news.sky.com/story/migrants-refused-asylum-in-the-uk-to-be-offered-thousands-of-pounds-to-move-to-rwanda-report-13093684
The government is proposing to offer failed asylum seekers £3000 if they agree to go to Rwanda. I don’t get it, because won’t offering money to go to another country encourage more ineligible people rather than less to come to the UK knowing they will be relocated, with £3k to start a new life, ultimately anywhere they choose?

I seem to recall Father Ted being a comedy. I doubt my friends who have been rounded up and put in a Home Office van today are laughing.

Still I suppose it lowers the numbers.
No matter that they are human beings , the Rwanda is not paradise and they are terrified and suicidal.

Perhaps you should tell your other friends to broadcast on YouTube, X etc about what's happening here then to their friends in France, tell them to save their money.

Oreo Sun 28-Apr-24 16:15:39

I know it’s been said many times but the people risking their lives could apply for asylum in France.Since they’re already there.
I don’t believe that all that many have family here but rather that they think the UK is a land of milk and honey.
As to numbers and statistics, no stats alter the fact that hard pressed Councils have to find beds food and accommodation for thousand upon thousand of migrants. They have no money or often passports or any papers to show where they come from.
Anyone who comes here on a visa has money and a job to go to and accommodation. We need controlled immigration here but not uninvited economic migrants.

Casdon Sun 28-Apr-24 19:01:54

It’s blindingly obvious that people who travel across continents specifically to get to the French coast nearest to the UK are doing so because they wish to come to the UK. If I hear one more person say that they are France’s problem and should be given asylum there I think I’m going to scream - just be glad you can’t hear me.

Allsorts Sun 28-Apr-24 19:13:59

Agree Casdom, the government know this, so you have to wonder at their motives.

Greta Sun 28-Apr-24 19:19:24

I agree, Casdon, I don't know how often this has been said " they should stay in France/they should stay in the first safe country". Why not just say 'we don't want them. Let others deal with them." What makes people feel we are special?

There are countries where lots of us would like to live but we don’t meet their requirements. Tough!

Often English is their main second language?

Greta Sun 28-Apr-24 20:24:08

Yes, Wyllow3, those who want to come to the UK often do speak a bit of English. What I was wondering was what makes some Brits feel the UK is special and immigrants should go elsewhere.

We don't want them.

Nicenanny3 Sun 28-Apr-24 20:59:49

Even Ireland an EU country doesn't want them.

zakouma66 Sun 28-Apr-24 21:17:12

I am reporting your posts as a hate crime.

LizzieDrip Sun 28-Apr-24 21:30:31

Nicenanny what is it about asylum seekers that makes you appear to hate them so much?

maddyone Sun 28-Apr-24 23:27:24

zakouma66

Sick to my stomach reading this. What on earth do you think these updates on the number of people arriving does?

People

I have reported it, its a disgrace.

You may feel sick reading this but I think you’re being self righteous!

Callistemon21 Sun 28-Apr-24 23:38:40

Some views might seem offensive to you zakouma, and they are certainly not ones I agree with either, but they probably do not come under the category of hate crime against a person.

Are you reporting the posts to the police as a crime?

Or do you mean you are reporting them to GNHQ because you think they should be deleted?

It's not clear.

vegansrock Mon 29-Apr-24 07:10:04

It’s wrong to say oreo that anyone with a visa has a job and accommodation - many are here on temporary visas and never leave - there is no check on their leaving. Many are here on student or family visas and don’t have jobs, students frequently “disappear”, again no checks by our Home Office. There are far more of these than those in small boats, but this is never tackled.

Coronation Mon 29-Apr-24 07:29:10

An unpopular solution may be to insist on ID cards to be carried at all times. This would state how long there allowed to stay, if legal here etc.

But many people wouldn't be happy paying for ID cards, and do we have the police /border resources to carry out checks?

I do think it's easy to disappear into the country and this may be a factor in people wanting to come here.

Err for telling the truth, the whole point of the Rwanda scheme is to try and stop the boats because we don't want them here.

Nicenanny what is it about asylum seekers that makes you appear to hate them so much?

You are the one using the word hate I've never said that I hate them.

fancythat Mon 29-Apr-24 08:00:05

I suspect zakouma66 has hate herself.

It has taken me a long time to realise, that those who come out with that type of thing, they do in part, because they themselves have it.

Vintagewhine Mon 29-Apr-24 08:07:28

The UK doesn't have an immigration system that works. If we did we wouldn't have to make stupid laws to try to make illegal actions by the state, legal. Most of those who arrive on small boats are genuine asylum seekers and compared to most countries we take few. We just are hopeless at dealing with them and this government has made them scape goats for their own inadequacy.

LizzieDrip Mon 29-Apr-24 09:02:43

Nicenanny if you take the time to read my post correctly, I said you appear to hate asylum seekers. This appearance comes through in the language you use when referring to them. I can only form an opinion about your views through the language you use on this thread.

However, let’s perhaps agree that you dislike them. I ask the question again ‘what is about asylum seekers that makes you dislike them so much’? I have asked this question several times on this thread but received no response to it.

If I’m wrong, and you don’t dislike them at all, please enlighten me. I am genuinely interested to understand the motivation for your viewpoint.

Greta Mon 29-Apr-24 09:07:18

Well said, Vintagewhine, when it comes to controlling immigration we have shown incompetence. Every time the ID question is discussed we are up in arms - no! It would restrict our freedom apparently. There is irony here, isn' t there?

Of course there are enough border force to check travellers, every time I travel into or out of the UK my passport is checked. There might be a few illegals evading checks hiding in lorries, and a few arriving on a beach undetected, when they are eventually found they all try to claim asylum anyway.

I’m sure more than half migrants have been Persecuted in their own country, it’s not hard to upset the government in at least half the countries in the world, wrong religion, wrong tribe and most can speak English as a second language, of course they want to come here, many have relatives here as well.

Primrose53 Mon 29-Apr-24 09:50:14

I think we need a new thread actually.

These boat people are now using their kids as human shields.

The dinghies can take 50-60 people but as the boats prepare to leave a crowd who have not paid people smugglers storm the boat and jump on making it very overcrowded and dangerous. Last week there were 113 people on one boat!

Better weather today so no doubt hundreds more freeloaders will arrive today.

foxie48 Mon 29-Apr-24 11:12:47

"These boat people are now using their kids as human shields. "

What a thoroughly unpleasant comment!
