Does Israel want full scale war in the Middle East?
(627 Posts)I heaved a sigh of relief that most of Iran's drones and missiles had been brought down without reaching Israel and it seems little damage has been done, but it seems that is not the end of it. So, what do you think is going on? Does Israel need to have a full scale war with Iran and what do you think it would achieve or is this really about keeping Netanyahu's right wing govt on side?
Of course the one person who is benefiting from all this is Putin, financially- oil.
Unfortunately the one victim in Iran’s attack was a little seven year old girl who ironically is Muslim. She and her family are Israeli citizens and she is being treated in an Israeli hospital. She is seriously injured and has had two surgeries.

Without wishing to dwell on past threads it was pointed several times months ago where the majority, if not all, of Glorianny’s information is sourced.
Anti western pro Middle Eastern sites. Hamas aren’t terrorists, they’re a legitimate government and no doubt Iran are misunderstood teddy bears with a gold standard human rights record.
It would be laughable if it wasn’t so serious.
As for WW and her few drones and missiles? Utter nonsense. If it wasn’t for the Iron Dome and help from other countries those ‘few’ drones and missiles would have caused the death of thousands.
Sorry the. history is there
No persecution in Spain until the Christian take over of Philip and Isabella, when Jews who had lived there for centuries were suddenly forced to flee, convert or die. Have u never heard of the Spanish Inquisition (One of the--- oh maybe not).
In 1943 a report found the total population of Palestine to be 1,764,520: there were 1,061,270 Muslims, 553,600 Jews, 135,550 Christians and 14,100 classified as "others" (typically Druze). The Jewish population was growing because of immigration in 1930s. All lve peacefully.
I also understand the history of Iran which is a beautiful country with lovely people who have suffered dreadfully from US interference leading to a rise in fundamentalism. Will there be an Israeli-Iran war? I don't know. But if there is Israel should take care. In the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s Iran suffered terrible casualties, but Iraq in spite of support from the US and several other countries, in spite of using chemical weapons was unable to totally destroy Iran.
I don't think Iran is the axis of evil I think it's a country which turned to religious fundamentalism partly because of the US interference.
Glorianny if you do not think Iran is the axis of evil I think you are reading/watching totally different media sources.
Do you know how many young Iranian women have been blinded, tortured, murdered and imprisoned by the Muslim Fundamental Government, how many gay men have been literally thrown off buildings to their death…
The US has interfered in too many countries according to current governments but independence from US or Western influence hasn’t benefited the population as a whole at all, including Iranians. Practically all have become dictatorships ruled by despotic regimes of one sort or another and now exploited by China who has no conscience. Handing over cash with no questions asked, much of which ends up in Swiss bank accounts rather than benefiting the people.
Like religions since time began it’s about controlling the population not benefiting them, that is no more true than Iran
I just wish people would distinguish between extreme fundamentalist Muslims and the vast majority of Muslims who are not. The Taliban, Hamas, ISIS etc do not follow the teaching of the Quran or represent most Muslims any more than the Catholic nuns in the Magdalene laundries or the very many priests who were paedophiles represent the Catholic church. Please don't tell me that neither the nuns nor the priests committed the atrocious acts committed by Hamas on 7/10, of course I know that! What has been represented by some posters is a deep hatred of Islam which I find very sad as it is deep hatred on both sides that drives these conflicts. I certainly don't judge Judaism by the actions of extreme right wing Zionists on the West Bank as I know they do not represent the views of most Jews, neither should anyone make sweeping and largely incorrect statements about Islam when they are actually talking about extremist terrorist/fundamentalist groups.
foxie48 a deep hatred of Islam not as far as I am concerned.
My nearest neighbours are strict Muslims, they are also very dear friends. Our children grew up together, play dates etc right up to attending each other’s weddings.
The Fundamentalists running some Muslim countries are in my opinion authoritarian, misogynistic and in many cases evil. They have no thought other than to rule by fear and violence.
Incidentally, it's not illegal to be a non-Muslim in Iran. The Iranian constitution states that Zoroastrians, Jews, and Christians (excluding converts from Islam) are recognized religious minorities permitted to worship and form religious societies “within the limits of the law.” They have reserved seats in parliament. Statistics vary, but there are a few thousand Jews living in Iran.
Non-Muslims are discriminated against, but I'd rather be a non-Muslim than a Muslim in Iran because non-Muslims aren't expected to have the same standards and can't be punished by Muslim laws.
While the Iranian government is horrendous, I just like to get facts correct.
growstuff I think what the Government propaganda machine puts out and the realities of every day life in Iran for Muslims or others are not the same.

This. 👏👏
Are we ignoring other countries in this argument? Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan for example? I’m not sure Iran has entirely cornered the market on women’s suppression.

I 100% include Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia.
Apologies, it is not illegal to be a religioun other than Muslim in Iran, but Muslims in Iran are forbidden from converting to any other religion, so growstuff is correct.
However we should not think that other religions enjoy the freedom to worship as they wish in Iran. Christians are often persecuted in Iran by surveillance, arrests, and the imprisonment of church leaders and those who worship in their own homes.

This.
I have a son who is gay. In Iran (and other countries) he’d probably be murdered.
I have nothing good to say about a regime that would murder my adult child!
I also find the behaviour of some fundamentalist Islamic states abhorrent, I find the actions of Hamas on 7/10 abhorrent. My main and perhaps only difference from some posters is that I don't think every Palestinian is a member or supporter of Hamas and therefore deserves to be slaughtered or starved or are an acceptable as collateral. I also believe that many Muslims find Hamas abhorrent. Actually, I don't think you believe that either but I think some people do and there have been some posts which IMO are clearly or bordering on being Islamophobic.

I'm not disputing that. All I was pointing out was that it's not illegal to be non-Muslim in Iran.
It’s not about individual people is it? I know Muslim people and I know Jewish people who I really care about. It’s about hating regimes and hating terrorism. Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iran, and others too many to mention, are countries in which I would never set foot because to be honest, I despise them. I despise their inequalities, their subjugation of women, their lack of tolerance. I don’t care if those countries are beautiful because there are plenty of other beautiful countries to visit. Their culture interests me because I’m interested in other cultures, but not interested enough to visit.
As long as Iran funds terrorism I fear we will not have any real peace.
Peace is what I believe we all wish for.

Likewise I have seen multiple posts on GN which in my view are antisemitic, some wrapped up (disguised) as anti-Zionism
Definitely GrannyGravy
Some posts have been deleted for antisemitism.

Yes.
I personally don't report posts but if posts are correctly identified as being anti semitic or Islamophobic and they are reported I have no problem in them being removed.
