I feel totally betrayed by all our politicians. To hear that they feel threatened where there is a large muslim population - well who let them in to our county in the first place? I can't imagine going to somewhere like Saudi Arabia & threatening their politicians - I'd be thrown in prison or worse.
It's time we took a long hard look at what's happening in our country & made some hardline changes. Otherwise we'll all be afraid to speak our minds at all.
What is happening in the middle east is horrifying, of course, but we could be next. Wake up Britain ( I won't call it great because it no longer is sad

As far as I remember, there has been one MP killed by an Islamic extremist, one by a neo-Nazi, and several by Irish nationalists. There is also a large amount of abuse and harassment, including threats of rape and murder, aimed predominantly at female MPs. For instance, Diane Abbott, who has suffered hideous online abuse for years, is now too scared to use public transport because of the threats. An old man was prosecuted for threatening to murder Nicola Sturgeon. I believe he said he would decapitate her. Those are two examples from an avalanche of hatred fuelled by misogyny and, in many cases, racism. In many cases, judging by the sexist and racist content, the people behind the threats are white men.

It's hardly a problem confined to Islamic zealots.

Everything crossed that the Israeli Knesset will agree the terms of a ceasefire being negotiated in Paris.

Oh, yes please.... can't cross any more than fingers but am willing them to see sense.

paddyann .IF she wants to convert she should keep her private life PRIVATE .

www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/scotlands-newly-elected-first-minister-performs-prayer-on-first-night-at-bute-house/2858027#:~

Presumably paddyann thinks Humza Yousef should have kept this declaration of his faith and private life private too. Or is it only Jews that need to hide their faith?

paddyann54 Sat 24-Feb-24 17:00:55

She did it in a very tense situation and to publicly say her husband is a proud zionist is shocking while Israel is mudering innocents.
I am not anti semitic I am and have been for a long time anti Israeli government, with good reasons.I march FOR Palestine with many people who are Jews who are also incensed by Israels behaviour

maddyone Sat 24-Feb-24 17:05:32

I’m sure many, if not most Jews want it to end, but I suspect they want the release of the hostages first.

LovelyLady Sat 24-Feb-24 17:20:57

The SNP are justifying fuming. They’re never treated equally. The Speaker was at fault - let’s see how he feels now. He did all this with good intentions but the SNP never get a good deal.

paddyann You said if she wants to convert she should keep it private. You can't back pedal from that comment. It is antisemitic since you obviously have no problem with your First Minister not keeping his (non Jewish) faith private.

maddyone Sat 24-Feb-24 17:28:20

Mmmmm, sounds like double standards to me.

Lilyflower Sat 24-Feb-24 19:14:23

Giving in to Hamas would be like giving in to Putin.

They do do fuming very well though.

No, we should not be ashamed of our faith. She should not hide it.

However, it was the announcement that her husband is a "proud Zionist" that was really uncalled for.

Anniebach Sat 24-Feb-24 19:51:23

Why is proud Zionist uncalled for?

ronib Sat 24-Feb-24 20:11:14

The Jewish Chronicle March 2023
SB - “When it comes to anti Semitism, I have felt for a long time that there’s a double standard. Racism that would be called out if it were directed against any other minority is explained away or ignored when it comes to Jews. The Jewish community is our community…..”
Not forgetting that SB is a Buddhist .

EEJit Sat 24-Feb-24 20:13:47

Why the hell are they bothered about a ceasefire? It has nothing to do with us

It’s wrong to say Zionist but not Muslim

ronib Sat 24-Feb-24 20:26:12

Why? Anniebach

Anniebach Sat 24-Feb-24 20:32:38

ronib sorry, I mean it’s wrong to say Zionist but not Muslim
why?

ronib Sat 24-Feb-24 20:54:00

I am totally confused…. I give up.

Zionism isn't a religion, so I'm not sure how anybody can convert. It's a political ideology which supports Israel as a Jewish state. According to Zionists, Judaism is a nationality as well as a religion.

I assume Suella Braverman actually knows what she's talking about and understands the difference between a Jew and a Zionist.

There's nothing wrong with saying Zionist, if that's what you believe, but comparing an ideology with a religion is like comparing apples and oranges.

I live in a former cotton mill town. We have a large community of people with Pakistani./Bangladeshi heritage, who follow the Muslim faith. A smaller community of people with Indian Hindu background
In answer to who invited then, it was our government in the 50’s and early 60’s. Their skills in the manufacture of cotton were needed. We are fortunate in living side by side. We are a city of sanctuary so have a growing community of African asylum seekers.
I don’t share this negative critical view that I’m losing my identity or my country. Frankly, if we hadn’t colonised India and many parts of Africa, it’s unlikely our country would have become more diverse . Something I don’t see as wrong

I sincerely hope so. Something has to happen soon 😢
