news.sky.com/story/migrants-refused-asylum-in-the-uk-to-be-offered-thousands-of-pounds-to-move-to-rwanda-report-13093684
The government is proposing to offer failed asylum seekers £3000 if they agree to go to Rwanda. I don’t get it, because won’t offering money to go to another country encourage more ineligible people rather than less to come to the UK knowing they will be relocated, with £3k to start a new life, ultimately anywhere they choose?

I don’t think many children arrive via the small boats, although some do of course. When I see film of the boats arriving or being helped by border control, they appear to be full of young men. Few women, and even fewer children.

These boat people are now using their kids as human shields.

Evidence for this statement?

Nicenanny3 Mon 29-Apr-24 11:40:27

Children are being used by migrants as 'human shields' on French beaches to stop police reaching their boats, a Border Force official has claimed.
We've seen them attacked with sticks, metal bars, machetes, using women and children that are there to cross, using them as human shields to prevent law enforcement taking action,' she told GB News. (The Daily Mail today)

That was to LizzyDrip who demanded evidence.

It’s blindingly obvious that people who travel across continents specifically to get to the French coast nearest to the UK are doing so because they wish to come to the UK. If I hear one more person say that they are France’s problem and should be given asylum there I think I’m going to scream - just be glad you can’t hear me.

Ah go on then, have a good old scream🤣

The dinghies can take 50-60 people but as the boats prepare to leave a crowd who have not paid people smugglers storm the boat and jump on making it very overcrowded and dangerous. Last week there were 113 people on one boat!

I am a bit surprised by this. If the smugglers are as vicious as they are claimed to be they surely wouldn't be tolerating non paying passengers on the boats.

Or are we just getting all sorts of mixed messages?

Oreo Mon 29-Apr-24 11:53:20

It’s wrong to say oreo that anyone with a visa has a job and accommodation - many are here on temporary visas and never leave - there is no check on their leaving. Many are here on student or family visas and don’t have jobs, students frequently “disappear”, again no checks by our Home Office. There are far more of these than those in small boats, but this is never tackled.

True.
Immigration should come down heavily on those who outstay a visa, students, fake students and others, but unfortunately they never do.
At least tho, these people do have accommodation and earn money, even if in the black economy.

In the heat of the moment with all the migrants dressed much the same I doubt the traffickers can tell who’s who.

A border security guard spoke about this, this morning.
He said most of them are from sub Sahara and hadn’t paid any traffickers.
As for the traffickers taking control of the situation none of them are in France or Belgium, all communication to migrants is done by phone.
Just incase someone thinks ^well why don’t the powers that be look at the migrants phones, the traffickers use burner phones.

Also the boat wouldn't have sunk if it weren't for migrants forcing their way on to it. In French waters. They then allowed it to continue by the French into UK waters. No arrests of the three Sudanese crooks, piloting the boat, just let them come to the UK, they'll deal with it. 😡

What a thoroughly unpleasant comment!

Thoroughly unpleasant? That term has been in use for decades. 😉

Parts of the world are in a dreadful mess for various reasons. None of us, I'm sure, would want to live in these places and have the utmost sympathy for those who do. But it is not right that people can expect to just turn up in another country and expect to be housed and given a job. If we let in more or less anyone who fancies coming here then put the clock forward. The Britain we know will be gone. In its place will be a country full of different cultures, religions and languages. Some of these people's countries were at war with one another before they came here and these disagreements would be brought to our shores. Yes, we have always received immigrants but not in the numbers that are arriving now. If things go on as they are, one day people here will be facing similar problems as those the immigrants are trying to escape from. As well as that, what about the strain on services that we have all paid for and what about the cost to the environment? It is unsustainable. Nobody seems to think long term. I don't know how to deal with the migrant crisis but the face of Britain is changing and we were not consulted as to whether this was what we wanted. We cannot be the answer to everyone's problems.

Great post Skydancer👏👏 exactly how I feel as do most of my friends. Trouble is some people are too scared to admit it because they wrongly get called racists. It’s nothing to do with race, they could come from the moon but we are still full.

As you say, we have always taken in people from other countries and we also send billions in aid to other countries so we have done more than our share and, again as you say, we cannot be the answer to everyone’s problems.

I go to other parts of the country and it appears that the Britain we know has already gone.

I would like to see a halt brought to anybody coming to our country to live. ….. eg five years …. And when we have sorted out our own problems and looked after our young, the elderly and everyone in between with medical care, housing, employment, schooling etc then we could reconsider and start a very controlled immigration process.

No Petra I’m not calling the border force guard a liar (correct spelling by the way) because I had not seen / heard / read this when I posed the question. I don’t watch GB news or read the Daily Fail Mail.

Urmstongran Mon 29-Apr-24 15:10:25

Some aggressive migrants are using a few women and children as human shields. According to Border Force at Dover in an interview granted to GB Newsthis morning. Abhorrent behaviour. Those poor little mites must be so frightened on the beach at Calais. Police (with guns) in front of them and angry jostling men behind them.

Some migrants are ambushing the ‘paying customers’ to roughshod for places on the rubber boats. That’s how the 7 year old girl died a fortnight ago. She was crushed to death in the melee as too many men pushed their way onto the boat. They didn’t have the necessary money to pay the people traffickers so they took matters into their own hands and forced their way on. Border Force officials said it’s getting very nasty in Calais for their colleagues. They are being attacked with poles, machetes and fireworks are set off. Indeed some of the migrants arriving in Dover have stab wounds.

This has turned toxic very quickly.

not nice to correct spelling LizzieDrip. You should know better.

Are you expecting a medal because you don’t read or watch certain news channels or papers? 🤣

I told you the other day I get my info from a Border Force senior official.

Casdon Mon 29-Apr-24 16:14:27

Surely Border Force officials are required to sign the Official Secrets Act, and it would be extremely unprofessional, if not a dismissible offence, for them to gossip about what they see at work?

maddyone Mon 29-Apr-24 16:16:27

I really dislike the superiority some people display because they don’t watch certain news channels or read certain newspapers. It’s really unpleasant and it doesn’t actually make them superior at all, even though they think it does.

No they don’t, not any longer, According to Gov.UK.

I can’t see any reason why the sort of information being discussed on this thread should be required to be an official secret. Nor do I think that the news channel mentioned, or the newspaper mentioned, or any other news outlet, would be likely to be publishing this information if it was an official secret.

Do you seriously think this information should be an official secret?

Well they were on GBNews this morning Casdon showing us one of the rubber boats. Absolutely shocking disregard for life. One of the outboard motors had a huge 3-0 pasted on it. The Border Force man said this was to imply that the horsepower (or whatever measurement it was termed) was ‘30’ when actually is was only between 10 and 15. Insufficient and dangerous for all migrants on board apparently.

These human traffickers are callous.

I'm not sure that they are required to actually sign the Official Secrets Act.

Years ago it was decided that there was no requirement to sign it; however, it is implicit in the contract of service and employees are bound by it.
