People obviously remember what the US was like under Trump, before Biden destroyed it.

There are 161 million registered voters in the USA

www.statista.com/statistics/273743/number-of-registered-voters-in-the-united-states/

So the 70 million Ttump fanatics should not be able to inflict cahos on the USA and thje rest of the world

*Do Americans realise how despised and ridiculed Trump is in other countries?*

I think that sort of comment drives a few people to vote for Trump.

It's not great to just sit on high horses and disrespect approximately 70 million people

Generally I’d agree but a large percentage of that 70 million hold absolutely despicable views. Can’t forget those shining examples at the Unite the Right rally or the Insurrection.

GSM I wonder if the UK needs to become more insular? I read that the army is short of soldiers and conscription is put forward as a possible solution.
Maybe time to reconsider our lack of personnel and let Ukraine and Putin fight their own battles for example?
I don’t think that sending off our sons and grandsons to fight in Ukraine/Russia is going to be much of a vote winner should it happen !

They are only short of soldiers because of their ridiculous diversity quotas. Haven't you heard of them banning decent white personnel. "White men no longer want to fight for a nation that scores them", from Sky News.
White pilots described by the RAF as useless, in a drive for impossible diversity quotas. As someone whose family are RAF, step father bomb disposal, I find this extremely insulting to all those brave men who are or were in
the Armed services.

Burt they are only a minority of Americans.

The sane majority needs to defeat them.

Are you the real RonSwanson?

Indeed. Sitting here with Leslie Knope and Tom A. Haverford. They say ‘hello’ grin.

I am on the left and am increasingly utterly disillusioned with those who talk about voters in this way so goodness knows how they feel.

ronib Wed 24-Jan-24 18:46:20

Freya5 yes it is very insulting.
It does beg the question though as to how personnel will be selected in the future. I can’t understand how anyone could say that a white pilot is useless. In what way are they useless? Do they have any evidence of incompetence or is it just a sad sign of the times?

silverlining48 Wed 24-Jan-24 19:44:42

Without being insulting about those who Vote for trump, it is very hard to understand how a person like him can possibly have so much support.

People interviewed on tv sometimes say they don’t like him yet when asked if they will vote for him they say YES! Inexplicable.
Surely there are people in the USA, years younger than these two elderly, increasingly frail men, capable of governing in these difficult and dangerous times.

I agree.

I wonder if it might be better to be positive about Nikky Haley. She is young, clever, and well spoken, a lovely change -- don't count her out.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Jan-24 20:29:44

Such is the influence of the USA that the choice of president does impact on many other nations. So please extend your gaze if you can

Exactly ronib my point entirely. However I was castigated on here recently for taking an interest when I didn’t live or vote in America!

Louella12 Wed 24-Jan-24 20:32:26

Do Anericans get so energised about our Prime Minister choices?

Galaxy Wed 24-Jan-24 20:35:20

It's not as important to the world. We can pretend it is but not sure what the point would be.

caknib Wed 24-Jan-24 20:35:25

Oh let's cut to the chase. Trump appeals to fascists and racists.

Urmstongran Wed 24-Jan-24 20:35:40

Probably not Louella we are tiny by comparison and have very little clout globally.

I did contemplate reporting your post.
Then I thought ‘no, let it stand’. I shall just enjoy my mug of Horlicks instead and treat that post instead with the contempt it deserves.

Louella12 do Americans know who our prime minister is? Must admit it is a bit hard to keep up .

On what grounds would you report it? Genuinely interested!

With the current state of tensions along with wars being waged on multiple fronts we should all be aware of the USA election.

The POTUS, whoever it may be has a major stake and sway across the globe.

A sad sign of the times unfortunately.

Pleased to say the RAF were found to have unlawfully discriminated in their plan to boost diversity. 31 men were paid compensation. Wether they chose to continue to work in a career were they were made to feel inadequate, I can't find.

Trump promised a lot of things. Did he actually deliver on any of them? The wall for example?

Perhaps you could look it up. There are videos to watch were he tells reporters what he did. I looked out of curiosity.

I thought some of the American gransnetters would be able to tell me. I wouldn’t believe anything he said he’d achieved.
