The UN is inviting countries to add tangible or intangible examples of our cultural heritage to a list they are compiling.

So we can add examples like Pantomime, Morris dancing, folk lore etc.

I think that I would add English literature -

Agree, and yet, most countries can boast 'literature' too.

Which country ?

I think that as it will be the UK government they will be asking for representation from all 4 countries.

I think that we can claim both cricket (started in the Weald) and soccer as our cultural heritage.

Don’t they have more important things to do, and to spend their money on, especially at the moment?

maddyone Sat 23-Dec-23 13:34:22

Agree with Whitewave re football and cricket, but also rugby, played a lot in Wales, but it actually started, so I’m told, at Rugby School. Cricket started off properly at Hambledon, which is about ten minutes from where I live.

Fish and chips isn’t really a U.K. dish it has been appropriated from other cultures I believe Portugal and also from Jewish immigrants and adapted

BlueBelle Sat 23-Dec-23 13:38:57

I agree GSM (this is getting a bit if a habit now, us agreeing I mean) what a waste of time, money and resources
I believe curry is the favourite national dish now!
If we live in a multicultural society, why are we looking at things like tea drinking or dancing round the maypole in long skirts and daisy chains around our heads ??and what’s the point

Yes definitely some Celtic heritage should be included.

I find culture and cultural norms fascinating.

I took part in an interesting experiment at university, which was used by the USA military to teach their officers about the complexity of culture.

You were introduced to a group of people who were told how to act to just 6 simple cultural accepted practice. You as the stranger had no idea what they were. It was almost impossible to understand these rules. It is the nuances of these rules that were so difficult.

akimbo means stuck out on either side which means their bosoms must be in a very odd place
