I've already posted on this but I do think its important to differentiate any feelings we might have about a particular celebrity from the illegality of phone tapping.
I don't particularly like Hugh Grant, for example , but I still don't think anyone has the right to hack his phone.
I don't think it's the same as the "celebrities use the press so they can't complain when the press uses them argument". I think that applies to celebs falling drunkenly out of London night clubs into the cameras of the Paparazzi; What do they expect ? Phone tapping is more like taking photos of people with long lenses ; the subjects believe themselves to be completely private so should not be snapped . This happened to both Fergie and Princess Kate and it's not cricket.
I didn't know about Nigel Havers but we all know about Milly Dowler and the distress that caused.
I wouldn't like anyone listening to my phone except it would serve them right because they .... would.... be.....bored......to.....Death!

Of course Morgan knew what was happening.
The Mirror Group was wrong and perhaps this will bring an end to this kind of activity by the media.

However, it's surprising that views are so polarised on here.

The judge found that the Mirror Group hacked Harry's phone to a modest extent.
That does not mean that Harry's behaviour towards his family is not treacherous.

Both The Mirror Group and Harry are guilty of invasion of privacy. It is wrong and causes a great deal of stress.

I wonder if the Americans hack Harry the Horrible’s phone? Probably wouldn’t bother, too boring. As a point of principle it is good that the Mirror was found guilty, shame that HTH is guilty of invading privacy himself and that it wasn’t someone innocent who brought the case.

Well if everything is kept quiet you would never know what the tabloids get up to . The Royal family has their life under a microscope and it’s sad the repercussions it has on them all . Yet the British public laps up all this salacious gossip at the financial benefit of the publishing dynasties like the Murdochs.

Of course phone hacking is wrong, and I'm glad the Mirror group are being punished. I too believe Piers Morgan had to know it was going on even if he chose "not to". I imagine it may be difficult to prove he knew or authorised it, so I expect he'll get away with it. While it may be a separate issue, I don't understand those who would excuse Harry (who is rightly incensed at his privacy being abused) when he does exactly the same thing for financial gain. Just because he uses books and TV appearances rather than a newspaper, the motives are the same, to make money. In fact Harry's seem to go further, revenge, which is not an attractive trait.

Issue two; Harry has compromised the privacy of his family by writing and speaking about them. He has made allegations against them, knowing they won’t retaliate or sue him. This is morally wrong on every level, but probably not illegal, unless he has not spoken the truth, but it doesn’t make any difference anyway because truth or lie, or just exaggeration, he is secure in the knowledge that they won’t react.

My point exactly. You can disagree all you like with what Harry has done, but that doesn't justify anyone hacking his phone (or anyone's phone, for that matter). They are two separate issues.

Disagreeing with what Harry has done has turned into a national sport.

No, it isn't a sport.
I think many people are seriously disturbed by Harry's posturing and poor behaviour, particularly at a time when family members are seriously ill. His threats of future action as dragon slayer will only mean more press scrutiny, which I think is what he really desires, because there is precious little purpose in his life at present.

Will Harry continually make money from litigation from now on and be on the look out for any chance to do it? There are some people who do this, either out of love of money or paranoia take others to court.
I do wonder when he’ll just enjoy life.
