As the cream is a butter substitute it must go on first, then the jam. For those that say jam first then cream is easier, when did 'easier' become the yardstick for doing it 'right' Devonshire family roots.

Yes thank you I did enjoy it particularly the company of my daughter. But I now have indigestion☹️, and still awake as a result.

The OP was a request for examples of our cultural heritage, and I think we discussed what makes us English on another thread. I added some very English events like Chelsea Flower Show, Ascot, The Boat Race, Wimbledon Tennis, Henley Regatta, The Grand National, and more.

Then there's our musical heritage, famous 20th century popular music, The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, and more. And literature, Shakespeare, Dickens and so on.

The first steam train was invented in Wales in 1804. Quite an achievement, along with several other inventions.

Really, there are so many. As a country we have always punched well above our weight, probably due to our cold wet weather. We don't lie around sleeping all day, we keep busy inventing things, writing books, music etc.

Herdwick sheep, definitely. Castles, saying sorry when you are not the one at fault, lovely dry humour and quick witty repartees. Squirrels , and foxes, all over the place. The green fields that are small and enclosed. Cream first for me but most here have jam first. Love of animals, especially dogs.

The things I mentioned are world famous English events and part of our cultural heritage. Football has its own category because football events are never ending, and the other two are not events. Fishing has been carried out in every country in the world since the beginning of time!

And while football and fishing may be world wide they are still part of our culture. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised t find that the spread of football world wide had it's origins in being introduced to many countries by the Brits when they were part of the British Empire...
