What is it with this man and his runaway mouth
So it seems in ‘private’ and ‘in jest’ it’s said this man has joked about giving his wife Rohypnol ‘in a small amount of course hahaha’
Can he really stay on with so little thought in what he says

Hope the link works looks a bit long

His comments would be disgusting and unacceptable from any one. This level of casual misogyny is hard to believe from any man let alone the Home Secretary at a Downing Street function. He’s ’apologised’ whilst pointing out he thought he was having a private conversation

He should resign or better yet, Sunak should sack him. His comments wouldn’t be out of place in those misplaced groups for sex offenders, that were found to make things work.

If you are a polititian there is no such thing as privacy or loyalty, someone will betray you

Do you see this as disloyal Katie59?
I see it as in the public interest to ensure we know how the man leading the campaign against spiking feels about it.

I think Katie means that Cleverly might see it as disloyal that someone spoke out, not us. We would view it as public duty but I don't suppose he would.

Yes, that’s my thought Chestnut. He was at a work function, presumably because he’s Home Secretary. In his role and at Downing Street he’s always on duty. What a fool not to realise this. Even bigger fool for not appearing to realise ‘jokes’ about sedating women are offensive from anyone. Unacceptable snd a signing matter from the HS

Galaxy Sun 24-Dec-23 15:50:16

I am not particularly offended but I find it very very weird.

Iam64 Sun 24-Dec-23 16:15:08

I find it incomprehensible that this man had no idea of the significance of his comments

Grammaretto Sun 24-Dec-23 16:24:27

Absolutely Iam64 along with Boris, Mone, Dorries etc.
I can almost hear the words of a song

Jimmy Dimly strikes again.

Politicians should realise that things they do and say are usually captured one way or another. So many of them have written stupid things on social media, said or done stupid things in front of cameras and in meetings and interviews. Firstly they are giving themselves away, secondly they need sacking for being so stupid! We expect and deserve our politicians to be intelligent people of integrity, honest and trustworthy, not stupid idiots who think and behave like teenagers.

I do believe Cleverley is unfit to be Home Sec.

Glorianny Sun 24-Dec-23 16:53:59

I would imagine Sunak's problem if he sacked Cleverley would be who would replace him?? It's already a cabinet of few talents rapidly deteriorating into a Cabinet of no talents

Delila Sun 24-Dec-23 17:17:52

He’s a very puffed-up sort of personality, devoid of integrity. Given enough rope he’ll hang himself, if he hasn’t done so already. I hope he has, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s quietly dropped, with no repercussions.

He may have thought he was having a private conversation but that does not in any way excuse what he said and, apparently, considered humorous.

merlotgran Sun 24-Dec-23 18:47:43

I was almost as furious with the News presenter (not one I recognised) who, at the end of the report, said, ‘Well at least he’s apologised.’

So that’s alright then! 😡

Iam64 Sun 24-Dec-23 19:08:38

Exactly Merlotgran. He also kind of apologised for calling the town a sh**hole, said he’d called the MP a sh**hole, so that’s alright then.
Who sets standards ?
