But you thought it was probably a far-right proposal.
It isn't.
Bristol Council has been Labour for years, now Labour/Green.
According to many reports, they have been failing people with disabilities for years.

It is a far right proposal though 🤷‍♀️

What I have learned this past decade is that anything is possible - even the unthinkable.

Good post flappergirl. As to the OP; the Torygraph has always been a right leaning newspaper, owned for many years by the non domiciled Barclay brothers, now up for sale along with its sister publication The Spectator.

It's very true that uneducated white men are more likely to be right wing and actually they have every reason to be worried.

Agencies such as the Police and Fire Service are being exposed as the worst extremes of mysogyny and in some cases heinous criminality.

Women now have greater autonomy over their own lives and hold positions of hierarchy as never before.

The MeToo Movement continues to call out sexual harrassment, dogma and bullying and has made it much harder for men to act with impunity.

The old order is under threat.

It’s sad to say, Jane but this has been spoken about for some time. The care system is broken ( I do speak from personal experience with a friend’s mother)
My friend was a manger in social services for some years, if she can’t get the help that’s needed then we are well and truely stuffed.
I know it’s awful what Bristol are proposing but what other options do they have 😥

Despite flappergirl's post showing advances women have made, men are still the dominant force in most areas of public life. As this 18 - 29 demographic becomes more active in public life will their 'conservative' views dominate?

And what about the generation coming along behind them?

Well, Poland drew back from the far right in their recent elections.

As I understand it Donald Tusk is now determinedly working to reverse the former Premier's moves to autocracy.

Is this a good omen for the future or a finger in a nearly overwhelmed dam?

Telegraph is extremely R wing at the moment.They're gunning for Sunak, gunning for the assisted dying campaign. They are getting behind Reform UK for the next election. Some of the editorial is just a joke, as they twist arguments to try & make it fit their political agenda And the comments by readership are frequently offensively racist. I got a very cheap online subscription, I like obits and letters and crosswords and recipes / holidays, but I get very indignant on a daily basis, luckily don't think I have long left on my subs. I think the UK is becoming more R wing, I'm not sure why. Labour /left-leaning didn't used to be a joke / dirty word did it?It's a similar beleaguered feeling to that which some practising C of E adherents must feel.

We should all be concerned at the rise in Right Wing politics in Europe. That includes Poland where the right wing party lost its majority but still had the most votes. I think some of it is because of immigration. If people from other countries are prepared to work for peanuts it drives down wages, and in some countries they are housed over the heads of locals. It creates ill feeling. Not everyone wants to see their cultures diminished either. I’m not saying I agree or disagree but that, misogyny, bravado and this awful sense of entitlement that’s increasingly evident I believe are a big part of the problem.

Unless I’ve read it wrong, the graph still shows that the older you get the more right wing you are, and although there is a shift for men aged under 29 it’s not significant. It’s more likely to be a sign of the times they are experiencing at the moment, because the picture isn’t the same for women.

If we apply logic to that, then it means that Labour and Green proposals are far-right, ergo Labour and Greens are now far-right?

I was involved in setting up Independant Living for disabled people in Bristol At the time, it was costed as being cheaper than care in a residential home setting. It is worrying what standard of care is going to be provided in a residential setting if it's cheaper than the cost of PA's. (a lot of the admin that adds significantly to care staff costs is done by the disabled person themselves).If there really isn't the money for the most expensive Independant Living packages, then at least the people who have existing packages shoud be allowed to continue, with a change of care model only considered for new applicants or those with escalating care needs.

I did hear a tv commentator say he thought Labour would get in. They would mess things up. Then a right wing conservative government, then a further to the right, conservative governement.

But since nowadays, no one seems able to predict things even to the end of a year, I rather took it all with a pinch of salt.

Labour can’t possibly mess things up the way the Conservative government have been doing for the past few years…

I'm not quite sure which graph you're looking at, Casdon. The one I posted, attitudes on race & immigration showed all age groups becoming more progressive apart from the 18 -29 r old men.

The right in any country always promises to do all of these things and that is why a certain demographic, generally the old, the less educated and the disaffected are drawn to them and cling to them. That is what is happening at the moment

Perhaps Labour shouldn't count their chickens then you are describing a lot of Red Wall seat voters.

I believe they all voted Tory last time and the Red Wall crumbled.

I dont think they will mess things up I think considering the scale of the issues it will be impossible to make any impact on those issues in the time they will be in office. I am cheery like that.
