People obviously remember what the US was like under Trump, before Biden destroyed it.

Just your friendly remind that Trump didn’t win the popular vote in 2016, even if he did win the Electoral College vote.

Apology. I see you posted 2016.

Indeed, Trump won electoral whilst Clinton won popular vote.

What EVER did Biden destroy ? He has improved the lifestyle and brought sanity back to the USA. The Daily Mail writes so many falsehoods about what the USA is like ( in the negative) since Biden that you will never get facts there. You will get factually incorrect wind you ups . Rmstongran you spout as if you have some sort of knowledge of USA life, but you don’t. Trump is a dangerous leader who uses the same tactics as Hitler did when speaking. Native New Yorker here.

I don't understand why anyone thinks a narcissistic, sociopathic grifter is someone they would like as a leader of a country. Do their supporters have the same characteristics? confused

NO.

'Biden ultimately received the majority in the Electoral College with 306 electoral votes, while Trump received 232.'

'Biden Popular Votes 81,282,916. Trump popular votes 74,223,369.'

Aren't you et your elections a bit muddled, Norah?

Biden didn't stand in 2016. It was Clinton who won the popular vote.

I can't understand anyone supporting a candidate who was prepared to refuse to accept the result of the 2020 election, to the extent of inciting insurrection. US democracy is dead if Trump wins.

And Biden has done very well for the US economy.

Indeed.

I self quickly corrected.

2016: Clinton won popular and lost electoral.

I fail to understand why any woman could support this appalling misogynist.

Syracuse it's good to hear from an American citizen on this issue. I have read through the thread and my opinion if Trump stands. He is a dangerous man and should never be elected again.

^Take out the "I think" and you are left with - "the world is a safer place with Trump leading it"^

That’s my point. It was an opinion, not a statement. You clearly don’t know the difference.

I think you’re the one who should be apologising.

I think you're being obtuse.

The World is not led by Trump.
The World is not led by Trump.
The World is not led by Trump.

That isn't an opinion, it's a fact.

AmberSpyglass Tue 16-Jan-24 15:59:06

Norah, I’m talking about Hilary in 2016 not the most recent election.

AmberSpyglass Tue 16-Jan-24 15:59:29

Yep, just seen your correction!

If the dreaded trump is re-elected I foresee disaster in the USA. How anyone can support this man in the light of all that is known about him is unbelievable. Any person who can’t accept that they have made mistakes or that they have lost, is surely beyond redemption. He is evil, despicable and border-line fascist.

Anyone one from the NYC / New Jersey area would have nothing good to say about Trump , his ego , his slum lord tactics and cheating of contractors that built his various building . He is a crook and to somehow equate him with religious groups that emulate him is the biggest joke of all . His supporters are not the brightest . That is for all to see when they are interviewed .

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-Jan-24 16:19:25

Well said.

I do like reading some of the political threads[not all], on GN.
In real life, I find myself withdrawing from watching world events and politics, to some degree. Partly because I feel disallusioned, I part feel like I have heard it all before, and also a part of it all, is time/priority, issue.

But at least on threads like this[I include the recent Houthis thread], I can quite quickly see differing points of view.

I am fed up of switching on a news channel[more or less all of them] and them being so one sided, one way or another. Tedious.

A nation of some 350 million people and they can't find better candidates than Trump and Biden!

I couldn’t agree more. Surely there must be two suitable candidates who are not either an elderly criminal or seemingly suffering from dementia. Someone in their late forties/early fifties would be ideal. The trouble is that while we have no say in the matter, the USA is a superpower and what affects them affects the rest of the world. I have always thought that a Republican president is generally bad news for the rest of the world and Donald Trump is beyond the pale but he has no strong opposition.

silverlining48 Tue 16-Jan-24 16:41:40

Where do up you start with someone like trump. If he wasn’t so potentially dangerous he would be a joke. A total embarrassment.
I am astonished that people would vote for such an inadequate man to be leader of one of the most powerful countries in the world. Words-fail.

NanKate Tue 16-Jan-24 16:45:05

The future for the poor Ukrainians is in doubt if Trump gets in and abandons them. Putin must be rubbing his hands with glee.

The money from the USA is vital.

If Putin wins our safety in the United Kingdom is in jeopardy.

vegansrock Tue 16-Jan-24 16:48:37

Those who vote for Trump
Are mostly white, blue collar workers without a college education and more males than females. Interesting demographic.

LovesBach Tue 16-Jan-24 16:57:14

Trump's late sister said he is a dangerous liar. He has been found liable for a sexual assault on a journalist. He has incited violence when a democratic vote did not suit him. His ranting is truly worrying - and yet so many vote for him. A colleague was in America on business when Trump won the Presidential Election; she said everywhere she went over the next few days people were aghast, and asking how it had happened.

Yes. I suppose the answer is that these voters don’t think he is a misogynist they see someone entirely of their own making.

Beats me. His language alone tells me all I need to know about him. But we’re all different. I don’t like Farage or Johnson either and he’s in the same camp as them divide and rule.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-Jan-24 17:05:09

Yes, he and Farage are pretty close. But Urms says she will vote for Farage’s ‘party’, Reform. At least Farage hasn’t a hope in hell of forming a government or even being invited into a coalition. Hopefully Johnson is political toast.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 16-Jan-24 17:07:28

I see Farage was with Trump yesterday.
