyone with a dark skin and indeed anyone who look s out of the ordinary because they are bound to be up to no good.
I read journalists, media and the police objects to the ban. Is it any wonder. The journalists enjoys making up stories. The media, newspapers, TVs and other reporting sources wants terrible news like retail stores broken in and items burgled. Then, they want the marches and other hooligans to overturn and burn vehicles, including property damaged. All these happening because Mark Rowdy wants to be sacked and enjoy retirement to approve the march. The police, aaaah the police and Mark Rowdy wants overtime for him and his men. They want the public to appraise their being the heroes, NOT! One more thing, the media faked their stories with polls and found the publish want the march to go ahead. But independent survey by many sources said, 75% or more public want the march banned.
Biased rather than unbiased

Well that's probably dangerous in itself the figures that I can see show overwhelming support for Braverman, when the majority of the population holds views very different from views held by the majority of the institutions of power, well we are going to end up in a right mess.
I am centre left, the idea that the police, in particular the met police, operate in an unbiased way has been demonstrated for years, long before braverman started spouting about it.

Veterans have been advised not to wear their medals for their own safety.
Will they take any notice?
I'm sure those I know would ignore that advice.

No people are able to make decisions without being described as being in a moral panic. Just because people have different views to you does not mean they are unable to think for themselves. My guess is I have much more experience of masked men on marches than you do.
I do not know of any other minorities whose fears would be dismissed in this way.
😄 you have no idea of my experiences, and would probably be surprised if you knew!
I am not dismissing minority fears, but I am dismissing those whose agenda is to stoke these fears, causing moral panic.

Really Namsnanny ? That’s disgraceful. I hope they wear their medals with pride and aren’t cowed by threats. Medals show that the wearer (or their deceased spouse or other close relative) fought for the freedom of this country and others. They should not be targets for violence.

There is a lot of needless moral panic taking place.
Induced by a number players all with a vested interest in rousing emotions and fear.
People need to calm down and think more rationally.
Have you been into London just after one of these peace marches has finished?
I have.
GrannyGravy13
Anniebach
Exactly GrannyGravy yet the Cenotaph is under 24 hour police guard because of Robinson, so not true
Peace March ? ‘From the river to the sea’,Yep, I wonder if all who join the chants know the relevance of that phrase.
They should by now because it's been explained on tv and radio many, many times.
